Cowboy burger (hold the bun) at Butcher Block, Millwood
    Bruce K.

We had a lovely dinner here, sitting inside on a hot day and being well cared for by the staff. It didn't get too busy until it was time for us to go, so the dining room wasn't super loud until then. The definitely need some noise baffles with lots of bare walls and bare ceiling. Mrs. K. went with the night's special, a piece of flounder stuffed with crab. It came with an oddly deconstructed Caesar salad and a small pot of mashed potatoes. The potatoes were meh but the flounder was excellent. Light and delicious and perfectly cooked. Cowboy burger for me was a half pound of beef cooked medium (I'd have prefered more rare) with smoked gouda and a bacon jalapeno jam. The onion rings with it were absolute perfection. Overall, a good meal. I'd return to Butcher Block. The next time, tweaking a few little things but otherwise, great. [Review 589 of 2025 - 172 in West Virginia - 24150 overall]

The Club Sandwich with Sweet Potatoe Fries

Tony and I have been saying for months, "We got to try that place!" Well, today was the day! Tony worked to 2am the night before and slept til 1pm, so this meal was very late lunch & very early dinner. So we headed over to Millwood, and we were pleasantly surprised! We were greeted and seated immediately *just wished they had asked us if we wanted the bar area? We were seated in the main dining room area. Our waitress was lovely! She was extremely over-utilized, she had way too many tables and customers. It was about 230 when we got there and left about 415pm. My only complaint, our waitress could have managed her job and station more quickly if she had had some help. There was 3-4 other employees meandering around the room and even a supervisor he came to our table to see if we were good. But, not one jumped in to help her. She had 2 tables of 2, a table of 4, a table of 6 plus a high chair and a table of eight finishing up. She did a fabulous job. This was our first trip here! I'm highly impressed with the interior design, a music was a little all over the place and the heavy metal was totally out of place..unless you want the honky tonk biker bar take-over feel. I loved my waitress but she didn't give me her name or the receipt copy with her name on it. But, we were there Saturday 1-4-2025, my hubby had a PBR Sweatshirt on and ordered a PBR to drink and I got unsweetened tea With lemon-lime! We ordered to share our food! I went with Club Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries and Tony ordered Mushroom and Swiss Burger Medium Rare with French Fries. We love it when our food takes 20 minutes or longer cause we know it wasn't sitting back there pre-made and heated up! The food visually was A++++++ OMG the Mushroom Swiss Burger was Killer. With the caramelized onions & mushrooms you didn't need any additional sauce for the sandwich. I have issue with Greasy Burgers and this Burger was Perfection on a Brioche Bun!! The fries are served in little fry baskets *adorable touch, the regular fries have the chunky sea salt & fresh black pepper another A++++ touch The Club Sandwich was almost too beautiful to disturb! It was Devine! Everything was so fresh at each bite. The Sweet Potatoe Fries were delicious, I would have preferred a ranch dipping sauce but our waitress was extremely busy, and they were very good without a dip! They gave us a hard butter cinnamon dip but it was not very appealing! Everything was great!! Definitely 5 Stars across the board. Even though she was overloaded, she still stopped by to check on drink Refills, napkins and needs. I highly recommend!! Truthfully too pricey on the steaks and Dinner Entrees..but the Lunch menu is on point! $29.99 for 6oz Steak Dinner is too high when you can go to Parkersburg to Texas and get the same for $13.99! I just couldn't justify that, Sorry!!! Our check was $37 rounded up with taxes, left $44.00 to cover her tip! Definitely going back!!

First impression of the inside of the restaurant was great...kind of like speakeasy vibes, cool decor, dark. We were greeted by the water waiter who offered us three types of water to choose from. Waitress came over and took our orders. First thing to come out was the Waygu Beef Carpaccio. I took a pic of it but it didn't save to my phone for some reason but it was a solid 10/10. That garlic horseradish aioli was amazing. Secondly, my dad's meal came with a salad, he chose ceasar which might have had the best croutons on it that I've ever had. Bread was also served which was a sourdough, I believe, with 2 butter options (regular and garlic) and an olive oil. Very good. Dad's meal was the 14 oz bone in ribeye with a one pound loaded potato. He said all was very good. For my meal, I got the Cajun cream pasta with steak. It was perfection. There is nothing bad I can say about this dish other than I didn't think it was spicy at all. Didn't matter though because the flavor was great. With the Father's Day special, dads got a dessert and an old fashioned with their meal as well. For dessert, he got the lemon blueberry cheesecake. I took a bite of it and it was so good. The reason I didn't give this experience 5/5 stars is because the service was lacking. Typically, I factor in if the restaurant is busy. I'll start by saying, they were not busy. Out of the 13 or so tables, 6 were occupied including us. Our waitress maybe had us and another table she was waiting on. The waitress was very nice but I had to ask for items a couple times. Bread, drink refills, etc. The water waiter filled our drinks many times and then he stopped coming around. I asked the waitress for refills on our drinks and ended up having to remind her. I know technically it was the water waiters job so I'm not faulting her entirely because she did end up being the one to fill our glasses. At the end, she did tell us it was one of her first nights there so then we understood some of the hiccups. Again, very nice and certainly not a horrible waitress. She did great for the most part. We will definitely be back to try more menu items. Highly recommend- go try it out. Enjoy some food pics I took.

