My carne molida con tajadas (ground beef with plantain slices) ($16) was served with a smile 13 minutes after I ordered at the table, where the service was attentive and helpful. The wait gave me time to dig into the complimentary chips and salsa (both served warm). The entrée was very generously sized with great portions of moist, tasty, perfectly cooked ground beef on a bed of sliced plantains with cabbage and pickled onions. It was a nice combination of flavors and textures. I found the interior to be clean, basic and colorful with a nice, large mural, a mix of booths and tables and background dialogue coming from one of the three TVs. Hot sauce was available at the tables to spice things up, if needed. The menu included appetizers, baleadas, breakfast items, lunch items, dinner items, soups and beverages. I wish they had lunch specials with smaller portions, but overall, it was a good experience with a rather unique cuisine.

I wasn't sure if I believed the hype. On Saturday we saw the truck and his eyes got as big as saucers. He ordered three pork bulgogi tacos, I got two tacos, one pork bulgogi, one Caribbean jerk. We got queso and chips as well. After we found a place to sit, and Gary finally got to dig in, I asked, "Was it everything you remember and more?" He was grinning from ear to ear and nodded yes. For my experience with the Casual Foodie I have to say, the pork bulgogi lived up to the hype. The meat on those tacos is out of this world. And the sauce on it is a perfect compliment. They're topped with a fried egg so it is rich. The reason I'm doing four stars and not five is while the Caribbean jerk was good it wasn't on the level of the bulgogi. Queso was good. Friendly service. Saw they're in Lenexa this weekend and we'll probably make our way out there to get more tacos.

Chips and queso were pretty good. I like that they lightly seasoned the chips. I was expecting the pork and chicken to have a big punch of flavor but it was really lacking. I liked the flour tortilla shells that were used but it would have been better if they had warmed the tortillas first. They do provide a generous serving of meat, but I would have liked more toppings on the tacos. Service was ok. They were able to move through the orders fairly quickly. If anyone is a germaphobe, I wouldn't recommend eating here. I saw he used the same gloves to grab your order card, stick it up near the window, prepare the chips and grab the tortillas. It wasn't that big of a deal but just a heads up if something like that were to bother you.

It's commonly parked on the southwest corner of Santa Fe (135th) and Ridgeview for lunch and dinner service. We arrived at 1:00 on a Wednesday, and there wasn't any line! The menu is pretty simple and straight-forward: a handful of "plates" that vary in carnivorous selection, along with rice, charro beans, green sauce, red sauce, pico, lime, tortillas & grilled jalapeño. Our family of four decided on a Full chicken (8 pieces) and a Mixed Plate (chicken, steak ("arrachera"), and short ribs). This was easily enough food for our family of four! My son enjoyed eating the chicken legs and thighs plain, while the other three of us made tacos out of the meat, beans, rice, lime, salsas, and tortillas! Speaking of the tortillas: they were corn-based, but much stronger than typical corn tortillas, which was very much appreciated! The chicken and arrachera were amazing!! The chicken was well seasoned, and the dark meats were perfectly cooked! The breast meat was just a tiny bit overcooked, but only by the smallest margin. I only mention it because I was a little surprised that a place with chicken in the name, and cooking, what I suspect to be, dozens of chickens a day, would overdo it. The arrachera was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and tore apart easily by hand to make lovely arrachera tacos! Now, unfortunately, for the bad news: when we got home and opened up our food, we found that there were zero short ribs in our mixed plate box! They didn't mention being out, and there wasn't any extra of the other two meats. Since this was 1/3 of the proteins included in an over-$20 plate, it was pretty disappointing. Since they failed to mention this fact when ordering or receiving the food, it unfortunately affects both the value and service rating in my review. The rice and beans were fantastic! Everything stayed really nice and warm for our 15-minute drive home, meaning they prepared and boxed everything well. On the positive side with regard to service: they DID mention up front that ordering a mixed plate would result in a 7-8 minute wait, which proved accurate. Being in customer-facing roles my entire professional life, I strongly appreciate and respect when people set proper expectations up front! A+ for this move, and also for having a transponder system set up for ordering/collecting food. Due to the amazing food we DID receive, combined with speedy and convenient service, we'll be back for round two very soon! ....I'll just be checking my order upon receipt at the window to make sure I finally get that short rib! :) Food = 4/5 Service = 3/5 Value = 3/5

I visited them in SW Olathe after checking their social media for upcoming dates and locations. My brisket combo ($11.00) included a brisket sandwich, one side and a canned drink or bottled water. I added a second side ($2.00). The sandwich had a generous quantity of tasty, smoked, lean brisket on a fresh bun. I was surprised to see they did not offer baked beans, but their flavorful potato salad was a stellar substitute. The cole slaw was also first-rate. Two BBQ sauces were available upon request - original and hot. Both were very good and nicely complemented the brisket. I found the service at the window to be friendly, cheerful and efficient with only a two-minute wait for my order. My three street tacos ($2 each including tax) and one fish taco ($3 including tax) were ready eight minutes after I ordered. The ordering process was efficient, with a friendly staff member outside the truck using an iPad with a credit card reader. There was no signing and no touching the iPad, so it was all contact-free. The tacos were nicely packaged, with a nice, medium salsa and lime wedges. The 4" tortillas were soft, moist, and fresh, while the four meats I tried varied greatly in flavor. The al pastor was moist, flavorful, and somewhat spicy with a good portion size (nice!), while the marinated pollo was a little drier (but still good), the grilled tilapia was okay with only a small portion size, and the asada consisted of tiny, over-cooked, dry beef cubes. Bottled water and sodas were available at reasonable prices from their cooler, but there was no seating. Watch their social media sites for their next location. Overall, I'm thinking 3.5 stars and rounding up for the reasonable price.

I've had their quesidillas, tamales, and raspberry tamales. I think the quesidillas might be my favorite, but on different days, they tend to offer different things. Maybe the bbq nachos are my favorite, or the tamales. Once, in Raytown, I had their barbecue nachos. It was way more than I could eat, which made 2 excellent meals. They didn't put much gloppy cheese on it, (like I requested) and the nachos were even good at the second meal. It pulled pork, bbq sauce, and fresh vegetable. Little cheese. I like their tamales too. Heck, I generally like it all. If you make a special request, they will go out of the way to make the food for you, say, no dairy sauce, or no cheese. No problem. They are polite and nice about it. From the moment I walked up to their bright and inviting food truck (parked conveniently in the Kohl's parking lot), I could tell this was going to be something special. Let's start with the food -- these are hands down some of the freshest tacos I've ever had. The tortillas? Nemo's fresh and made daily, soft yet perfectly sturdy to hold generous portions of meat and toppings. The meat? Juicy, seasoned to perfection, and cooked with the kind of care you can only get from people who truly love what they do. And the salsa -- oh, the salsa! Vibrant, layered in flavor, with just the right amount of heat. You can taste the passion and tradition in every bite. One thing that stood out to me was how clean and organized their truck was. As someone who eats at a lot of food trucks, I really notice when a place takes pride not only in their food but also in their space -- and El Taco Riendo sets the bar high. Everything from the prep area to the condiments station looked spotless, and that just adds to the confidence you feel ordering here. It's not just about the food though -- it's the experience.
