The DC Armory hosts various events, such as galas, expositions, conventions, concerts, sporting events, trade shows, and so on - there's supposedly 70,000 square feet of exhibition space, a seating capacity of 10,000, and 3 lots for parking. I recently went there for a festival, and the set-up was great. There was some confusion in regards to parking, but that was more on the event organizers' fault. I was directed to park at another lot by the school, but I should have gone for one of the 2-hour parking on the streets that are of limited availability. Note that there's construction and blinking traffic lights, so be cautious of the traffic. It is a bit of a walk from the lots to the main entrance area. Formerly the HQ for the D.C. National Guard, the D.C. Armory is now an events space operated by Events D.C. It still looks military and the inside main floor is totally gutted so it can be transformed into anything- a stage, a court, an art gallery, you name it. There are restrooms throughout the building, snack stands, and it's literally right next to the Stadium-Armory Metro on the Orange/Blue line. read more

If you have to rave in DC... ...DC Armory is the place to it. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen many being held there since 2011. Probably with Glow being the largest electronic music promoters and getting all the big DJs over to Fur then Echostage, the Armory may be no longer a second thought. However this is/was my favorite venue. Rugged, unglamorous, tons of floor space for dance, large outdoor area and a few lines for entry. I wish I had partied here more. Came here for my MCM packet pickup, which was a pretty easy process... The expo itself was held inside the armory and it was a great space. Plenty of room to walk around, great vendors. Even though I didn't drive, I think it's great they had free parking, which is hard to come by in the city for pretty much anything. It's been many years since I've been to the DC Armory. I returned yesterday to watch Rollerderby. The main floor of the Armory itself - where activities and events take place is nice enough and functional. But in other areas, the place clearly needs a major overhaul. For example - the restrooms. The Men's Restroom that I went to was disgusting and in sad shape. It needed major renovation, and it needed to be cleaned. I sure hope they don't let this venue go down the tubes! read more

Wow...armory review. This is a US Govement propierty, so you get exactly what you'd expect - military installation. Good place to have events, the event I went to was actually a expo, the place was large enough and lighting was nice. Food vender...they offer usual finger food like bungers, hot dogs, fries, etc etc. Bathroom situation is a little sad shape, but hey this is a US base. I have listened to Armin van Buuren for over ten years; when I found out that he was in town, I signed myself up immediately. Avicii was there too, and to be fair, I really like his music as well. Great up and coming DJ. The DC Armory was a good place to host Avicii and AVB. They had Avicii perform one night, and AVB the next. I chose to drive in because I didn't want to deal with public transportation, and there was plenty of parking. You just have to walk a bit. It was a hassle getting into the Armory itself, but that's just the usual rowdy crowded mess. DC Armory is huge, and considering it was my first time there, I was pretty surprised. They had overpriced drinks in the back for this event, and trying to make your way up front is a challenge. For those there just for the musical experience, they had stands up top for you to sit in and be free from the crazy down below. I like this venue, and could see myself returning for future events. The drive in wasn't too bad, parking is easy and accessible, and the space is huge. Lines for the bathroom can get long, but it moved fast enough for the guys. To sum up, a good place to host concerts/raves. read more

This is a great venue to take a tour or attend an event. There are parking lots all over but metro is close by.

Although the building itself is historic and seemingly well maintained, the interior is incredibly dated. I came here for a volunteer event and was surprised to see it wasn't as grand on the inside as the outside. That being said, it did host our event nicely. There was an insane amount of space for both the tables and the stage, as well as all the "behind the scenes" stuff -- like where we were putting the food on plates for the guests. It's a decent venue, but it would be nice to see some renovations. read more

