It's the most classic Dutch sandwich bar I have found in town, and almost everything is homemade. I think this is my favorite classic Dutch "fast food" restaurant in Amsterdam, mainly because my mother grew up in Holland and she always used to talk about eating steak tartare broodje with hard boiled egg, onion and mayonnaise in the 1950s. Their homemade steak tartare broodje is outstanding. The homemade Dutch pea soup is only available during cold months and it's also fabulous. In summer they have a mushroom soup, but I haven't tried it yet. If you wanna be really Dutch, order a glass of buttermilk with your broodjie. They also have regular milk and lots of soft drinks. It's just classic and delcious traditional Dutch food; really good and so fresh and you can watch it being made. Everyone that works here is also so nice. Try the kipsaté croquette which tastes like a Thai saté stick. Don't forget the yellow mustard. The server may tell you it makes it taste even better. So fun to sit at the bar counter inside, and they do have a few tables outside for sunny days. I love the decor, the funny expressions about croquettes on the tiles, and the super 1950s black-and-white photos from the restaurant on the walls. This is such a wonderful place and every time I come to Amsterdam I make a pilgrimage here. It's also on a really nice and slightly diagonal street, right in the city center, that still has its old charm. They have the full menu and also a small "classics" menu; one thing I've never tried, but would like to next time, is the curry chicken salad.

They specialize in sandwiches, salads and steaks, the triple threat combination ranks number one in my book in Amsterdam. I started with the Hummus, smoked salmon with horseradish sauce and caprese, mozzerella with pesto. All incredibly fresh, delicious, well presented and served quickly. The portions were big enough that I had to take home the rest in a doggie bag. The main course was the ribeye steak with salad/artichoke hearts, beans....so yummy and filling. The price was only 16 euros for the steak which would easily cost over 25 in other restaurants. I appreciated how large and healthy the side salad was as well. Overall, I recommend this restaurant as the best choice for steaks, salads and sandwiches in Amsterdam.

Nothing was overly flavorful, so I really tasted each and every ingredient. The matcha latte was also nice, with a distinct matcha flavor that you hope for whenever you get a matcha drink. Chez Lorraine is a wonderful neighborhood cafe with a simple French menu for breakfast and lunch. Despite how small the space is, it is very inviting.
