I came here to get my car inspected; was charged the inspection fee, and told my car failed because it couldn't connect to the emissions computer for the inspection. I was further told they were too busy, but I should come back at a time when I could leave the car and they'd work on car to figure out the problem. A friend's brother owns a gas station; he suggested I bring it there to see if they could at least ascertain the problem. Again the car couldn't connect to the emissions machine; here they not only didn't charge me for the inspection, they advised me that I should take the car to the dealer, and that likely only the dealer could reboot or restore system. for the car to be inspected Not only did the dealer do so, but they told me that the part of the car that connected to the emission machine was damaged--most likely by improper usage or connection. This is a relatively new car, this was the first time I needed to renew the inspection, so I'm left feeling as if this place damaged my car--whether accidentally or maliciously I do not know. In either event, this is a main thing this spot advertised for, and failed to deliver--whether through lack of competence or maliciousness I do not know--but I was quite disappointed and unfortunately cannot recommend. read more

Update: I called the owner to tried and talk the situation out before complaining to the DMV and he was just more rude than before and had the balls to ask me "how am i supposed top know what a skid plate looks like?". I explained it had to be removed for a simple oil change so i KNOW what it looks like. The man is having a break down over having to replace a 20 dollar part on my car that he broke. Went in for a simple inspection and as Im waiting i hear some nasty scrapes as the tech is pulling my car into the garage...not too uncommon, ive worked in a dealership with techs before...but then he says "I need to remove your skid plate" (never said hed charge me) odd question for an inspection but i say yes. So he finished up and he hands me a bill for $27 but says "that'll be $50" of course i ask why and he says it was to "take off my skid plate"...I ask why hed ask but not tell me he was gonna charge me for it to which he sneered rudely "you want it back?". This spot is very convenient near the parkways, highways, for service, inspections are lightning fast, but it's kind of like a giant spider web, just waiting for you to get caught in it. The owner is very likable. He looks very much like a Teddy Bear come to life. Problem is most repairs are $500, $700, and I got caught with the "sorry can't take your car off the lift without doing the repairs" BS. After going elsewhere most of my repairs these days are in the $200 range, and my car is 17 years old! My trusted mechanic, of nearly twenty years, retired last year (DiBona in Bronxville). He was like a family member to all of his regular clients. He was not cheap, or expensive. His shop was always packed with cars, and mechanics. The repair times were insanely fast, and reliable. Business was resolved with a hand shake. My old mechanic was brutally honest. Three years ago, I brought him my old car with an oil leak. He didn't want to fix it. He said that for a car of that age, the repairs would cost more than the worth of the vehicle. He could have done it, but he didn't want to rip me off. He didn't charge me for spending time looking at it (honestly, that's too kind for a business). I got another car instead. So, now I have to find another mechanic. DCP is within walking distance of my house. I gave it a try for a brake replacement. Not bad. It was a test. I was looking for a mechanic to last me twenty more years. Later, I bring in my wife's car that had a small oil leak. He said it's a seal on the engine, and gave me a price. I agreed to fix it. Done. When I came back, he said there is another leak. I agreed to fix it. There was another leak... Then it was the oil pump. Okay, fixed it. The oil pump blew. He did it again. Then he found a crack in the engine.... At that point, I was mad, and I told him why: My old mechanic would have seen all of these issues as possibilities, explored the situation, and warned me off the money pit ahead of time. Just like before, he would have taken a look at the vehicle, considered it's age, and given me his honest opinion. What was the end cost for the car? Almost four thousand after finally adding a used engine. He also told me, when I was strongly considering abandoning the repairs up to that point (approximately $1k spent), "I can't take it off the lift until I repair it." As other people said, the owner is very likeable, and it appears, a competent mechanic, but he needs to work on his approach/accuracy with estimates. If his estimate had been more on target, this would be a four star review. Instead, I'm giving his shop three stars because I had one good brake repair and inspection. There is no oil leak on the current car, and it runs nicely, but I didn't appreciate the string of estimates that ran from $300 to nearly $4,000. read more

