So excited to visit this new Maddie Lu store in Blaine. Finally took the time to visit after seeing…read morea yard staked sign by the NSC fields....I made a U-turn!! The vibe is similar to the OG bakery in Coon Rapids. Very clean, simply decor that makes you feel welcome. We caught the place during a quiet lull so we have fast customer service. I picked out a 5- piece box of macarons. You pick the flavors to fill the box. Plenty of options to choose from. I loved the color coordination on the display case. I also picked out an oreo cupcake and oatmeal cheesecake cup. I haven't met a dessert by Maddie Lu that I haven't liked. Can't wait to try the macarons! Happy to have you in the area.

You can also buy the macarons individually for $2.50 or 10 macarons for $24. They also have cupcakes too. They can also be found on DoorDash, but you can't select your flavors, though I suppose you could put it in the special instruction, so I decided to just stop by the store. When I first arrived, I was greeted and serviced immediately. The staff member was patient as I took a moment to decide which flavors. I also noticed they have some unique design macarons that look like a shark but in a vanilla flavor. The store is clean and has simple decor. It looks like they have a backdrop for a photo op. I felt very welcome in the store. I used to do subscription macarons, but it became pricey. I much prefer Macarons by Maddie Lu due to the flavor options, being able to obtain them locally, and I can choose the amount of macarons to have. They are very delicious, smell good, and have a nice crunch when you bite them. The raspberry cheesecake cookie was soft even after refrigeration for a few hours - I split and shared the cookie with my husband and it cut easily even after being in the fridge.

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!

Cupcake is located in a large plaza. You can't miss the signage of a huge cupcake in blue and pink. I parked in one of the curbside pickup spots. I was picking up a takeout order and felt that it was fine. While waiting for a nice woman to fetch my order, I was looking at the desserts. This place has ice cream, macarons, and lots of baked goods. The chocolate croissant caught my attention. I knew that I needed to get one. When the woman returned with my Mason Jar Kitchen order, I asked if I could get the chocolate croissant. Yes! She got me one and placed it in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I also managed to include a tip. It was straightforward. I thanked the woman and headed back to the hotel to have lunch. I had the chocolate croissant as an afternoon snack. The croissant was okay. It was buttery, but it wasn't as flaky has I had hoped. It was more dense like a paperweight. I wanted flaky and airy. The chocolate was yummy. I prefer dark chocolate and loved it. I feel the need to go back and consume more items. The cakes and cheesecakes looked yummy. I was too early to take advantage of 50% off all pastries after 3 pm. I need to come back after this time and see if I can find a pastry that wows me. (459)

The frosting was a very silky buttercream frosting the best thing about it, the cake was dried out, very dissatisfied and disappointing. They do sell Sebastian Joes ice cream however, perhaps to draw people in to get them to buy their cupcakes.