I came here for the 2 day Glow Event: Super Glow with Avicii and Armin Van Buuren. Day 1: Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Cazzette and Avicii. Doors opened at 5, and we were there by 7:15. SJ & RM are masters...sick sick sick beats for two hours. It was EMPTY. We had so much room to dance our little hearts out. Cazzette come on at 8:00, and is basically Avicii in 10 years time, but so much more talented. He played until 11:00 and that's when Mr. Tim Bergling came on. Props to him for not opening with Levels, but major deduction of points because his set was so BORING in the middle! It's not good when your two openers are more fun than you are. Plus, the crowd was mostly wasted 17 year olds who kept pushing through the crowd relentlessly. Had I not been with my crew, it would have been very ugly. Day 2: Pleasurekraft and... ARMIN VAN BUUREN. SIX HOUR AVB SET. s i x h o u r s !!!!!! OH MY GAH. He went on at 8, and we were there at 7:15. And I did not stop dancing until 2am. I have no words for the incredibleness that is AVB. I thought he wow'd me at Electric Zoo...well, this squashed, pulverized and annihilated that. I love you Armin. See you again at Ultra. That being said, the crowd was also MUCH better on this night. Older, less drunkards. The energy was incredible...the love that you feel at a true EDM show is unbeatable, and indescribable. So much positive energy, it really fuels the rave. (Yeah, it 's weird to see people giving eachother massages, light shows and being in their own little worlds, but that's the beauty of the scene...anything goes!) As far as the space.... It's ENORMOUS. The sound system is FANTASTIC and they had the doors open so you always got nice rushes of air. They had coolers of tall boys set up for sale (beers were $8-9 and water was $4 a bottle). They had food too, but who the hell eats at a dance concert? Bathroom lines sucked, but there were 2 or 3 of them including one cess pool outside. Smokers were banished outside. Well, they were supposed to, but there's always reefer abound at EDM shows. The back was much less crowded than the front (duh) so we would escape there when we wanted space and room to run and dance around like loons. Security was nice, if a little curt, but they're dealing with kids who are either wasted, on drugs or just generally annoying. So I give them a pass. Anyway, I liked this place a lot and the organization was great. Get there early, and you will never wait on line. Oh, and the Metro is around the corner. read more

Immediate Metro access, lots of parking options (street and parking lots, although make sure to read the signage for street parking since a lot of it is time-restricted residential parking), plenty of bathrooms. It's a great open space with loads of arrangement options with the bleachers. Renovation wouldn't hurt, but for low-priced events where you want to be close to the action/entertainment, this is excellent. read more

I've been to a lot of concerts. Saw Avicii here recently. Easily one of the worst shows I've been to. Probably the worst. It sucks too because Avicii's music is so good, but the sound system and situation of DC Armory just shattered any possibility of an enjoyable show. The system is all bass-and not the good kind. The bass rumbles the hard floor and reverberates off the brick walls so hard you can't even hear any other parts of the music. Literally impossible. If it were a dubstep show I think the crowd may have turned deaf. Also the sound just cut out a few times and Avicii was noticeably pissed. I'm no professional sound engineer but I can tell you this is the worst sound system I have ever seen. The staff at this place is simply incompetent. The show sold over 9,000 tickets and it was way overfilled. They hired a company to do coat check and I don't even know how to put this situation into words. There was 9,000 people and a lot had coats. The coat check had no system for finding the coats! They just went and searched in thousands of coats for yours. People were getting so angry and pushing up to get their coats cause the "staff" (if you can call them that) got about 1 coat per 5 minutes. Tables were being knocked down and people were getting in fights everywhere over frustration of being overcrowded in the area trying to get their coats. I honestly thought a riot was going to happen. It was absolutely insane. And this "company" charged $5 dollars per coat (and had no change?). I am happy to say I got out of there alive. Absolute insanity. There is really nothing good about this place or its staff all-in-all. How they manage big shows like Avicii and David Guetta is beyond me. I can't see why anyone would want to subject them to this place. I could tell Avicii was as upset as I was. If a ticket for a show here is over $5 I recommend not going. read more

I end up here a lot to go watch roller derby. As a venue for derby, it's not too bad. It's nice and large with a lot of great seating. Parking is always pay parking unless you can find something on the street near by (but watch out for signs that say they'll tow during stadium events. Armory events count as stadium events!) The food and beer sold by the armory is always over priced and disappointing (but hey, it's stadium food. What do you expect?) The bathrooms are horrendous. Terrifying even. They're laid out in this strange way that funnels everyone coming or going into the middle of the room and that leads to a lot of unwanted accidental body contact. Yuck. And the smell...uhg. The staff is always relatively nice. They can be a bit blunt at times but I guess that's what happens when you deal with crowds of people on a regular basis. read more

The DC Armory is a great venue to hold events. I mostly attend the DC Rollergirls bouting events, the season runs from Sep thru May. But, I've also attended Arena Football with the DC Armour and most recently the Army Ten-Miler Expo. The Armory is home to the DC National Guard - who train here. It's an historic place - google the Armory and you'll find alot of interesting tidbits. The most recent renovation is the wood floor and a couple of updated locker rooms. It has stadium seating, and is nice and warm in the winter - but no AC for the hot months. The main bathrooms, while clean for the most part - need renovating. But, I enjoy coming to the events because of the space, at some event places I feel closed in - but with the Armory's really high-rounded ceiling - it feels very open. read more

Hosted the Marine Corps Marathon pre-race event. Other than the parking, this place is well-run for a government building. Probably because the Marines were running the show that day. Be sure to explore the outer area as there are some helicopters and other battle armaments on display. read more

