If I could give this place zero stars for this review, I would. Honestly, I have stayed at this Days Inn several times over the past thirty years, the last time was 6 years ago. Up until this last visit this past weekend in August, I found the place to be a great value for the money spent. Rooms were clean, and the common walkways and parking lot were also well kept and clean. However, this past weekend we were there for three nights and perhaps management has changed, but this was a different experience, all negative. First, the parking lot was strewn with cigarette butts as were the common walkways to get to the rooms. There was a strong smell of urine in the common walkway area, so bad that we had to hold our breath as we walked up the stairs to get to our room. Note that three nights at this place cost over $360. At one time smoking was allowed at this place but it became smoke-free a while back. Our room, though, smelled of stale cigarette smoke. It was a smoke-free room, but one could tell that the cigarette smoke had seeped into the walls and furniture. We had to buy two room fresheners to offset the smell, but it was still pretty awful. We tried to change rooms to the enclosed pool area, which had about 12 rooms that were separated from the outside room walkways. That pool area did not have that urine smell, but we were told all rooms were booked. We thought about cancelling the remaining nights and going to another place, but all the motels/hotels in the area were booked, so we were stuck. The condition of the room was less than desired. The carpets did not look (or feel) clean - we walked around in our flip-flops so our feet would not touch the floor. The bed spread had threads coming apart from it. We checked for bed bugs and found none, so that was a plus I suppose. The bathroom was very small, there were indented holes in the wall from the bathroom door handle hitting it over the years, and the walls were dirty and looked like they hadn't been painted in years. Suffice it to say we will never stay there (or at a Days Inn) in the future. read more

REPULSIVE!!! I really wish there was an option for zero stars. The hallways are open air yet still smell like urine and are littered with cigarettes butts. The room was FILTHY. The mattress had someone's hair all over it. There was dirt and a red sticky substance on the sheet and on top of the toilet seat. The thermostat and mirror were rusted the carpet was dingy. After what looked like possibly dead bugs on the comforter we wouldn't even put our dog down and we sat in our car to find another place to stay. After a full workday and driving 3 hours we still have ended up driving over an hour away to stay in Boston. Would rather spend a night sleeping in a jail cell then this place. I'm honestly SHOCKED this place isn't condemned. They did get us our money right back and the front desk staff member didn't give us any issues so the one star could go for that. If it were possible for me to give this hotel zero reviews, I definitely will, sadly yelp doesn't allow that, oh do I wish they did. Anyway, my family and I arrived at the hotel expecting a pretty decent experience, however, it wasn't long before it proved it would NOT be a so good experience. Upon arriving in the parking lot, we were already thrown off by the array of people smoking and hanging out, as though they lived at the hotel itself. Of course, that didn't mean that it was a bad place to stay, after all, it's not good to judge a book by its cover. However, entering our room, we were hit by not alone a foul smell of urine, but smoke as well, despite it being a "no smoking" room. Not to mention, using the key card for the first time, we immediately had issues, as the lock didn't seem very secure if I must be honest. After entering the room, it was clear that it wasn't as clean as it looked in the photos. The rug looked very old and dated, and the sheets as well. Even the furniture looked horribly stained. One desk chair was covered in black duck tape to cover the rips, holes, and how worn down it was. Next, the bathroom, which made us even more hesitant about staying the two nights we planned. The walls were cracked, and the overall bathroom looked dirty and stained. Yet, it wasn't until we pulled back the sheets, that we decided it was better off driving miles away to find a different place than staying. The sheets were stained with something read, whether it was ketchup, blood, or something else, we don't know. What we do know is that the overall room was dirty and the general environment felt unsafe. In the end, we ended up finding a different hotel that was clean and what we felt like, a safe neighborhood. For those that plan on staying here, please read all the reviews before booking, don't make your final decision based on photos alone, after all, photos can be deceiving. read more

