I would give this winery a zero if it were an available choice. The last two times we have visited we were curtly greeted by the same gentleman as he was unloading bags. He didn't look up at us and was rude when we asked questions. We asked if he had the almond prosecco and he said yes, a limited amount. We asked if we could buy two bottles and very rudely said NO! While they are still in the last stages of remodeling, the larger, more modern tasting room is now combined with the flower farm's plant selection. Customer experience. I went in and they had a big line of people. Said they cannot take time to fill my order and to come back later. So I did. I was the only one on there when I went in and wanted my order filled. No one at the counter. I yelled 3 times 'Hello' no one responded. I yelled louder and someone FINALLY came out. She was able to fill my order (wine club) and the suddenly got busy. I was also picking up my bf's order. My partner and I came in for a tasting since we were staying at the B&B next door. A lovely older gentleman poured for us and he was a lot of fun. He let us taste some hot pepper bacon jam too and omg we had to buy one of course! Tastings are actually complementary but there are special $10 flights you can try. We decided to try the sparkling flight. At the end of our tasting, we bought a bottle of the Big Hat (zin and petite sirah blend), Rosé, and Peach Mango Sparkling wine. I used to love Deaver. Whenever I introduced friends to the Plymouth wineries, Deaver was on the list. The last few times I've been there has been a completely different experience. The younger staff is rude and dismissive, where the former servers were welcoming, accommodating, and kind. Both of the last two times (one the tasting room was busy and the last time there was only one other couple) it was clear that others in the room were treated with more attention and congeniality then me and my guests. Last time we were there the lady kept pointing to her watch and making comments about how quickly they were closing, while the other group was in a nice and leisurely conversation and didn't appear rushed at all. Anyway, I have many good memories of the old Deaver. New Deaver stinks. read more

This place is Port heaven. Found this little gem on the recommendation from a nearby winery. I was in search of some port style wines and I was directed to Deaver Driving in it looked more like a Midwest farm- large old trees, a barn and a couple of ponds. Also - by the way- nice restrooms!!! Those can be hard to find while wine tasting. They had the largest selection of ports in the area, eleven. In fact, I'm not sure I've seen a selection that size even in Napa. The staff explained the different varietals used and the resulting flavors. Three types had already sold out. The tasting room is a little bit of a throwback to the 80s. Plenty of merchandise and there is one long tasting bar on the right side of the building. We were not too fond of the wines we tasted, many of them seem like they had gotten overheated and were pruny and brown. read more

This is hand down our favorite wine. We bought so many cases from them for our wedding and are still members because they are consistent and so friendly. A small tasting room but it has so many different wines, as well as small gift and the extra food items to purchase are amazing. Try the peach bourbon sauce or miso soy ginger dressing! If you like ports, this is the place to go especially for those. Mike and Brad are amazing, super nice and very knowledgeable. And if you don't want the wine knowledge, they are great to hang out with. The ten zen and all the ports are amazing wines. I cannot recommend this winery enough! I used to love Deaver. The wine servers were so very friendly, attentive, and personable. Deaver was always a highlight of my weekend wine tasting trips to Plymouth. In fact, it was always on my list of places to visit when sharing wine country with friends who hadn't been there. Unfortunately my last two visits have been very disappointing. It seems that the original staff is no longer working there and the new staff is very cool and aloof. Last weekend there were only three parties in the tasting room and a handful of parties in the tent. The server who "helped" us behaved as though the place was packed (it wasn't) and she clearly played favorites with the larger parties. I was prepared to purchase several bottles but midway through our tasting my friend and I were abandoned. This was the first time I ever walked out without my favorite job of wine. Deaver has a good lineup of wine varietals to offer. Sometimes, when out tasting, it can be a struggle to pick just the wines that you know you'd be able to distinguish from others, hands down. One real standout (IMHO) is their sauvignon blanc. I am partial to a good, crisp sauv blanc with a nice, refreshing finish. In fact, I am partial to New Zealand white wines (Nobilo, Cupcake) for this reason. Deaver's sauvignon blanc is one of the best I've had in the Amador/Eldorado region. I would recommend Deaver for the grounds. If your are planning a picnic this may be the ideal location. It has a little lake with picnic tables and a lush lawn. As far as the wine, it would be a great place for people who are just getting interested in drinking wine. They offer a lot of wine on the sweet side, that a lot of wine beginners enjoy. In addition to that the wine is not to pricey at around $15 a bottle. We stopped here as part of the Sippin on Steiner last weekend. We hadn't been here in quite a while and thought we'd try it again. Pretty busy due to the event. They had tents outside to provide some pairings of snacks and wine. More tasting was done inside. Very friendly atmosphere and some helpful staff. We wound up buying a bottle of the Angelica Port. Visited this winery today and couldn't recommend it more. Cute family owned place with many tables where you can bring your own food and have a picnic. I was looking for sweet sparkling wines and I found 4 here, Pomegranate, Peach, Raspberry and Almond. All were very good but Peach was my favorite! Nice and light and refreshing-would be great on a warm summer day!! They also had some very good Zinfandel's and the Ports were awesome too (along with the chocolate). I really like port and they have an AWESOME selection. Try the port tasting because there are so many to choose from. We also really liked the Almond wine - we got a box and bring it with us when we go to friends' houses - it's very unique and always popular. The tasting room is relatively small but the grounds are very clean and pretty with a nice lake. The staff in the stating room is very kind and accommodating as well. The selection is a bit limited outside of the sweet stuff but if you're going wine tasting in Amador you should really put this place on your list. I can not say enough about my visit to Deaver. 1st off, the property is beautiful. There is a lovely feel about it. There are picnic tables, there is food being cooked for the visitors to pair with their wines. I went there on a 3rd date. I could not have asked for a better visit. The staff lead by the sweetest person, Nicole, were impecable. Nicole was so sweet and she knew the rich history of the winery and the wines. She poured each wine and told me about he grapes and the wine maker. Every taste was better than the last. I ended up buying a few zinfandels and a sparkling wine. The Ports are out of this world. You will not be dissappointed. They even had chocolates. Their tasting room has such a great little shopping area for gifts. Jewelry, wine glasses and "to go" wine cups with really cute sayings on them. I'm going back. Soon I hope. Make your plans to spend the day here. There is also a B&B on the property. We came in for wine tasting on February 12th and it was a disaster in the tasting room. There was a very loud staff member talking way too loud and too much. There was a limo group there and they would not leave. Well who would leave when loud mouth kept pouring them free wine and then free port. Other customers could not be serviced. The line at the only cash register went 20 people deep. We finally left. Our ears were shot and ringing from the loudness. Please fix your tasting room hostess and train her better. She claims to be a manager also. read more

