Just had my first appointment and cannot say enough great things about this facility. From my…read morefirst phone call to meeting the Doctor everything went smoothly. I was in serious pain and was seen on the same day I made the call, that in itself is amazing. Upon arrival, the staff was professional and very concerned about my condition. They listened closely as I described my ailment and told me everything that they were doing. When Dr. Blake came in I was very nervous and she recognized my heighten state. She took her time examining me and throughout the process she remained very calm and explained what she was doing. She gave me her diagnosis along with a follow-up treatment plan. The staff then proceeded to take care of all the follow-up appointments needed, from booking my MRI to calling my PCP to get prior approval. That has never happened to me with any other Doctor's office. Usually I'm the one making all the calls. I wish I could give Boston Pain Specialist a perfect 10 but 5 is the highest on Yelp. I totally recommend them if you are looking for caring and professional people.

I had a very concerning experience at Winchester Hospital when I brought my mother in with…read moreextremely high blood pressure (202/87). Upon arrival, they performed an EKG, X-rays, and blood work--but then left her sitting in the waiting room for over 8 hours without treatment or monitoring. Given her condition, this was alarming and felt unsafe. When we were finally brought to a room, we were seen by a nurse practitioner who, while polite, informed us we would not be seeing a physician as he had 12 years experience. After additional blood work, he returned and said she would be discharged if she could walk. A staff member walked her for approximately 10 seconds and cleared her. I specifically asked why she was being discharged with blood pressure still over 200, and was told she was "fine" and that her primary care doctor would need to manage it. This response was both dismissive and deeply concerning given the potential severity of hypertensive crisis. The lack of urgency, minimal evaluation before discharge, and dismissal of a dangerously high blood pressure reading left us feeling frustrated and worried for her safety. I would not expect this level of care--or lack thereof--from a hospital in a serious situation.

I will start by saying the nursing staff was 11/10 amazing! Fully medically knowledgeable,…read morereliable, personable, and resourceful. I could not have asked for a better experience with them all. However, EVERY SINGLE DOCTOR was awful. They could not maintain basic conversation or understand basic concepts. I had to project manage my mother's care. My mother hit her head from a seizure (as she has diagnosed epilepsy) and had a bruise on her forehead. The doctor asked how she got the bruise. We said from the seizure and he said "seizures do not cause bruising", absolutely unable to understand a concept that someone may hit their head while convulsing. Every doctor was as arrogant and condescending, with no medical knowledge to back it up. One doctor was trying to convince me she was not having seizures, but "sun downing" despite her convulsions and 20+ year epilepsy records. How any of them passed medical school is beyond me.

So, I would have given Encompass Health Rehab Hospital 5 stars because they were amazing when I was…read morethere for two weeks in October. You won't find more caring doctors and nurses. Honesly. I continued with Encompass Home Health when I got home -- and til the pandemic, I was crazy about both my Physical Therapist and my Occupational Therapist, both from Encompass. Then, when the world shut down and we were told to stay home, I asked for teletherapy. And, that's where the problems began. Encompass insisted that Medicare REQUIRED an in-person visit to accompany teletherapy. WHAT? You want me to be exposed to your therapists who are in nursing homes and with possible "compromised" patients every day? WHAT? I am 74 years old -- I cannot do that and you shouldn't be asking me to do that -- an, btw, Medicare repeatedly told me that what Encompass Home Health was claiming was 1) untrue, and, 2) impeding my recovery process. By the time I fired Encompass Home Health, I'd gone more than 6 weeks with no therapy -- and my progress had basically stopped. I have someone new now -- and he's great -- and is pushing me so i can hopefully make up some lost time. But if you want ongoing, consistent therapy, beware of Encompass Home Health -- I cannot tell you how many excuses they came up with as to why they couldn't provide what everyone in the whole world was advising: virtual care whenever possible and minimal exposure to outsiders. Getting their reimbursement became much more important than ensuring my continued recovery. I haven't even hugged my daughter for almost two months -- I was not about to allow "in-person" visits from Encompass. Also, I found out later that my PT was in fact exposed and quite ill about two weeks after I stopped her from coming to my house. Not that Encompass would have ever told me that -- and I wonder how many patients have unnecessarily been exposed to a potentially lethal virus because Encompass misunderstood the Medicare rules. Just sayin'.....

She just has such a loving presence. We had a great chat at the beginning, a hands-on Reiki session and a nice debriefing at the end. So, I'm a Skeptic…read more Just that kinda person. I generally don't like medicine that I can't trace back to anatomical reality (I get exasperated talking about Chi and other untestable, unmeasurable concepts). So I obviously didn't go to Acupuncture to get my chakrahs back into balance or anything like that. I have a pretty nasty back injury that gave me a fair amount of pain and tough ciatica (look it up). I've been doing PT, and I've been healing quite nicely (I'm not going ton a "Western Medicine is Useless!" rant today), but I'm not a very patient person. I wanted to see if I could do some pain management beyond medication, for obvious reasons. I went to see Lisa because my mother's friends (who are much more... spiritually oriented) have given me sufficient anecdotes that I decided I'd give it a try. Anyway, disclaimer aside. I enjoyed the visit. Lisa is a grounded, rational person that actually talks about medicine and the body. There's a little bit of "energy flow" stuff going on that I managed to not get frustrated about--in short, at the end of the conversation I was pretty convinced she knew what she was talking about. Then with the needles. Afterwards, I felt significant improvement. I have a lot more relaxation in my back and leg, the ciatica's gone down. I'm walking around without a cane, which is a fair improvement. I'm quite pleased with the treatment. Over the next few days, I'll be updating as to my progress. I'd recommend Lisa for an alternative approach to pain management stress, musculoskeletal or nervous problems, definitely. I will continue to hold out on the mystical cancer-healing powers of heat lamps and small needles until I've seen better science on the topic.
