Luckily La Gare was open. It was moderately busy and relatively quiet when we entered, then two very loud tables entered along with kids who did laps around the cafe - not the cafe's fault, but not pleasant either way! Anyways, back to the food and drink. The coffees were very good, and the food, once it came (there was a bit of a mishap in communicating the order to the chef, we were told), was okay. Pretty standard Dutch fare. They apologized massively for the delay with the food and offered us free coffees. The free coffees plus the departure of the old tables and running children were very welcomed. Don't seek it out but if you're in the neighborhood and need to make a pit stop, go for it.

The cafe recently opened near the Hoofddorplein and is already getting very popular with the locals. I totally get why, since Bert makes a delicious coffee and is also a very cool guy who is in for a little chat. The good reputation of their Antwerp location also does not hurt at all. Antwerp location? Well yes, Caffènation is a much loved coffeeshop in Antwerp. We are very lucky that Bert fell in serious love with a Dutch girl because that is what brought him here! And now he owns the Caffènation location here in Ansterdam. Cool stuff right? Coffee lovers will really enjoy the big drinks menu at this place which offers a lot of different choices like cappuccino and espresso but also more adventurous drinks like a 'Ginger Spice' or a 'Bitter Moon'. Last few times I went with a flat white (like usual, they are my favorite!) and that tasted great. The space is quite big and has a lot of cosy spots to sit. In this super unassuming gym center, there is a café where you can get awesome food! When I initially was told to meet some friends at this café, I wasn't sure if I was going to be eating Chocolate Chunk Power Bars with a side of lean Vanilla Protein Shake or having a bland saltless combination of steamed broccoli and baked chicken breast sure to help rebuild torn muscle tissues after a hard work out. What I didn't know, was that I would be eating some delish food! The menu is a typical dutch menu: kip sate, pastas, broodjes... yeah, if you've been to one, you've been to them all.
