Awesome space. Subpar everything else. Came here to have lunch and catch up with friends. The building was very nice and had a great atmosphere. We had a child with us, so they put us upstairs near the children's play area which was nice. However, it was very dark up there and, even with the lights turned on and bright windows, it felt dim. Because we were seated upstairs, service was pretty lacking and we felt forgotten. The food itself was ok. The seafood platter was very appetizing and had a nice variety of options. However, our clam pasta was so lukewarm, bland, and watery, it felt like an insult to the clams and Italian food in general. The bread was also cold, but the butter was nice. Overall, we had a nice time because we were with good company, but IJ Kantine didn't impress. read more

Nice place - I came for dinner early, and was seated right away. Had a pommodoro soup, which came out super hot. Nice big crouton and a fresh basil leaf on top. Still on this stupid diet, so I had the salad with chicken on it for the main course. Also very good. Crisp lettuce, grilled chicken and some large, thin bacon type things that were very tasty. And it filled me up (along with the soup). Good looking, friendly staff, and there was a nice view of the docks from my table. I'll definitely go back again. read more

De IJ-kantine Located across the water by way of the NDSM free ferry. We went here to have a few drinks while waiting to take the PannekoakenBoot cruise. The service is a bit slow but then we were not in a hurry so it was fine for us. There is plenty of bar and table seating The bartenders are constantly busy so to order a drink you must get their attention for service. There is a small kids play area and good access to use bathrooms upstairs. The decor inside is very scandinavian and bright. The prices are reasonable and they also serve food eventhough we didnt order any food. read more

food was ok, but choices looked like they were from Albert Heijn. They were easy to make in bulk, however, and easy for the kitchen, which is important. Seating was among tightest and loudest I have ever experienced, in my life. Lifethreatening, actually. you could get a stiff leg or worse, a DVT, or a broken tailbone (more below). Service was brusk not just brisk (a letter matters here) and showed very very tightly measured generosity. There were so, so, many mistakes in service, from my perspective. For example, the kitchen plated food in the order they wished (ie all of one type, and thus every other person got their food, not a whole table at once), and waiters took the very narrow paths with force against patrons walking and against diner's chairs. I was nearly knocked out of my chair twice until I learned my lesson. The vegetarians were really badly treated with their choice. I felt sorry for them. Their choice was less than the ubiquitous (and trite) nut roll. As the night progressed the waiters collected the half empty wine bottles. I asked why--they will sell the remainders by the glass! perhaps we bought wine by the time and not by the bottle? Perhaps the Dutch have used wine sales? Ferry ride home was cool, but cold and crowded. I cannot imagine going back (I can imagine taking the ferry, however), but 1. I would only use this warehouse to get a drink outside even if I was local. 2. I would also go there to meet with people I didn't want to talk with. 3. If my friend worked there, I could see how they might generously give me an extra 5 ml pour of wine. Heel slecht, overall. read more

A unique experience in a quiet place. IJ-Kantine is a great place to relax and whine down, it's just North of Amsterdam. I stopped in here this weekend with my Dutchman to grab a drink. This is one of my favorite places to unwind, while sipping on a hot cup of tea. The IJ-Kantine offers a wonderful scenic route along the harbor. It's an ideal spot for locals and tourist to enjoy lunch or dinner. Also, a great location for big groups because of its laid back atmosphere. What I love about this place that it allows you to be removed from the bustling crowds and tourist environments without having to go so far away. read more

Horrible. Service? more like self - service. had to run after the staff to order, correct the order, pay, well, i could've made a burger myself too.. The food... Okay, they messed up the order, but fine, can happen, never mind. The food was cold, probably sitting in the kitchen waiting for the waiter. I thought about giving it back, but that would've taken even longer so I decided against it, and i didn't want to make my friends wait. What i wouldn't tolerate is that i was sick for the rest of the evening after that burger... That wasn't a fun night at all! read more

Nice athmosphere with spacious, bright interior. Food is nice, a little more pricey compared to Norderlicht. Service is a little slow-ish. It's child-friendly place so expect some noise and red-cheeked kinderen running around :) read more

I went with some friends this past weekend for dinner. I agree with the other reviewer in that the food is way overpriced. I had the Caesar Salad at 15€! I ordered it without anchovies which came on the salad anyway. It was nice but too much money. The service was a little so-so as well. I keep coming back to this place for the oysters, view, and the fact they have a sandbox in the corner to keep my kids entertained for long periods. The service is quite horrible, I agree with everyone below. But it's relaxing enough sitting by the water that I don't mind very much - rather used to it being in Amsterdam. Add a cold white beer and oysters and I am a happy girl. The food overall is very good. I will keep coming back. :) read more

On the other side of the IJ opposite Centraal Station is a small business park where this restaurant is located. They have table service for food, snacks, bottled and draft beer. It's usually crowded on the terrace but they have plenty of seating on the inside. read more

Nice and friendly staff, the view from the terrace is very nice over the water to Amsterdam. This place is child friendly with a small play area inside. The food was nice without being anything special but I think this is reflected in its reasonable cost. I would recommend especially for younger families, (there is a kids menu as well.) I had the burger which was good and well cooked with nice relish. All in all a pleasant experience that i would recommend but nothing spectacular. read more

OK, the sandwich was fine, if a little overpriced. The soup was fine. The decor is really, really cool, with the huge windows and the bottles of liquor stacked to the ceiling. The service, though, was so bad we laughed about it for days afterward. The staff is very young and quite friendly -- they seem to have a good time working there. We had to practically BEG our server for a menu, and even then she brought a snack menu, so we had to beg once again for a lunch menu. She repeatedly asked what we wanted to drink but was unable to tell us what drinks they served. (She said there is no drink menu, despite that impressive display of liquor bottles. Another table had wine, but who knows how they figured out which wines the place carries.) The food came, it was fine, and the server never returned. We saw her furiously cleaning tables throughout the restaurant, which was pretty funny, since it wasn't like the place was overrun with patrons. Eventually we tracked her down and paid -- only to be told that the credit card machine wasn't working that day. We paid cash. The ferry ride over is fun and free. read more
