We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 6:15pm) and got lucky calling for reservations the day of. Highly recommend making reservations as we saw the staff reject multiple walk-ins. The service was respectable but sadly, there's no tap water available. The menu consists of starters, fish, meat and a "tourist menu" (aka. three course set menu). - Gueuze (€4,00) - a quaffable, enjoyable lambic beer. Got a hint of a fruity note (apparently grapefruit). - Brugs tarwe (wheat beer) (€4,00) - Flemish beef stew (€18,50) - our buddy enjoyed this dish. - 3x Tourist menu (€18,50) - this is the best bang for your buck as you get a soup of the day (tomato), meat with fries and salad (option of steak, half a chicken, pork chop or salmon) and dessert (vanilla ice cream, sorbet (ask if you're lactose intolerant) or profiteroles). We went with the steak, pork chop and salmon. Oddly, they didn't ask for our steak preference. It was cooked medium and was slightly overcooked. Pork chop was worse; dry and bland. Our friend liked her salmon. Fries were standard fare. Salad was overdressed and you barely get a handful. The best thing was the tomato soup which had good depth and came with bread. The vanilla ice cream wasn't memorable but the profiteroles with chocolate sauce were better. Nothing that will blow you away but okay. One of the cheaper table d'hotes we found but the food was hit and miss. Would I come back? I don't think so.

There are not so many great options for vegetarians and the gluten-free tribe, but I'm looking at menus and trying things out one by one. Soupaway is magnificent. You stand in line with an orderly swarm of students in a long, narrow space. Don't walk away. The line moves fast. These are professionals. There are crates of fresh vegetables on the floor by the kitchen. You can see the soupy goodness simmering in the kitchen. I couldn't smell anything today, but if I didn't have a cold, I imagine it's pretty good. There were maybe 10 soups to choose from. They ranged from simple vegetable ones to Super complex curry ones. Each soup is in a column of price points. You can eat there or takeaway. There are options without gluten ingredients. Just ask. If you don't speak Flemisch or Nederlands. No worries. English seemed to work. I chose a simple mushroom soup. It was the single best soup I have ever had in my life. I have had and made some amazing soups, but this one beat out all the rest. I am troubled about going anywhere else for lunch. Why are you still reading this?? Go-go-go!!

I finally timed it one of the days to make it for lunch. A few notes: -There's always a line because it's very popular. -They have the soups listed in front of the store and at the counter. -You can choose sizes of small, large, XL. -You can eat in or do take away. -Your order comes with a small baguette. -When you're done eating, you need to bring your tray up to the kitchen. Food: There were so many delicious choices to choose from that I decided to get two small bowls - tomato and courgette. The people around me thought I was crazy eating two soups but I didn't care because they were both absolutely delicious! Price: 8€ for the two small bowls of soup. Service: It's the one guy at the counter and he's very friendly. Ambiance: Super casual Would I go back? Most definitely!

My beautiful Bride was extra excited because of this sign (in the pic I posted) at the entrance. "Food is Medicine", has been a mantra of hers for the last few years. This place has such a cool and unique look inside and just feels good to be in. The people working there were very kind and super helpful, and everything we tried was delicious. If you're in Ghent, take a break from the fries and stop here!

I tried to bring my parents here for lunch however as soon as we walked through the door, the staff behind the counter didn't waste a moment of our time and informed us that there were no tables. We were disappointed but got around to doing some other shit and then by the time we were finished, figured we could go back to see if things had opened up. Fortunately, they had and we were able to snag a table easily. By this time, it was dangerously close to dinnertime and in the interest of having enough gastric space for dinner, we were light with this "snack". Both I and one of my dining companions ordered one of their soups. I don't recall much of the specifics other than the fact that it was green and delicious. Two of my other dining companions ordered the "veggie balls" which I had a chance to try, they were quite good. The veggie sushi was also ordered and received positive reviews. The inside/entrance area is really cool and they have a really impressive menu with tons of stuff. I saw some spreads/hummuses that I would have wanted to try if it weren't for the gastric space issue. I can see why it's hard to get a table!