I wish this review could include audio. 424pm, and the fine hotel permanent residents on one side are screaming at each other. On the other side is loud TV man, it never turns off. As an added treat we have dog guy above us. Dog guys has at least two very large dogs which run back and forth and bark. They are so big or so many that the ceiling shakes. Is this a welfare hotel? Do any of these people ever leave the hotel? we came back after a long day for a quick nap before dinner. Not remotely possible. Ive stayed in some sad, run down places by mistake over the years. If you like listening to barking dogs, yelling couples, loud constant tv, people lurking in parking lot at night, weird green broken pool, this is your jam. The staff was very nice, this isn't their fault. Run down places attract run down people. This is the Dove, NH rock bottom. Thankfully we get to leave tomorrow. read more

2.5 stars I think someone needs to be clear about what this is. The Days Inn Dover is a motel. It is not a hotel. Unless you are in one of the 10 rooms in the main building, you have a beautiful scenic view of the parking lot (if you are in the main building, your view is the indoor pool, which is also weird). The layout of the hotel is way sketchier than the actual rooms, which makes me think it was probably a disgusting motel retrofitted into a Days Inn. If you look on the hotel's website, it shows only the main building-- it almost feels like fraud. I'll upload photos when I get home so you can judge for yourself. (EDIT: photos added) The bathrooms are clean but old and very bare-bones. A tiny bar of soap and a miniature bottle of shampoo. That's it. No conditioner, no body wash, no hand lotion, etc. When we checked in, there were like 10 squares left on the toilet paper roll, with an extra roll left for us on the shelf, basically saying "here, do it yourself". Also our bathroom door didn't close-- so if you're not married to the person you're rooming with it might get kind of awkward. The room itself is small, with no closet (just a closet rod by the bathroom) and no overhead light (just 3 small lamps). This would be fine, except if you open the window blinds you are making yourself VERY public. So most hours of the day it feels pretty dark. Our bed squeaked A LOT but was pretty comfortable otherwise The walls are paper thin-- you can hear anything going on outside, especially the train that passes through town. They seem to have made an effort to make the hotel a little classy. Digital TV, decent free breakfast, clean rooms. That and the amazing location are the only things this place has going for it. That being said, it does have those things, it just needs a little fixing up (and maybe an enclosing building for the majority of the rooms). I think if I had to stay in Dover again, this place is worth the price. You can walk to everything and it's around $80/night, so even if the room was nothing but a bed and a toilet it would pretty much serve its purpose. However, I'm not sure if it would be worth it for most people-- if you will be driving a lot or aren't here just to spend time in Dover, find something nicer off the highway. Oh, and to the other reviewer that said she got to breakfast on the late side so the coffee was cold and there was no selection-- it wasn't the time you got there that was the problem. By most standards, it was a two-star hotel, but props to Manager Joy and a friendly staff making my stay impediment-free, so that's one reason for the bonus star. Everything was clean and tidy; bonus-star reason two. The location was freaking awesome! I could walk to everywhere the cool kids were hanging out, and I created a terrific 5K running route out my door. Final bonus-star reason is that I had a corner room in the executive building, so I had nice natural light. My A/C was a champ in the early Spring weather for quick cool downs. I didn't take advantage of the breakfast because the staff said they didn't offer fat-free milk. I had a kitchen, though, so I hit up the grocer next door and fed myself three tasty b'fasts for $15, with food to spare. Where's the fourth star? Renovations! read more

THIS HOTEL IS DOG FRIENDLY!!! It was our saving grace during a road trip. We found it online, and Mel did everything in his power to make our stay amazing! The rooms were very clean, and the beds were comfy. The layout was a tiny bit cramped, but not problematic at all. It was obvious that they took care of the facilities. Their parking lot is well kept as well. There's lots of green around for walking the dog too. The continental breakfast is delicious - they had omelettes (egg + cheese), sausage, bacon (thin and yummy!), French toast, pastries, bread for toast, muffins, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit... Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice. Pretty much anything you could want. It is all fresh and hot too, which is nice. We would definitely stay here if we were in the area again! read more

