Was at the UTC mall for lunch and stopped by De Nunno with my buddy for a quick bite to eat. Ended up choosing the spicy arrabbiata sauce with fusilli pasta and chicken for protein. The food was ready in about five minutes and was absolutely delicious for a fast food Italian spot. The service size was generous and the pasta was cooked al dente and steaming hot. Food- We ordered the Cacio E Pepe with fettuccine noodles. Pasta was insane. I can't believe this was made in a food court. It was so good, the noodles were a perfect soft al dente, and the portion size for the price was reasonable. I would suggest adding freshly grated Parmesan to the pasta for a better flavor, and maybe more pepper :) Service- We ordered online, and it wasn't ready by the time we picked up our order which was fine. You can tell that the pasta is not of the dried variety. It had a nice, chewy texture. However, my carbonara with spaghetti was very salty due to the guanciale. I would try a different sauce next time. The tiramisu wasn't too sweet and had a soft texture which I liked. I've seen enough Top Chef to know that pasta is flour, egg, and water so I'm not sure why it's always so expensive. I love Italian food and I can be very picky with my stars for this type of cuisine but De Nunno easily gets 5 stars from me! I've eaten here multiple times at UTC and I've never been disappointed. My go to is Pesto because it is my favorite Italian pasta flavor. I also always somehow like to gauge an Italian restaurant by their pesto! I love De Nunno's pesto it has depth of flavor, not too salty, but still flavorful. The creamy texture is just right and with a dash of Parmesan I can eat the entire big bowl! I personally like to get fusili because I feel it holds the pasta sauce well. Today I was very pleased to see a kids menu with more affordable prices! We got the Parmesan and butter flavor for our almost 2 year old son and he loved it! And although they say it is for simple palates the butter taste is definitely multi dimensional. My husband and I ended up eating a lot of the pasta too and took home the rest and will happily feed the leftovers to our son. The workers there were very nice, I asked for water and they automatically charged me for bottled water rather than a free cup of tap water but they are one of the more fancy shops in the food court. The cashier even hand delivered the bowls to me to our table. I'll be back De Nunno! A little pricey but worth it! If you love Italian give this place a chance you won't be disappointed. read more

Don't be dissuaded by the fact that it's in a mall food court: De Nunno is legit. Their pasta is honestly some of the tastiest I've had in SD, including upscale spots in Little Italy and La Jolla. The first time I came I had the Gorgonzola, pear, and walnut gnocchi, which was immediately seared into my culinary memory to become one of the dishes that I dream about. It was HEAVENLY. The second time, I had the salmon with vodka sauce over shells, which was tasty, rich, and filling. The shells themselves were perfect, with an ideal texture that comes from being homemade and cooked al dente. The service was fast too, with an iPad ordering system and fresh pasta cooked to order. It'll cost you about $15-20 to eat here, which is on par with the other options in the UTC food court at this point (thanks, inflation). But the taste and quality are superior! Definitely check it out if you need to carbo load during a big day of shopping, or are stopping by for a quick workday lunch. read more

I left with two bowls of pasta and four adorable chocolate truffles in my pocket. There are plenty of vegetarian options and overall is a cute budget date choice. Conchiglie Amatriciana w/ Burrata (4.25/5): The tomato sauce was super fresh and the sweetness of the tomato was very prominent. The noodles themselves were a super fun texture and had all sorts of fun crevices to hold the sauce and bits of salty, savory guanciale. I personally would recommend the burrata to add some creaminess without being super heavy, but I'm also a sucker for cheese. Fettuccine Creamy Mushroom & Sausage (3.5/5): The mushroom sauce was an awesome balance of creaminess and earthiness, but the homemade Italian sausage was oddly bland. My sister and I questioned whether this spot would be good as it is an Italian food spot in the middle of a mall food court. I did a cursory glance on Yelp, and from the high-ish reviews we decided to share the Creamy Mushroom and Sausage. The girl who gave me my food was kind enough to give me an extra bowl so I could share with my sister. I was excited to try out the food because it was made to order, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, it was lacking in flavor, it doesn't seem like the sausage or the mushrooms were seasoned at all and I think because mushrooms can sometimes exude a lot moisture, it ended up making the overall dish plain. Long story short, my sister ended up taking it home and adding more seasonings and veggies to improve it. I gave this place 2 stars because the service was great! I noticed that they had fresh basil plants which was exciting bcuz I love fresh basil. We ordered the fig almond salad, beet pasta (vegan) and the ragu--all which were super delicious!! I was actually taken aback by how good the beet pasta was, I wasn't expecting it to be good but it was! Especially with the pistachios added on top! It's a unique pasta sauce that's very creamy and just works! The fig & almond salad had grapefruit slices and a nice fig balsamic vinegar that added a lovely tangy flavor. All their pastas are made fresh in house and u can see them make it while you're walking around the food court which is so cool!! I also saw one of the workers grated fresh cheese. Also the food didn't take long to get either! I think it took maybe 5-7 min from the time I ordered to get our meal. Overall quick & delicious food that tastes very fresh! Def would be back ! De Nunno has opened as one of the newest vendors in the Westfield UTC Food Court. They have a stand-alone, center setup in the middle of the court with no adjacent neighbors. The concept is build-your-own pasta bowl with five "Shapes and Grains", five traditional sauces, three signature sauces, and extras in the form of specialty cheeses, proteins, and veggies as choices. Basic bowls without any extras ranged from $14 to $18. The uploaded food photos looked enticing with the ones containing conchiglie as the noodle type that caught my attention. The shape resembled a shell which is how this pasta name was derived. I paired the conchiglie with the signature Shrimp and Zucchini with Saffron Sauce to make up my order. Fresh organic zucchini squash, saffron, mascarpone, shallot, almond slices, and extra virgin olive oil were mixed with four shrimp in the bowl. After about 10 minutes, my name was called so I could return to the service counter to pick up my food. The contents were served in a shallow take-out bowl. The saffron sauce provided a bright yellow color to the conchiglie. The shrimp had a good size to them. Perhaps a bit more pasta would have been appropriate for the price. I do like how De Nunno gives the food court a fast-casual Italian option with made to order items and does not rely on heat lamps to keep bulk quantities of food warm. read more

A chain restaurant that served pastas recently left the mall. There really hasn't been anything of quality for pasta at this food court.... Until now. Please welcome De Nunno to the food court at UTC I'd seen signage and walls for quite sometime after much of the world had re-opened from Covid. To my surprise on a recent visit, the walls were gone, steam could be seen flowing from an open kitchen and employees were bustling around behind the counter. I've visited all the other restaurants in the mall so far so thought I'd give them a try. Siena was working behind the counter/ register calling out an order for another guest to pick up. She greeted me and patiently waited for my order. After browsing the menu boards, I chose the rigatoni with pesto sauce and added shrimp and zucchini. Felix soon got to work and within a few minutes, my order was ready. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. Lightly seasoned and not overdone. The pasta was so fresh, you could taste the difference from something that had been sitting on a shelf packaged for weeks if not months. Great flavor for a fast casual spot in a mall food court. Wow! I'm a big foodie. I do cook and have worked in very high end restaurants in my past. I will say for fast "kiosk" Italian place in the food court, I am pretty blown away! Although not the prettiest plate, the taste, texture and overall experience was more than above par and would have brought close to $40.00 in an upscale Italian restaurant.
