My sister and I were passing through Crockett and decided to stop at Davy Crockett Grill. As we were walking up to the restaurant I stop a couple leaving and asked what was good to eat there. She told me everything was good. We walked inside and the staff told us we could sit wherever we wanted. Our waitress came over and was very nice and chatted with us for a bit. We told her we're passing through and our reason for being in Groveton. She gave two referrals for attorneys and that's just what we needed. I wish I could remember our waitress's name. As far as the food, everything was delicious. They give complimentary fried pork rinds that are made in house. We had two boats of them and got a bag to take home. My sister and I both ordered the fried catfish and fries. Great flavor and not greasy. I would recommend Davy Crockett Grill to anyone. read more

Cool little place in a cool little town! Came in late on a Friday night just driving through town and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Everyone was friendly and our waitress offered menu recommendations as well. I went with the burger recommendation and it was delicious. A little hard/messy to eat but very flavorful. Fun surprise was the order of pork rinds that they brought to our table after we ordered drinks. According to signage, they are made in house and they were delicious! I haven't given a review in a while, but this place warrants one andFirst they charge .50 cents for water which is not on the menu. Then we were charged $1 for onion rings when the menu gave us the choice between onion rings or fries. The waitress didn't feel it necessary to tell us of these charges before hand. The manager just said prices change. The waitress took the water charge off, but the manager refused to take the $1 charge off. The sad part is, had we been informed at the time of ordering about the $1 charge, we still would have ordered them; but these deceptive practices don't fly. These types of practices are getting more and more prevalent since 2020. We always check our bill carefully. Now the food. I had the "deep fried" hot dog with fries. The deep fried part apparently happens during prep time in the kitchen because the hot dog was cold. I ate it anyway because the dog itself was tasty and how much more if it was freshly deep fried. The fries seemed to be an afterthought because they were not fully cooked and still hard inside although they were hot just not left in long enough. Husband had the Philly cheesesteak with the overcharged onion rings. The onion rings were tasty but undercooked like the fries. The cheesesteak was just okay. The service was good except for the deception on the prices. because of this we took the $1 off the tip to reimburse ourselves. The server told us the menu says prices can change. In reviewing the menu, at the bottom on the back of the menu in a color obscuring the ability of your eyes to read it, reads: Prices subject to change without notice. Once ordered you are responsible for payment." How do you like that statement? Basically none of the prices are what they seem. Unreal. I can't recommend the place because of mediocre food and price deception. Be very aware. A lot of restaurants have taken up charging small extra charges for things without the customer's knowledge. It may seem minuscule in the amount, but think about how much money is stolen over the year with all these little "extra" charges. read more

My wife and I were in town for business and stopped here for a late lunch. I was starving and intended to order an appetizer. Boy was I surprised when they brought complimentary fried pork skins with our drinks! They were excellent! Some had spice and some didn't. (It kind of reminded me of plain potato chips vs. barbeque potato chips.) I found out later that they make them in house fresh daily. The drinks came in large cups and were kept full. It has a sports bar atmosphere with ample TV's to ensure everyone has a good view of the game. I was really glad to find some rodeo competitions, which you can rarely find at most sports bars. They have high tables, booths, and a bar. We sat at a high table and the chairs were nice and comfy. The dining area was clean. The menu offers a good selection of comfort food, including chicken fried steak. I had the ribeye quesadilla and my wife had the taco salad. Both dishes were served hot and fresh. The portion sizes are generous. My quesadilla was full, no skimping on ingredients! It was served with three different sauces. My wife couldn't finish her salad it was so big. Both were very tasty. I'll eat here again when I go back. We tried the bananas foster cheesecake for dessert. Yummy! It was served at the right temperature and had big chunks of banana in it. They also serve Italian creme cake, which you can't find very often. The service was prompt and the servers attentive. She even smiled! I recommend this place. This place is really awesome. They greet you with homemade pork rinds at the bar. I have tried the fried fish, chicken tenders, and cheeseburger meals and they are all great. The last time I went I ordered the ribeye steak. I was told that the meat is aged for 35 days and all steaks are hand cut. The steak was cooked perfectly and was at least 16 ounces of tenderness. There are so many great meals to choose from. I travel through Texas every month and this has been a regular stop for me. Try it out. It's all good and the staff is very friendly. read more

