the majority of the rooms are in the back, motel-style

2.5 stars I think someone needs to be clear about what this is. The Days Inn Dover is a motel. It is not a hotel. Unless you are in one of the 10 rooms in the main building, you have a beautiful scenic view of the parking lot (if you are in the main building, your view is the indoor pool, which is also weird). The layout of the hotel is way sketchier than the actual rooms, which makes me think it was probably a disgusting motel retrofitted into a Days Inn. If you look on the hotel's website, it shows only the main building-- it almost feels like fraud. I'll upload photos when I get home so you can judge for yourself. (EDIT: photos added) The bathrooms are clean but old and very bare-bones. A tiny bar of soap and a miniature bottle of shampoo. That's it. No conditioner, no body wash, no hand lotion, etc. When we checked in, there were like 10 squares left on the toilet paper roll, with an extra roll left for us on the shelf, basically saying "here, do it yourself". Also our bathroom door didn't close-- so if you're not married to the person you're rooming with it might get kind of awkward. The room itself is small, with no closet (just a closet rod by the bathroom) and no overhead light (just 3 small lamps). This would be fine, except if you open the window blinds you are making yourself VERY public. So most hours of the day it feels pretty dark. Our bed squeaked A LOT but was pretty comfortable otherwise The walls are paper thin-- you can hear anything going on outside, especially the train that passes through town. They seem to have made an effort to make the hotel a little classy. Digital TV, decent free breakfast, clean rooms. That and the amazing location are the only things this place has going for it. That being said, it does have those things, it just needs a little fixing up (and maybe an enclosing building for the majority of the rooms). I think if I had to stay in Dover again, this place is worth the price. You can walk to everything and it's around $80/night, so even if the room was nothing but a bed and a toilet it would pretty much serve its purpose. However, I'm not sure if it would be worth it for most people-- if you will be driving a lot or aren't here just to spend time in Dover, find something nicer off the highway. Oh, and to the other reviewer that said she got to breakfast on the late side so the coffee was cold and there was no selection-- it wasn't the time you got there that was the problem. It was the same way at 7:30

The room was heavily deodorized to mask a problem. The applied scent bothered me. Luckily the windows could be opened (but only a crack). The true issue was with a mold issue that I couldn't see but could smell. I also got flu-like symptoms from it. The paint on the doors inside the room was sticky to touch too. I could hear traffic on the busy road near my room. Finally, the breakfast was lousy. The oatmeal was undercooked with a slimy liquid. Very disgusting. Box eggs and cheap salty sausage. The best thing was the prefab tater tots. I see that a fellow Yelper complained about a mildew smell 12 years ago!! So this issue has been ongoing. I learned that the night social only happens at this location on Wednesday nights. Final word, I wanted to make my own pancakes from scratch in my room until I saw the frying pan that the hotel provided in the room. Burnt, scratched nonstick pan. I would never use that pan. See photo!

However the pictures were beautiful here and really impulsively booked it before reading comments. Anyways we were nervous almost backed out after reading them the night before our stay BUT we checked it out and loved it! The rooms are so clean and comfortable. It didn't smell which is always a plus. The bathroom was clean as well, and water was hot The beds were white, which is a must for me and comfortable. The staff were very kind. The continental breakfast was nice nothing insane but many options to grab muffins fruit bagels cereal and more! Even uncrustables pb&J for this kids. You can eat your breakfast outside and it was beautiful. Birds and trees. Upstairs the view we have is beautiful as well Spacious fridge with freezer and actually cold inside ! Pool is great and open 7a-10p We came here for a gymnastics camp at UNH right down the street and Dunkin' Donuts and CVS is in the plaza the hotel is in. A two minute walk. Anyways there's so many negative comments recently that I felt the need to assure others that this hotel is up there with there with the Marriotts and much more affordable We had room 207 and are here another two nights! I mean how is that even possible? Though we were somewhat comfortable in the tiny room, I was surprised that there wasn't even a refrigerator, though that may have been an error on our part in not reading the fine print. I felt the dark wall colors made this super small room seem claustrophobic and the room length mirror behind the bed was clearly outdated and a bit porn star trashy. See the photo for proof LOL The fitted sheet and mattress cover was too small for the large profile mattress making us wrap up like mummies by the morning which is kind of gross. I understand that COVID may be to blame for some of this but just an FYI. The elevator was also quite dirty and it's amazing that our price was $65 MORE per night than the place across the street which had a living room attached as well which we had stayed at last year.

This will be my fifth stay at the Garrison, which I have selected because of its close location to my sister's family home in Dover. The hotel has consistently proved to be a good choice. The room was clean, well-furnished, and quiet throughout my stay. The front staff members were alert, helpful, and easy to understand. There are an indoor pool and a fitness center, and a grab-and-go breakfast was offered (although I had an early departure, so I declined the offer). Making and confirming the reservation was seamless and problem-free.

The cleaning staff so friendly and kind - especially the man with the tattoos. Reception was super friendly and helpful. She ran up a new key card for me. There seems to be an issue with the cards losing their magnetic codes, but that's pretty normal. The kitchen/breakfast attendant was above and beyond. She was so gracious when dealing with a family with a messy baby and toddler. The family did a good cleanup, but she let them feel that they weren't a burden and did the left over cleanup and seemed genuinely cool with it all. So this wasn't my baby, but you know the vibes all round make you feel good. She deserves a raise! There are long term guests living there, but I don't feel uncomfortable around working class people or poor folk, coming from that socio-economic bracket originally myself. No issue with bed bugs at all and I'm a New Yorker so I'm experienced with those buggers. Amazing staff, comfortable room, great location, inexpensive, next to Sol Yoga (95 degree y'all!), great neighborhoods for a jog, great Thai food at Thai Taste- 5 minutes drive away, clean and warm enough pool. FANTASTIC stay!

This year, I booked one night - $226 (?????) and it was atrocious start to finish. We arrived and apparently the power was out - whatever, not their fault. However the kid working the front desk was on another planet. He asked me to put my card in and pay, but then it didn't work because the power was out, so then he told me to take a picture of his computer screen? Apparently my card was charged even though he didn't tell me? Check-in was at 3:00. We arrived at 3:30, and the room wasn't ready until 4:30. When it finally was, it was disgusting. Mud on the bathroom floor, pubes in the bed and on the rug, toilet paper stuffed into the peep hole? What the hell is going on here? The power finally was on when we came back from dinner. We didn't think it would be back because the staff was so nonchalant about the power being out. There was no urgency, no care that it was happening? But we weren't offered anything. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I'm sort of amazed they didn't offer a discount or anything at all. The pool was down for "Maintenance," the entire place smelled atrocious.
