It was around 4 pm, so the restaurant was quiet and there was plenty of space to set down my luggage. There was only one guy working up front for the closing shift, and he was lovely. I came back a second time and the two people hanging behind the counter were a little spacey. I waited at the front for several minutes with a few other patrons while they chatted in full view. It wasn't a big deal for me, but the other people behind me appeared to be in a rush. I ordered a chocolate croissant and a berry lemonade. After I was sitting for a few minutes, the girl from the counter told me they were out of the berry flavor and asked if I'd be okay with the mint. It was only 10 a.m., so I'm not sure if they made the lemonade fresh that morning like usual. The mint was just as yummy, but if you're in a hurry and wanting something specific, this location might be a hit or miss.

The cafe recently opened near the Hoofddorplein and is already getting very popular with the locals. I totally get why, since Bert makes a delicious coffee and is also a very cool guy who is in for a little chat. The good reputation of their Antwerp location also does not hurt at all. Antwerp location? Well yes, Caffènation is a much loved coffeeshop in Antwerp. We are very lucky that Bert fell in serious love with a Dutch girl because that is what brought him here! And now he owns the Caffènation location here in Ansterdam. Cool stuff right? Coffee lovers will really enjoy the big drinks menu at this place which offers a lot of different choices like cappuccino and espresso but also more adventurous drinks like a 'Ginger Spice' or a 'Bitter Moon'. Last few times I went with a flat white (like usual, they are my favorite!) and that tasted great. The space is quite big and has a lot of cosy spots to sit. You can even come over with a group of friends since in the downstairs area are a lot of seats. Great right?! Not so crowded like most city center spots and a way nicer and more personal vibe. I can imagine this place would do great for working or studying as well. Just go soon because i'm sure this place be discovered by the big crowds soon!

I first ordered an iced cappuccino, which tasted great, but the serving glass was very small, so I ended up ordering another drink, the cappuccino caramel crumble, which came with a lot of sweet cream and chocolate chips on top! This branch of Starbucks is located right near the Amsterdam Arena / Johan Cruyff Arena inside…read moreBijmer Station, I did find this hard to find and spent over 10 minutes finding this branch at first from leaving the station, only to find out it is tucked away into the corner of the station its-self (you can access this store with or without a train ticket!), so it's worth noting that it is in the Train Station to avoid making the mistake I did of exiting the train station to head towards Arena Boulevard. The store from the outside did look pretty nice, however, towards the back of the store, it went from nice and modern to more of the opposite, so the change in decor isn't something I like about the store. I ordered my usual Venti Vanilla ColdBrew Latte, this came to a total of €5.45, with 70 cents of that being for the extra shot of vanilla syrup - this makes this Starbucks store very expensive, it is the same price as Central Station, cheaper than the branch at Schipol Plaza yet more expensive than what I'm used to in the UK, or at the Doubletree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal. Overall, the drink cost around £1.70 more than what I'm used to paying in the UK, when converting both prices to pounds/UK currency which is over 50% so very disappointing. The quality of my drink was below average, although in most parts it was good, the bottom tasted a little dry and watery which was a shame, especially considering my love for this beverage with it being my regular order at Starbucks, and the price I paid for it being extortionate. This branch does have free wifi which works, it is under the KPN name and provided by them as well - I can't help but find it confusing as to why they didn't just call it Starbucks wifi or something similar which every other branch I've been too, including others in Amsterdam has done. The service also seemed a little rushed and impersonal, I get this is a station store but the store when I visited was quite quiet, so there's no excuse to feel like this - I'd hate to think what service would be like on a busier day, such as a weekend or event day at the Amsterdam Arena. High pricing and low quality beverages and service sadly mean this Starbucks deserves a one-star rating.