When the waitress just assumes you'll have sweet tea, you know you're in the country, down south. :-) I'm car camping over at Mission Tejas State Park, so with no kitchen of my own, eating out will be the soup de jour. The bar tender's counting out the till from last night, with the lone regular gray-haired guy having a beer at 11am. The waitress comes back with my water and lemon and I'm delighted that they have the 'good ice.' I'll have the single Davy with cheese, fries, 'and all the good stuff' (typical burger veggies, mustard, no mayo). I'm obviously the only dine-in customer so far today, as I hear the fryer sizzling in the back with what I assume are my French fries. Just about the right amount of time later, she comes back with my plate. "Single Davy, with cheddar, no mustard!' She announces. 'No mayo,' I reply 'Fuck!' She says. She snatched the plate back and rushes it to the kitchen, returning with an apology about the language and the mishap on the order. We share a story about her dislike of eggs and my dislike of mayo. (Hubby's first time cooking for me was a surprise breakfast: an egg sandwich with a healthy dose of mayo. I choked it down; we've been married happily, for seven years) The plate returns, sans mayo, and I dive right in, pleasantly surprised by the pickles (of all things!): rather than traditional rounds, they're planks. Overall, the burger is what's you hope for:tasty, hot, delicious! As I leave, I notice they have a 'not on the menu' menu- so keep your eyes open for the small blackboard with a few additional offerings. But, really? Have the hamburger. You can't go wrong. If you are looking for a dive, that houses some of the best food and some pork skins that will ever grace your lips look no further. Was really happily wrong on what to expect here and can't wait to come back a few times. My wife says her drink was weaker than she would have liked, but honestly, I know if it were a real issue they would have fixed it for her. The salad was good-cold crisp greens, diced tomatoes and cheese with a good ranch dressing. The chicken fried steak arrived and looked very appealing. However, it turned to be the toughest piece of shoe leather we have ever experienced. Potatoes were ok. Gravy good and very hot. We could not eat our steaks. Both ate the crust and left the meat. The meat appeared to have missed the blades of the tenderizer. Since our party had already chosen Davy Crocket for dinner, we wanted to see for ourselves. The outside marquee no longer says LET'S GO BRANDON but there are Trump flags and decor towards the back of the restaurant. I don't know if it was for sale or display but it was in seriously bad taste for the restaurant. First stop: The restroom. They only had air driers so I had to open the door using the nasty doorknob without using a disposable paper towel. Ordering. The place was pretty busy for a Saturday night and it appeared that they were short staffed, based on unusually long wait for food to be served. The food was amazingly good and quantities were good. The prices were decent considering this. The atmosphere was simple, basic but not very memorable. When we ordered, I asked for separate checks. At the end of the meal, the check comes but it was not separated. The server corrected it after a couple of tries to get it right. As we were leaving, there were several tables that needed to be bussed. Again, probably the result of short staffing. Overall, not too bad of a dining experience but I would not eat there again simply because of the Trump decor. Based on previous reviews for the past few years by other customers, this is not a problem for the owners so I'll just take my business elsewhere. read more

We've been coming to the Davy Crockett Grill for a couple years. The food is the highest quality. The drinks hit the spot. The owners are just salt of the earth type people. The owners have very high expectations with regard to quality food. My brother almost always gets the catfish. The pork steak is amazing. The wings rock! If you like garlic Parmesan get the ones with the sauce. Unreal! If you like salads this place rocks. I've had several of the signature salads and just the side salad really hits the spot.