The location for was the best thing this hotel had going for it. Our AC did not work properly, making the humidity in the room high and the smell unpleasant. This was after we asked to be moved from upstairs because the rooms smelled so badly of cigarette smoke, even though it was prohibited. Even though it was a smoke free property, people simply stood on the balcony with their door open and smoked. Breakfast was bad. We were there for a week and could only stomach 3 days. The last day, my egg concoction was still frozen in the middle and didn't taste very good when it was hot. The first day we tried the hot tub, the bubbles were on and you don't realize when you step down that it is only a seat and not steps. Giant step down after that, making it dangerous and it was so hot, you couldn't stay in past a few minutes. The pool rail by the stairs was so wobbly, it felt like it was going to break off. The towels for the pool had a blue stripe and that was the only difference from the mini-towels in the rooms. I don't mind old and simple and don't need frills, but this was sub-standard on many levels. I didn't get a discounted price, so this was definitely not worth the price and just felt a step above a dive. The wi-fi was free but was not working, more often than it worked. Quaint place in Dover, NH. I stayed here for about $75/night in mid-April. The room was clean. No problems there. I can't really complain or rave about this place. No frills, but very solid choice, hence the 3 stars. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and down to earth. They also told me they had renovations recently, which was surprising because the buildings didn't look recently renovated. Continental breakfast consisted of apple, orange, cranberry juice, bagels, cooked eggs, toast, waffle maker, etc. Their wi-fi service is free, but complicated because they give you a scratcher with a password and is only valid for 24 hours. My boyfriend's band was playing a show at the Brickhouse in Dover this past weekend and we decided instead of battling sleep on a long ride back to Southie after the set, we'd stay and enjoy ourselves. At 80 dollars a room and this central location, you really can't beat the convenience. Was it the nicest room I've ever stayed in? Not really. Was it perfect for one night? Absolutely. Another reason why this place soars to 4 stars is because of the bed. Holy crap. Its really really comfortable. Our King sized bed had us rested and off to Vermont by the next morning. The pillows are amazing, the linens are nice (minus the grandma-esque comforter) and the mattress had a pillow top that made me wanna stay in bed past the 11 AM check out time. I doubt this will be the last Brickhouse show, and I doubt this will be the last time we get a room at the Days Inn in downtown Dover. read more

Unfortunately, for the price I paid for one room for one night, it was NOT worth staying at this location, no matter how "big" the room was (false advertisement of a King Suite, I may add) Many things went wrong with my booking and stay, including: *- My booking dates somehow were booked for a Friday when I clearly booked for a Saturday.... Which means the indoor room I was expecting to get placed in, turned into an outdoor room. *- The room was poorly cleaned, there was pink mold on the bathroom sink faucet and drain. Black mold on surfaces in the shower. *- The room was stuffy, dry, and smelled like stale smoke (non-smoking room) *- The refrigerator was non-functioning AT ALL The ONLY good thing about my experience was how polite the staff woman was to me while checking in. Other than that 2 minutes of my entire stay, I did not enjoy my time here at the Dover Days Inn and I will not be back to this location. I paid about double the amount of $ what I SHOULD of paid for the inconvenience alone, never mind how the room and property was. The wallpaper style & some decor shows the building's age, but for me it only added to the flair of staying in a hotel clearly built in the 60s-70s. I stayed here when I came up for my sister's wedding in July. The front desk people were all great and I received a call to make sure my room was fine. Nothing special in the room but the bed was good (softer than I'm used to) the free wifi is only for 24 hours and I didn't try to ask for another code card. My only complaint was the parking lot filled up on both nights by the time I returned and I had to park away from my room. The motel offers free continental breakfast which is nice if your watching your wallet but there are options close by and a short walk if you want to explore the town. There is an indoor pool and they mentioned a sauna near the office which I didn't have an opportunity to use. Overall, it was a good stay and would go there again if I just need a basic room for a short stay. read more