Came here for a day of wine tasting with friends on a Saturday. Called about 20 minutes prior to arriving and they were able to accommodate our group of 12 by setting up a table outside of the tasting room for our large group. The staff was very friendly. While we tasted outside, a lady was inside making calls to other wineries to see if they could accommodate our group for that day. The wine tasting was $5/person (but the $5 goes towards a bottle of wine if you choose to buy one). We tasted between 6-8 different wines and they were all pretty good. Deaver Vineyards is in close proximity to other wineries. There is a nice big grassy area outside and the tasting room overlooks a pond. There are a lot of tables outside, perfect place to bring a picnic lunch. read more

I went to Deaver this past weekend with a group, with the intention of tasting and selecting wines to be served at a wedding. The gentleman pouring outside this particular day had a wonderful personality and my review is in no way a reflection on him. He, along with the lovely view of the pond, were the only two positives to our visit. We had booked an appointment for our large group and paid in advance the $5 tasting fee for each of us. Most wineries in Amador do not charge a tasting fee, but we don't mind paying it, however, we do not appreciate paying extra tasting fees for individuals who did not end up attending the tasting with us. We had over paid two tasting fees ($10), which the extremely unpleasant and unhappy woman working the register refused to refund to us. She also failed to apply it to our wines we purchased at their winery, which I find distasteful. If they didn't want to credit back our fee we paid in advance, they could have at least credited it toward our wine purchases. This shows a lack of professionalism on their part. I'm disappointed. Also, the wines were not up to the same standards as some of the other Amador wineries. They are not worth paying a tasting fee for in the future. If you are looking for good Amador wines and for a pleasant experience I recommend you check out Cooper, 9 Gables, TKC, Youngs, Sera Fina, Amador Cellars, Drytown Cellars, Sobon Estate... etc.. I have had a wonderful time at all of them, among others! You lost what could have been a long term client, Deaver, by the unfortunately poor treatment of my friend and the bride, Hannah, by your cashier, and we will NOT be serving your wines at her wedding in Amador in July. I have to add to this... They had promised to waive/reimburse the $5 tasting fee we each paid if wine was purchased. Several girls in our group bought wine and were NOT reimbursed their tasting fee, meaning we were ripped off, in addition to the overpayment of tasting fees not used. read more

I love this winery! I first went here on my Bachelorette party and we've loved coming back ever since. It is such a pretty setting with a lot of grass area and the pond in the back. The customer service has always been on point, the wine is delicious (they have the best selection of dessert wines) and we love the gift shop. We also get a chuckle out of the funny sayings. This is our third year visiting the Amador County wineries so we have quite a few under our belts and have yet to be disappointed. This trip we visited Deaver, Wilderotter, Runquist, and Iron Hub. As we were coming from South Lake Tahoe, we picked up sandwiches at the market in Plymouth and enjoyed them near the pond at Deaver. Our hostess was Brittany. We bought a Sauvignon Blanc for lunch ($17) and a Petite Sarah ($28) for the wine rack. Very enjoyable! read more

This is a must "go to" when tasting wines in Amador County. The grounds are beautiful and we always pack a picnic so we can have lunch by their lake. They have picnic tables available, so all you need to do is buy a bottle of their wine to compliment your meal. We have had great tastings every time we've visited. They don't charge for their tastings and the staff has been very friendly. They get busy in the afternoons so make this one of your first stops. Their ports are especially good. LOVE THEIR ZINFANDEL... We love this vineyard, the grounds and the staff. It has a great tasting room, a fun staff and great wines. I am addicted to their Ports, particularly the Black & Orange Muscats. My husband loves their table wine and their Zin's. We take a trip on those days when you just want to do something local, and when we do, we pack our picnic basket and enjoy a bottle of their finest by the lake. They really know how to do it.... and so do we.... :) So, why only 4 stars??? Deaver used to be a great place to visit for Ports in the Plymouth area but unfortunately I visited there this past weekend and the smell entering the tasting room was so bad that we had to walk out and chose not to do any tasting. As soon as you entered it smelled like a bad public bathroom and there may be a sewage problem. It is unfortunate and will not be returning. read more
