Juicy ribeye steak and crispy fries.
    James J.

After driving for 5-1/2 hours, my wife and I crossed the West Virginia border and decided to stop into Dawg Pound for dinner. We've always enjoyed finding places like this in our various travels because it offers a good idea of what the local community is like. After deciding on a table we were greeted quickly by our server and was told of the daily specials. One of the specials on the day we stopped in, June 8, was the Ribeye Steak Dinner for $11.99. It piqued our curiosity but we decided to review the menu anyway. The menu was typical bar style food, with a couple of exceptions like Fried Bologna Sandwich and Deep-Fried Oreos, but had some tempting options. Nonetheless, we both decided to order the Ribeye Steak Dinner and hoped for the best because steak specials are usually not spectacular. Our food arrived quickly and the steaks were cooked exactly as requested with my mine being medium and my wife's being well done. This was a good start. The next test would be when we cut through them to see how tender or tough they were. As we began to cut them open we both looked at each other in surprise as to how tender they were. So far, so good. At this point, even if the steaks had been bland we could overcome the blandness with pepper or some sort of steak seasoning they might have had. However, these steaks were juicy, seasoned nicely, and had a great flavor. As a result, any apprehension we may have had regarding ordering the steak specials were now put to rest. Our attention then turned to the fries that were served with the ribeye. These fries were crispy, which is how I love my fries to be served, and weren't greasy. The tasty steak in conjunction with the crispy fries were a dinner win-win for my wife and I. During our dinner our server, and a gentlemen we believe to have been the owner, checked on us several times and made sure our glasses were kept full. I don't know if/when my wife and I will ever be through the Ravenswood, WV area again but if we are we will stop into Dawg Pound once again. We would recommend Dawg Pound to anyone that may be in the Ravenswood, WV area.

looks like a hole in the wall but is huge and clean inside. Service can be slow because it is cooked to order. The food was great.

I'm leaving no stars because the food is overpriced and frozen. I don't care how desperate I am for food I will never eat here again!

Bruno's Spotted Hare is fantastic…read more I stopped by recently with a family member while visiting, having heard good initial things about this restaurant. The space is gorgeous; it has the dark coziness of a lodge with beautiful, wild-inspired accents. We were seated in a booth near the window: the booth was comfortable but may be a tight squeeze if two larger adults are sitting on the same side (I'd recommend asking for a table in that case). I started off with an American Trilogy cocktail and loved it; it was surprisingly smooth and easy to drink while being flavorful. We debated appetizer options but went with the sourdough bread and butters. The butters were rosemary, garlic, and sorghum, and while all were great, the sorghum was a favorite. The bread was flavorful and nicely chewy. I'm always happy to see a vegetarian-friendly soup on a menu, so I ordered the beans and greens soup and loved it. It has a very deep flavor, yet the beans weren't overly mushy. The server (who was amazing) recommended some Tabasco for adding heat, which I enjoyed. For entrées, my dining partner got the fried chicken on the server's recommendation, and I got the mushroom pasta. The fried chicken was described by my relative as a crunchy coating with a moist meat; they called it "the best fried chicken" they've had. I tasted the mashed potatoes and can happily vouch for them, as they were creamy and perfectly seasoned. My dining partner raved about the home-style green beans, too. My mushroom pasta was fantastic. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and were flavorful without being slimy or mushy. The pasta was hearty and cooked al dente. As a pleasant surprise. I got a couple slices of bread with my pasta, too; this time topped with some cheese and seasoning. It was perfect for soaking up the last bits of pasta sauce, as I cleaned my plate. I got dessert to go; it was the cornmeal pound cake and packaged conveniently (with the ice cream separate). It was delicious even at home; the cake itself wasn't too sweet, meaning that the combination of it, the ice cream, and the honey had a perfect balance of flavor. I will try to make a special trip here whenever I'm in the area. It's a beautiful, special addition to the local dining scene.
