It is owned by a gentleman from Paris, and the menu is tastefully appointed. I ordered the egg coddler with salmon, and my wife had the egg coddler with goat cheese, and it was AMAZING. Ultimately, the egg coddler is a glass jar with two eggs in a little cream, cooked to an over easy state (or 1/2 poached egg) with your choice of ham, salmon, goat cheese or tomato and herbs. It was out of this world. Since we are gluten-free, we ordered fries (frites) instead of toast, and they were also delightfully delicious. We had cocktails, which were also good. I've returned again for the coddler, and fresh ginger tea. Not to be disappointed! Hit this place up.

An authentic Chinese restaurant in this part of Amsterdam is an unusual find. The restaurant is…read morelocated just inside the New Century hotel and opened just a year ago. The location is also not very obvious, the hotel is located just next to a big McDonalds restaurant in a more industrial area. Just before you get to the McDonalds, you have to take a right to enter the hotel parking lot. There is no sign outside indicating that there is a good sized restaurant inside. Once inside, the hotel lobby interior decor feels very Asian and many of the staff are Asian. You almost feel like you just entered a hotel in China. The staff speaks English, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin dialects I think) as well as Dutch. We didn't stay at the hotel so this review is for the restaurant ONLY. We had made a reservation ahead of time, for a large group of almost 20 people and the staff was very friendly, patient and accommodating. If you want to contact the restaurant directly without going through the hotel reception, call 020-6100270 instead. We selected one of the set menus and got more than enough food. The menu appears to have many Cantonese specialities. I particularly enjoyed the delicious Peking duck (served with pancakes), the wonton soup, the steamed oysters, the white chicken and the crispy squid stuffed with shrimp. If you want the crispy pork belly though, you have to order a day ahead of time. Overall, the food was excellent and this restaurant is on par with the good Chinese restaurants in downtown Amsterdam. Prices were reasonable. The place is a bit of a hidden gem that I only managed to find because my mom knew about it from a local source (they don't have a website). Judging by the presence of other Asian customers, I think word has gotten around. I would definitely consider coming back here.

This restaurant is tucked away inside the New Century Hotel on the desolate outskirts of Amsterdam…read more It was put there in late 2017 to accommodate the flow of Asian travelers from nearby Schiphol Airport. As such it aims to cater the needs of international customers, but specializes in authentic Cantonese cuisine. It is staffed by regulars from the local Chinese community and the quality and service is on par with that of the more famous restaurants in down town Chinatown (Oriental City, Sea Palace, Nam Kee, etc). It lacks the (stereotype) Chinese ambiance in favor of a more hotel lounge feel. But there's always the cozy buzz of Chinese customers enjoying the great food. For me the advantage is that it is very easy to reach by car or public transport (or bike on a sunny day), and it usually isn't crowded like the better known places. But be sure to check if they have a table available, as large Chinese delegations are sometimes dropped there. Overall, consistently an excellent place for yumcha or dinner!

Upon arrival, we didn't feel welcomed even checking in with a reservation. We asked for outside seating but they said they reserved us inside seating either at the bar or at the bar shelf by the window at the entrance door. Immediately, my husband and I felt that this was very much a locals place and they very much don't want tourists. (I get it, coined flipped, I live in South Florida) We decided to take the 2 bar seats on the quiet side of the bar. It gave us a view to the kitchen, which was the best part of the meal. I could see the absolute passion from the guys in the kitchen cooking and plating their love for food. Too bad the rest of the service from the bar was less than stellar. I probably wouldn't come back but I would recommend anyone local to check it out for the food above all. The clams had a wonderful broth that I wish there was a basket of bread to soak up the juice left over from the chorizo crumbles and meaty little clams. The skewers of roasted chicken thighs were crispy and well seasoned on the outside while being tender and juicy on the inside. So simply yet so complex. Just wish the service was more complex, or at least friendly.
