We had a child with us, so they put us upstairs near the children's play area which was nice. However, it was very dark up there and, even with the lights turned on and bright windows, it felt dim. Because we were seated upstairs, service was pretty lacking and we felt forgotten. The food itself was ok. The seafood platter was very appetizing and had a nice variety of options. However, our clam pasta was so lukewarm, bland, and watery, it felt like an insult to the clams and Italian food in general. The bread was also cold, but the butter was nice. Overall, we had a nice time because we were with good company, but IJ Kantine didn't impress.

Still on this stupid diet, so I had the salad with chicken on it for the main course. Also very good. Crisp lettuce, grilled chicken and some large, thin bacon type things that were very tasty. All in all it was a wonderful meal with a great atmosphere!

He enjoyed the combination of baked salmon, greens and a béchamel sauce. I tried the vegetarian goat cheese and walnut with rucola, which was very good; although how you could mess up those ingredients is beyond my comprehensive capabilities. It all comes down to the actual pannekoek: the fat crêpe, which the Dutchies formed into their own version. It is the same size as the French one, but much fatter and made without baking soda as in the American pancakes, because it is colder in the Netherlands (and less interesting on a culinary create-your-own-food level). The pannekoek itself was fine, not over- or under-cooked, and a good tasting flour mix. There was ample free parking after you wind your way through a subdivision. Outside a wonderfully large play area for kids to enjoy themselves in the summer months. Recommend this restaurant to drive a bit out of your way.

There is little choice in starters but ofcourse this place is all about pancakes. You can select your own toppings and make the pancake to your own liking. When I went to pay, the lady who served my table said it was 2.60. I asked if it was more if you stay than take away, and she said it's more if you have the strong coffee, which I did not specifically order, and which I do not prefer. It would be nice to be made aware of options not listed on the menu. Generally, this place is reasonable, though I and my occasional guests have had some less than exciting sandwiches-- for example, the oude kaas was a mystifying pile of crumbled cheese on thick bread. Not my cup of tea. Speaking of tea, they do have a nice selection. The staff is usually friendly, and during the week it is a pretty good place to work on my laptop. To be honest, if someone didn't say hello and greet me (not even sure if she was working there or just a guest) I probably would have left. They have Grolsch Weizen beer on tap as well as many others. I miss the Wiezen at my own bar, so that's why I stopped here. Super friendly, young, helpful bar and wait staff. Only breakfast, lunch and bar snacks (at night) due to the Covid restrictions. It's difficult to fully ramp-up a restaurant these days IF you play by the government rules so I commend and respect them for not filling this place with people which I'm sure they could. It was raining outside so I can only imagine how crowded the outdoor terrace would be in the sun. I look forward to many more visits since my new office is in the same building....woo hoo!
