I threw a Hail Mary via yelp in the Projects section and one company ignored me altogether while another flat out told me they couldn't help me. Not only did Marcos answer me very quickly on Yelp, he kept me updated on the entire process every step of the way with phone calls and text messages. I was assured they were very familiar with the 6.0 engines, which was exactly what I needed. These guys even brought their flat bed all the way to Espanola to pick up the vehicle at a very reasonable price as it wasn't in running condition at the time. The truck was done in only 3 days, and that was even with having to get a part shipped in. The overall cost was fair, in fact it was great, and you can tell these guys love their work and have a great deal of interest in these trucks. They honored some of my additional requests as well. I'll be taking my Ford to them any time I'm in need of work and would highly recommend them for any vehicle. It is now one week later and my truck is running great, I'm very happy with their work.

Leonard and his team were able to diagnose a complicated problem that required several hours to repair. He communicated constantly with me, while we worried how much longer we would have to stay in Santa Fe. Leonard and his team completed the repair the next day, and we were able to drive home. We were left stranded near the I-25 on-ramp when the car simply refused to move in any gear. Santa…read moreFe is not our home town so we were ~really~ feeling stranded! Five-Hundred miles from home, we got the tow-truck and the driver suggested A-1 Transmissions as the place to get help. We met Matt who immediately came across as wanting to help but also told us he was quite backed up. He said, however, that'd he'd try to get us a diagnosis as soon as possible. To our surprise, the diagnosis was completed in only a few hours. The part we needed (shift controller) would have to ordered, then programmed for our vehicle. We decided to rent a car and go home and wait. Matt kept to his estimated schedule for the repair and also, to-the-penny on his estimated cost. We drove the rental car back to Santa Fe to pick up our car, but after test driving Matt said that he was sorry but there was additional damage inside transmission that they had missed The controller was definitely bad, and the fluid inspection had indicated no internal problem ... but there was an internal mechanical failure. To be clear, I don't fault the shop for the diagnosis. Here's why ... as a former mechanic myself I would have made the same diagnosis. When it was discovered, the best course of action is just to replace the whole transmission. Matt put us in touch with a distributor in California and got us his very best price on a replacement transmission. Then, he let us order it directly ... no middle-man markup. Now, we had to return home and come back once the transmission was received and installed. Another thousand miles round trip and rental car. When the car was finished, Matt went a long way to help us out with the expense of the replacement and I felt as though he went way above and beyond in his customer service to us. It was a huge challenge to have a major transmission failure while on a road trip but I could not have asked for a more supportive shop than A-1. I also wanted to mention that I am very impressed by Matt's technical knowledge and obvious level of familiarity through experience. To summarize, we had a one-star kind of night with a broken car in a strange town and Matt turned that into a five-star experience with his shop. Everything about our situation was handled professionally and with utmost courtesy. He called us when he said he would, he always came to the phone to talk to me when I called him and he remembered us by name after two weeks' time gone by. The car came home 500 miles as our "test" drive. It worked flawlessly; actually it was better than the original transmission. So yes, I recommend Matt and A-1 should you need transmission work. I might go so far as to say go out of your way to use that shop.

AND 10/2025, third time is the charm... THIS is my GO-TO mechanic from now on with this 3rd GREAT experience. I'd been taking my car for oil changes to a place near my work, downtown. Recently they did some brake work and gave me a list of things to fix &/or watch. There was one item, in particular, a leak in front axle, that needed repair (replacement). I decided to shop around. I called 2 other shops that I've used and are in town. This shop not only beat the price of the other 2 by over $100, they TRIPLED the warranty on the work! I've never been surprised by a bill. They tell me up front how much it will be and if they find something extra during the work, they call and discuss with me before they do anything. He looked over the list of "issues" and said none were bad enough to fix right now and we'd watch them. When I take it in for oil changes, they'll monitor them. And, on top of that, I've never seen SUCH NICE STAFF at a garage. Everyone I've worked with was smiling and friendly and EASY to work with. Working with them going forward is a no-brainer. I was going to go to the dealer because it was a bit more complicated issue - the EPC light. But the owner assured me she could check this for me. She told me to have my car there the next morning by 9:00am and they'd check it out. Almost two days passed without any info regarding my car. I made 4 or 5 calls to inquire, each time the person that answered said he'd check with the owner and call me back. No call back ever happened. Finally, late afternoon the second day I called again, got the owner who said she was just getting ready to call me(?!). She said she "ran the codes" and the car needed spark plugs, an oil change, new coil and an oil separator. Not really what I had read were common issues when the EPC light comes on... So with this quote, I was concerned; I had recently had the spark plugs replaced and my oil changed. She admittedly didn't even check the oil in this diagnostic appointment for which I was charged nearly $100. And to boot she kept saying "ESP" light, instead of "EPC." It was even in the written quote. Didn't make me feel very confident that 1) they would be able to address the EPC light issue and 2) they really knew what my car needed when two items had recently been done (plus she didn't even check my oil). She quoted me something over a $1,000 to do this work. I told her I needed my car (I never expected to not have transportation for two days) and I would get back to her at which point I had to pay a diagnostic fee for something done hastily upon my 4th or 5th call and wasn't even accurate. Thank goodness I rescheduled my previous appointment with the dealership. They looked at my car, called me within an hour and it turned out it was my cooling fan, it had broken causing the car to not be able to cool and thus making the EPC light come on. I paid little more at the dealer than the crazy erroneous quote from Autocare 2000. I think they didn't know what the problem was and decided to just throw out the most basic common issues hoping that would bandaid the problem. I tell you this so you think twice before going there if it's something more complicated, because chances are you'll have to pay for something that's not even the problem and then pay again to actually fix the issue elsewhere.