Our Saturday was busy, he mowed most of the day and after errands I joined my 2 beautiful nieces from Charleston at the Ripley Pool!! We definitely had some fun in the sun!! Instead of cooking out, which was our original plan, we decided to go to the Fairplains Yacht Club and arrived about 6pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes, so I went to the bar and purchased him a Budweiser in a bottle. They were out of PBR due to strike at the Beverage delivering company! I had to purchase it there, due to fact they can't transfer to the table. Our waitress was Erin, she is so nice, sweet and attentive! Tony already had his bar beer, so I ordered a Half-Cut Tea w Lemon & Lime! Tony went with the Half Rack of Smoked Ribs with a Baked Potato w Butter & Sour Cream & Wilbur Beans *Baked Beans w Pulled Pork Bits Baked in it! (Very delicious )it also came with a roll... I ordered 6 Bone-In Smoked Wings w a side of Buffalo Ranch for dipping and also Blue Cheese for me and Ranch for Tony! We only had to wait about 20 minutes, so we chatted (which is hard due to noise level) and people hilarious The food was amazing!! Not a fan of Roll, its reheated in microwave so very hard and rubbery after about 6 minutes, they should be kept in warming oven or something...it was undesirable!! But hey, not judging whole meal on just that rubber ball !! The Ribs were amazing and a generous portion! I took a small section for myself and gave him 3 of my 6 wings. I also took a bite or 4 of his amazing Wilbur Beans...they are KILLER!! The Baked Potato was so delicious so I took about 1/3 of the potato and wish I had ordered my own, but my appetite is so crappy lately!! I hate to waste food and over order!! We are definitely going back! Highly recommend and if you are there on Saturday evening after 5pm...the Ribs are simply devine!!! Our check was $42 w taxes and all and left her 23% tip...it was a great relaxing dinner at the Yacht Club w cold beer and delicious food with OUTSTANDING Service from Erin!

I'll give you 20 top reasons this is why I believe this is Ohios best steak house : 1. Darren welcomes you with such casual hospitality that five minutes after sitting down you start wondering if you've accidentally been adopted. 2. The Scioto Ribber is so unpretentious that if a New York food critic walked in wearing a $3,000 suit, the steak would still be the most impressive thing in the room. 3. Some steakhouses sell atmosphere. The Ribber sells steak and lets the atmosphere happen naturally. 4. The menu has less ego than most restaurant owners. 5. The steak arrives looking like it just won a bar fight and a beauty contest on the same day. 6. Every bite tastes like somebody figured out how to barbecue a memory. 7. The char-smoked flavor is so unique that if you served it blindfolded, half the table would think they were eating at a ranch in Montana and the other half would think they died and went to beef heaven. 8. Fancy steakhouses spend millions trying to create authenticity. The Ribber accidentally has it. 9. The wait staff are professionals disguised as neighbors. 10. The service is so genuine that when they ask how you're doing, it feels like they actually want the answer. 11. Other restaurants train employees. The Ribber seems to raise them correctly. 12. The place has more Ohio character than a Reds game, a church festival, and a Fourth of July parade combined. 13. Some restaurants are experiences. The Ribber is an institution with mashed potatoes. 14. You don't leave feeling like a customer. You leave feeling like you attended a family reunion where everybody liked you. 15. The steaks aren't cooked. They're respectfully introduced to fire. 16. The outdoor wood-fired grill does things to beef that should probably require a permit. 17. If a steak could earn a blue-collar PhD, this would be it. 18. The flavor isn't subtle. It walks up, shakes your hand, and tells you exactly where it came from. 19. Most restaurants want to impress you. The Ribber doesn't care. That's why it does. 20. The value is so good that halfway through dinner you start looking around for hidden cameras because surely somebody forgot to charge enough. Bonus Five : 21. Darren runs the place with such affection and quiet pride that you get the feeling he'd rather lose money than let a guest have a mediocre meal. 22. In an era where every restaurant wants to reinvent dining, the Scioto Ribber has spent decades perfecting the radical idea of serving great food by great people. 23. The steaks have more smoke than a political debate but leave a far better taste in your mouth. 24. This isn't just Portsmouth history. It's Ohio history with a baked potato. 25. The Scioto Ribber proves that you don't need valet parking, mood lighting, imported marble, or a sommelier named Sebastian. Sometimes all you need is wood fire, great beef, hardworking people, and an owner who treats guests like family. The two blonds behind the bar are so sharp that hemophiliacs have to file a restraining order The Scioto Ribber is what happens when Americana, hospitality, common sense, and a wood-fired grill get together and decide to show the rest of the restaurant industry how it's done.

That's one of the highlights of this place - that it is predictable and consistent. I do appreciate the flexibility on customization and changes to sides. French onion soup was surprisingly good. One of our party got the shrimp and lobster chowder which she loved. Bread always comes out fresh and warm. My shrimp were well cooked but almost too salty. Broccoli slightly overdone so it was near squishy. Fries were great. Lots of sweet potato's and baked potato's in our group - all were devoured. There was a mistake/oversight on our order which the server remedied proactively so that was excellent. If i could give 3.5 stars I would. For casual places in its category for compare, I would give it 4 stars.