It's scary. There are no light switches when you first walk in. So it's pitch black until you find the lamps to turn on in the far corners of the room. It smells like an antique store. If you've ever seen the hulu show called The Act about Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard, it's almost the exact feeling of when Gypsy and Nick ran off after they murdered her mother. I went to make a reservation and visit a family member that was staying here also. I was in the parking lot and the general manager started screaming across the parking lot asking why I was there very rudely. As I was trying to explain what I was doing she cut me off mind you yelling across the parking lot telling me to get off the property and if I didnt she was calling the cops. I honestly have no clue what the issue was but it was very rude and upsetting. Plus having the whole parking lot and all the people staying there hear this go down. So everyone is staring. I just left I then called the front desk and got no help there either. This lady should leve her issues out side of her work place. She looked as if she was on a binder of all kinds of bad decisions. This place needs the help cleaned up and to be Professional about their jobs. This was no way to be or act. I will not stay here ever again. This place is horrendous. Just because it's 13 degrees outside doesn't make it acceptable for it to be 35 degrees in a hotel room. The heating system is completely useless. I was told "it may take a while" for it to warm up. Well, I waited an hour and was still freezing my pale yet shapely ass off. For the price this place charges, this is not acceptable. If they were charging $30/night, I'd say wtf, suck it up, throw on like 7 bubble jackets and thug my way through the night, but at their prices...? Hellllll naw! I thought that the price I'd been quoted must have been wrong when I saw how much space we had, but, no, it was just a really good deal. The staff is extremely friendly and capable, the room was clean, and the price was reasonable for the area and type of motel. This is not a hotel, it's a motel - majority of room doors open to the exterior, a select few open to the interior pool. Something that's good to know if you have kids and are staying in the winter. Makes for a very uncomfortable walk to / from the pool. Poolside is surrounded by uneven, slippery tile. In one sitting, my son fell twice and I saw others fall as well. None of which were running. Not a light sleeper, but woke up to/ heard three train whistles throughout the night. As did my kiddo. Add in the constant construction noise of trucks, backing up, and dumping (?)- who knows, but it was constant, making for zero chance of a restful night sleep- ON (a rare) VACATION. I'm not one to leave unfavorable reviews without having direct communication, but could not refrain from sharing my disappointment. I attempted to email management directly, but after a ten minute search could not find an appropriate contact. What you see is what you get--economy digs for a low cost. Probably I'd give this place four stars if we didn't have to wait outside for 10 minutes in the cold when we arrived. I can't fault the desk clerk--he was the only one on duty and had to do other things. But management might want to consider not over-economizing and having more than one person on duty. We had to wait for the clerk to return while we're standing outside at 10pm in the cold New Hampshire weather. The pool is nice and a hit with the kids. The rooms themselves are fairly spacious, though the bathrooms could use some updating. I probably won't come back unless I can get an interior room, though. We were outside, so it was cold getting to and from our room. Also, every musclehead in New England seemingly tramps by our room shouting at children or yelling into their cell phones when we're trying to sleep. I hated this place. The only good things i could think of here, was that the bed was comfy, and the front desk staff on check in was great. Super nice and helpful. However the whole time we were there, there were people right outside our door smoking and in their room. (i have asthma we always get non smoking rooms) i mean if you're a smoker thats your business, but don't be rude. THE WHOLE campus is NON SMOKING. The attendent at the front desk said that they were charged for smoking but they never came by to tell them to quit smoking out front of our door. The towel rack fell off the wall the first night there. NONE of the outlets worked except the one behind the bed. SO we had to move the bed to charge our phones. The AC unit was controlled by the thermostat even though it had a touch-pad on it. (?????) but whatever, we figured it out. But when my husband was looking it over trying to figure it out, he noticed the whole outlet was busted open and it was shifting around. FIRE HAZARD????!! So we notify the front desk. No attitude or anything, just hey the outlet is broken just so you know. He says he will get someone in the morning to fix it. Two days there and it was never fixed. The cable barely worked. I mean really you don't pay to stay there and watch TV but we were on vacation, we wanted to relax when we got back from our daily adventure and watch tv. But every five seconds the thing is freezing up. They're paying the cable company, They should call and get it fixed! And of course we had to keep the ac running because if we put it on the fan setting or turned it off the whole room reeked of cigarette smoke. Again, i have asthma, i try to avoid it, and i don't care if someone smokes but they were SERIOUSLY ONLY FIVE FEET AWAY. We chose this place because it was 'convenient' and had a pool. Well we didn't use the pool because it in an enclosed area with peoples rooms and windows right next to it. Which was just weird to begin with but, not that we make much noise but we didn't want to bother anyone while we talked or swam, and i really didn't like the idea of someone watching me swim. I didn't pay full price because i booked on a website, but the listed price for a king sized room is $185 a night! I would NEVER pay that much for this place. When we spoke to the front desk clerk in the morning with our concerns, she gave my husband and attitude and basically just didn't care. Well you got your money, and i won't be coming back. And i will make sure everyone i know realizes that this place is not the place to go. I could have spent maybe 75$ more and gone to another hotel. Find another place to stay!!!!! This cold, broken down place has lousy customer service on top of all the other issues we experienced. I made my reservation because we didn't want to stay with family and my son wanted to swim in the pool while we enjoyed the hot tub. Yeah NOT! BROKEN, no discount offered. We couldn't cancel without losing our $$$, our room was 50 degrees when we entered. It took hours to warm up and the floors never did. The tub was dirty. I went to get ice, BROKEN too. No offer to go purchase some for us just a lame, sorry. Then the maid wakes us up cleaning the room next door at an ungodly early time. I am from NY and I enjoyed my stay at the Days Inn in Dover. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is pretty limited, but still good. However, the woman at the front desk was extremely miserable and made me want to switch hotels as soon as I walked in. I wouldn't be surprised if she scared customers away frequently, she is one of the rudest people I've run into in my stay in the state of NH. Location is great! My experience was not. I arrived after a late flight in from Boston. I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 am. I am handicapped and was disappointed to see that there three uneven steps to get to the Lobby. After navigating the steps. An unruly clerk offered to bring my bags up to the second floor (no elevators in the whole place)! But not my chair. Being a single woman, I declined his offer, he wanted me to go back outside and put a parking sticker in my car and then climb the three steps again. I left all my luggage in the car and with great difficulty dragged my wheelchair unaided up to the second floor! The first thing I did when entering the room was to throw up because I was so tired and upset.I had a fit filled night of sleep even though the bed was very comfortable. When leaving the hotel, I had to drag my wheelchair down the stairs in the middle of the lobby. Thankfully a male customer offer help and took my chair down for me. This hotel is good for a night after partying, but horrible if you are disabled! read more

