Some years ago, I made perhaps the biggest mistake ever. I contacted AHS and Herp Penrod to…read moreprovide a price for the repair and replacement of some wood gates at my home. An individual calling himself 'Carmen' came out, looked over the job, and sent out a price sheet; no contract was ever offered. My wife and I agreed and sent the entire asking price to Mr. Penrod to start the job ASAP. My wife and I are both over eighty, and we're considered old school, as Carmen pointed out the two times he spoke to us. The 'old school' was his answer to not replacing the gate handle, the house numbers, the gate spring he tore off, the flag holders on the fascia board and the discarded wood he threw over the wall. He and Mr. Penrod basically approached the job as a paid-for project that was finished. Tongue-and-groove slats were replaced with the cheapest knot-filled, and now, unrequested, spaced wood. The screw heads ranged from Phillips-head to power-tool-only acceptable. To no avail, I contacted the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, the Atty. General's office, the Tucson Better Business Bureau, they had given AHS the A+ rating I relied on, and influenced our decision, and Pima County Age Council. Their response was, "What do you want us to do?" The Tucson BBB replied that they didn't write the reviews, and the Registrar of Contractors was relieved after two appointments, both canceled, didn't address a resolution. The nearly $4,000 job was approached with a hostile age basis attitude of contempt and scorn. The check was cashed so we can do as we wish, and they did. My email request the day after the job was considered done by AHS, and only AHS, as no walk-through was offered or ever took place, to meet with Mr. Penrod and Carmen at my home was less than a five-minute conversation. It seemed it was more a pretext to appease the state's requirement. It ended with Mr. Penrod shouting across my drive, in front of my home, that he considered my email request "a much of bullshit". He later called me from what I believed was his Cell Phone, as it didn't come in clearly and I could not understand him. It was the last attempt either of us made to contact the other. The Tucson BBB continues to have an A+ rating for AHS; Angie's List, on which AHS is considered a vetted and worthy contractor, said "sorry" and was never heard from again. There is much, much more, but as I will soon turn 86, I don't have the time or energy to deal with this 'elder abuse'.

I've heard from several friends that the tile removal process is just flat awful. No other way to describe it. Our removal from Dano's resulted in a very light amount of dust and only on the obvious areas in the middle of the demo space. Hardly anything through the remainder of the home. As for installation, it took 6 days and was done in a way that my family was able to live with minimal disruptions to our daily routine and the end result was beyond our quality expectation standards. Bottom line, we got lucky finding Dano's tile because a neighbor's family used them for their installation. We're certainly glad we did and highly recommend you use them for your tile installation.

Christian Brothers did an excellent job painting my Continental Ranch home this past November 2013…read more They were referred to me by a coworker and I am so happy that I selected them to perform the work. I believe that their price was reasonable and their quality and attention to detail were very high. I gave them the specific paint manufacturer and colors required by my homeowners association and they were able to provide exactly what I asked for. Plus they provided me with extra cans of paint like I asked. I was really impressed with their employees who were all very knowledgeable, professional, and hard-working. They gave me tips on how to properly take care of the exterior of my house and yard. The first day they came and pressure washed the house, removed all the nasty spiderwebs, filled in all the hundreds of cracks, removed rocks and soil around the concrete slab perimeter, and made minor repairs to prepare for the next day's painting. The next day they scraped off the old paint , primed all the surfaces, sprayed two coats of paint (fascia, trim and body), sprayed the concrete slab perimeter, sprayed all doors, made touchups, and masked as much surfaces as possible to make sure that there won't be any overspray. Later I realized why they pulled back the soil and rocks around the perimeter slab of the house. This was done to make sure that when the soil settles in the future, there will still be paint on the concrete. I noticed the other homes around me had about 2 inches of unpainted concrete in the bottom part of their slab which looks awful. A lot of my neighbors were watching them paint and they were very, very impressed. Now my house looks awesome and brand-new! Thanks for the excellent work! L.P.

Throughout the repair, Mike (superintendent) was on the jobsite constantly checking progress, as well as the quality of the work. I should note that I was in the construction trades for 40 years. Now retired. The reason I mention this, I definitely know what to look for regarding the level of workmanship. The second person of note with Better Way is Alfred. Our hall bathroom needed to have the drywall replaced around the entire perimeter, 24" up from the floor. If asked (or if I did the work myself...) I would have said 2-3 days to complete the process....not Alfred. He accomplished everything in 1 day ! This was no rush job on his part either. I rarely see someone with his level of expertise and dedication to quality workmanship as Alfred displayed ! As an aside, Mike didn't expect him to finish in one day either ! To say I'm impressed with the level of customer service, knowledge, and dedication to quality, would be an understatement. To close, If you are considering a company to service your needs, Better Way services are the people to use !

Mickey, who fixed all of the insulation drywall and painting got it done within two days and it looked fabulous. They installed the cabinets and granite countertop without any damage. There was an issue with the backsplash tile installation but they made sure it was fixed correctly. I can't say enough about these guys and how fantastic and professional they were. I would take them over a National brand any day. And I am writing this review a year and a half after the repair because I always make sure it turns out great in the long-term.