Follow up......I took my vehicle to a reputable ASC Certified Shop 2 days later to redo my inspection. Of course, I passed, requiring nothing to do so. DCP told me I failed on emissions. At other shop I passed. DCP told me I had a bad exhaust leak, requiring extensive repair. At other shop, a pinhole found in "Y" pipe near engine, patched for free with hi-temp epoxy (no charge). They told me it had no bearing on me passing emissions, or not. "Check Engine" light was never on. Unless this IS on, you will not fail emissions. DCP told me my brake pads were all shot. Other shop told me pads at 50% and fine. DCP said I also failed from a small transmission fluid leak. Other shop mechanic laughed when he heard this. Not criteria for NYS inspection. Go to a reputable shop who does not employ tactics to make unnecessary work. Had DCP played it straight, they would have had a customer for life. As a women, I have always felt so intimidated by going to an auto repair shop, because of my fear of being ''taken for a ride". Friends have told me that the only way to get past my fear is to drive around and get a few different estimates. Well, it worked, because not only was the estimate at DCP lower than the others I got in Yonkers, but also Damon at DCP was patient enough to carefully explain to me why I needed a new catalytic converter for my 1998 Ford. I noticed that he wasn't just spending time with me because of the female factor, because there were two other men hanging out in the careworn little office, waiting for their cars, and chatting happily away with Damon, too. It was a friendly place, and I felt safe about the estimate and the parts and repairs being fair and accurate. And I was right. Since I did not have all of the funds I needed for the catalytic converter at the time, and therefore could not pass inspection emissions check, Damon let me leave the car there until I had the funds, in order to avoid getting a ticket. I wonder why getting my old reliable car repaired is such an emotional stress-test for me. Same with buying or selling a car, and buying the right oil. All so invested with emotions. TERRIBLE!! I bought these guys brakes fr them to install and they said they could do it no problem. Short story:My WHEEL fell off!! Wheel wasnt sitting right so i asked to fix it, id even pay extra. They said its my problem and wouldn't give me my car till i paid for the job and basically told me to leave. 2 min after I left wheel flew off. If I could give zero stars, I would. Damon, who seems to be the owner, is the epitome of your stereotypical cheat mechanic. Even if you find yourself stranded here, get your vehicle towed to ANYWHERE else, because he will attempt to pinch every dollar out of you to repair your vehicle, and then have the Audacity to offer to buy the car for pennies (as he did to me when I declined his repair estimate.) Also, don't fall in to the trap of leaving your car there overnight or receiving an estimate from him. His estimate fee is $75, and that price isn't listed anywhere in the office. A storage fee is also added on every day your car is there, he will not tell you this until after the fact. As a sign of good faith I also gave him $20 the first day thinking it would go towards my estimate fee, however the very next day he played stupid and said I needed to pay the full $75 to get the vehicle back. Not to mention how he wouldn't share the codes that came up using the diagnostic tool when I asked him. He wouldn't even clarify what the issues with the vehicle were, just labeling them as a mechanical or interior issue. In order to fix a coolant leakage, one headlight replacement, new brake pads and a Solonoid switch replacement on a 2012 Focus, he estimated the repair to be over $4000. A second and third opinion both verified that the work to be done with minimal labor cost would come out to approximately $800-$900. After declining to get work done at his shop he proceeded to then offer me $1000 for my vehicle. Stay away from this place read more

It's a little auto shop, as most come these days. Very small with two bays for them to work in. I waited for about 45 minutes total to get my car inspected. (Yeah! Passed with flying colors). This guy is incompetent. I brought him a steering knuckle and ball joint, just needed it pressed in and out. He took a whole day to do it claiming his tool broke. He never called I had to go there 4 hours later to find out. I went the next day and he destroyed the ball joint trying to get it in claiming it was the wrong part, which I confirmed it was the right part. He then says he can get me a ball joint. Calls his part guy and tells me $45 or $90. I told him direct from honda is less than $90, what is the brand name. He says he doesn't ask brand names only prices. Then tries to throw out his I've been doing this 27 years I know more than you garbage. Stay far away from here, guy can't even press a simple ball joint. Avoid this place. No integrity and very greedy I went to get an inspection, waited for over an hour as other newer model vehicles were passed. Then he (Damon) tells me I need new breaks, I decline, then he finds a tiny hole in the muffler and tells me I need to get a new muffler to pass inspection($500) . My check engine light was NOT even on and this guy is fishing for minor issues to make a quick buck. I ended up patching the hole with a patch from Auto zone, my breaks were fine. Been using these guys for 4+ years now. Get there early because he can have a line, but he will always give you a fair price, and not try to sell you more than you need. Case in point. I had a "dealer" repair I needed to do for my Honda Odyssey. The Honda place said I needed brakes. I knew that. They also said I needed new front rotors and turned rear rotors. $575. I told them I would go to my guy (DCP). In the interim I needed tires so I went to the tire place. They, of course told me what I already knew. I needed brakes. They told me I needed rotors on front AND back. $600+. I told them the same thing. Went to DCP. Told them the above story. He looked at it, and then showed me... I did not need front OR back rotors at all. The Honda Dealership and the tire place were trying to jack me for more $$. Total cost?... $325. Car runs like a top. read more

I rented a U-Haul truck. I was told facility would open at 8:00 in the morning. Had picked out and reserved the truck the day before. Explained would need to leave as close to 8 a.m. as possible the following day as had a meeting on Long Island at 9:00. Service agent didn't arrive until 8:10. Then did a lot of chores that weren't necessary to do before helping me to get on my way. I had been waiting there for him since before 8:00. It was now around 8:30. Then it took too long to re-input the same info I had given the day before.