Based on the reviews on their website, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This "hotel" is more of an old motel spruced up to qualify as a Days Inn. I don't mind this, just not what I was expecting. I believe the lady I met upon checking in, Joy, is the owner. She is very pleasant. Upon getting to my room I noticed that the door wasn't closed so I waited for about 20 minutes before entering, figuring they were still cleaning. When I saw no activity I entered the room. Someone should have still been cleaning. Pillows were on the floor while clean pillowcases were on the table (this was no big deal), then I noticed the garbage cans had not been emptied (again no big deal). My big surprise came in the morning when I went to shower and found an old bar of soap, hair and dirt in the shower. I went to the front desk and the woman I spoke to said she.would get someone to clean it "sometime today". I asked if it could be cleaned immediately so that I could shower. Her response was just a blank stare. Luckily one of the womwn that do the laundry was there and said she'd take care of it right away, and she did as promised. The only thing she left was cobwebs in every corner of the bathroom (again, no big deal to me) showing the lack of thoroughness of cleaning. The continental breakfast was good. Typical Days Inn breakfast. Staff was friendly. Location is great. Only downside is cleanliness. read more

I work in Dover and during the winter often need to spend the night in the Portsmouth area. Last year, I was lucky to find the Days Inn. It is true that this Days Inn is a motel and not a hotel and that the rooms are rather plain. However, the location is very convenient, the hotel is clean, the small pool and hot tub are very nice, and the staff - especially Joy the manager, is caring and friendly. As a woman traveling alone, I felt especially welcome and cared for there. Once, I was upgraded to an executive suite which was spacious with bed, sitting area and full kitchen.