The Avicii concert was the worst experience of my life. I am never going back. Here is the letter I wrote to all of the corporate people at CSC security. It sums it up. I can safely say your "security" team ran the single most poorly-managed event I have ever had the misfortune of attending. The Avicii concert at Stadium-Armory was not only disastrously disorganized, but your "security" members were of the lowest-quality scum ever scraped out of the DC gutters. Upon arrival, we were held out in the freezing cold for easily an hour, because the event doors were inexplicably shut on us. We had all purchased tickets well in advance (read: months) and expected to be admitted in an orderly fashion as we have to countless similar events before. This was apparently too much for your "security" team to handle. As we were literally being crushed, and in serious danger of being trampled, two doors were opened again. TWO doors. And your "security" team still couldn't manage the crowd even then. We all walked right past ticket scanners and ID checkers without being stopped. Additionally, your "security" team didn't know a single thing about the venue or the concert itself. I was directed to no less than three different corners of the stadium before finally locating the coat check. I was given the wrong directions THREE times. And here's why I continue to label your "security" team with such sarcasm. We all lost each other in the terrifying push to get in through the doors. One of my friends, who was alone and waiting on another one of us to find her, was molested by your "security" members. One, an overweight black man, began poking her in the stomach. As she was arguing with him, another came up and touched her breast. He explicitly told her it was fine because he was a "security" agent. Disgusting. Appalling. Repulsive. After the show ended and we were STILL trying to locate our friends, your "security" members threatened to physically remove us from the premises, even though the coat check wait time was probably 30-45 minutes. When I told your "security" members about our situation, a situation that was entirely caused by your team, he told me he didn't care. He didn't care one of his team members molested my friend. He didn't care there were several intoxicated lost girls alone in the absolute madness that was your event. He only started caring when my enraged screams attracted an actual police officer. We continued to have run-ins with your "security" members the rest of the night, all of whom gave us wrong information and told us they weren't concerned with their team members' behavior. There was no communication, no direction, no respect, no anything. They were the worst people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Stupid, rude, ignorant, and of course, sexual offenders. Personally, I feel like you owe me and my ten friends an official apology, and an investigation into the abhorrent behavior of your employees, as well as a full refund of our ticket price. I know that last demand is unrealistic, but your "security" team cut at least two hours from our experience at the concert. You effectively ruined our night, and decidedly turned us from attending any event run by your team, any event at the Stadium-Armory, or any Avicii concert ever again. As a young, petite female, I expect a certain level of treatment and protection from anyone who wears a security vest. You, sir, have failed those expectations. I no longer have any respect for your organization or any of your team members. Clearly I have higher standards than do you and your hiring manager. read more

Armory has great events, but the absurd incompetent staff are ridiculous. I've never seen such nonsense in my entire life. They have 30 seconds of power in their worthless pathetic lives and they take it to their full advantage. Not only is that venue incapable of hosting a large event (+400 people), but they ruin any mainstream artists that want to perform there. Specifically, at Glow on 2/1/2013 they left over 500 people outside in the 15 degree weather because the 4 staffers couldn't read numbers nor could they handle a crowd. Armory is the worst venue in the mid atlantic / north east. DO NOT GO. read more

Leaving a bad review for this place is fairly moot, since if there's an event you want to see you're probably going to go anyway. However I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience at an event here. I went to DC Armory for a concert. The space itself was fine--no real complaints there. Drink selection is very limited and overpriced, but that's nothing too much out of the ordinary. What aggravated me was their handling of the crowd after the event. The concert ended a little after 2am, and as it was winter many people had checked their coats. The coat check area got completely flooded with a huge crowd after the show (again expected), and the staff seemed to be 1) unfamiliar with the coat numbering scheme, and 2) totally unaware of how to manage the crowd. It was taking the people working coat check forever to find coats once given a number (they couldn't even find my friend's coat and she had to go back in the racks to look for it), which only contributed to the wait. There was no line, just a mass of people crowding and pushing, and the security guards were trying a whole combination of yelling at people/threatening longer wait times/forcing people to spread out and move back. Other than that we were all crowding, none of the people that I saw near me were acting in a particularly rude or disruptive manner, and yet we were treated with extreme rudeness by the staff. I ended up getting my coat after half an hour (a below-average wait time), and then I was waiting with my friends for our designated driver to get his coat. Despite the fact that many people were still waiting for coats, security seemed in a rush to empty out the place, so they told us that we needed to wait for our friend outside in sub-20 degree weather. I had to basically beg several staff members as I was ushered out the door before finding someone who would even let me tell our driver that we would be outside (we did not have phones with us). We didn't get out of the place until well after 3am--if we had taken the metro there we would have had to leave our coats behind. I understand that large crowds are hard to deal with and even expect there to be a long wait for coat check at the end of an event. It was the extreme rudeness by some of the staff members and forcing people to wait out in the cold which really angered me. I'll probably try to avoid this place in the future, and definitely in the winter. read more
