The staff is wonderful, working in that environment is most often met with patients that are not on their best behavior, in pain who can be ? The staff always remains so optomistic. This is my second visit and the results are great. Dr. Lubrano is the best, concerned with making me feel better and he did.

Upon arrival, they performed an EKG, X-rays, and blood work--but then left her sitting in the waiting room for over 8 hours without treatment or monitoring. Given her condition, this was alarming and felt unsafe. When we were finally brought to a room, we were seen by a nurse practitioner who, while polite, informed us we would not be seeing a physician as he had 12 years experience. After additional blood work, he returned and said she would be discharged if she could walk. A staff member walked her for approximately 10 seconds and cleared her. I specifically asked why she was being discharged with blood pressure still over 200, and was told she was "fine" and that her primary care doctor would need to manage it. This response was both dismissive and deeply concerning given the potential severity of hypertensive crisis. The lack of urgency, minimal evaluation before discharge, and dismissal of a dangerously high blood pressure reading left us feeling frustrated and worried for her safety. I would not expect this level of care--or lack thereof--from a hospital in a serious situation.

She decided the day of treatment, while I was under sedation, that the tooth did not need a RC and did a composite filling instead. She treated several other teeth for cavities (I only consented to ONE). It has since been determined by two dentist and an endodontist that the referring dentist had been correct about the need for a RC. Furthermore, the work she did on the tooth next to the problem one caused that to need a RC--this tooth had not been hurting me prior. I gave her several opportunities to fix the issue and while she did make a good faith effort, she failed to be able to correctly diagnosis the problem (or listen to other dentist that told her that the two teeth need RC's despite me having provided her with the full reports and signing a release for her to speak with them) Continue reading for the full timeline of events. Note that names of other dental offices have been redacted. January 18, 2023: I received the treatment plan from Dental Care of Burlington [DCB]. The total cost was $5,280. The treatment plan was for a root canal, crown, and ONE composite filling of tooth #30. January 19, 2023: I was asked to sign the treatment plans and necessary consents. Since we had not thoroughly reviewed a root canal's risks and benefits, I asked to speak with Dr. Shabani before signing the consent. Her assistant attempted to answer my questions, but I insisted on speaking to the dentist. Dentist responded to my questions about the root canal while I was being hooked up to monitors and getting an IV in my hand. I signed the consent for the root canal and the treatment plan for the root canal, crown and ONE composite filling only. I remember very little after the being administered the IV drugs. January 20, 2023: I returned to the office to have my bite adjusted it was at this time I leaned exactly what work had been performed. January 27, 2023: I woke up with an extreme toothache and called [DCB]. They could not get me in until the end of the following week. I found an emergency dentist who was able to get me in that afternoon. He took X-rays and informed me that #31 needed a RC (I did not tell him that was the orginal treatment plan)He also mentioned that filings that had completed were "very sloppy" and needed to be redone. He cited "overhang" and a good amount of decay left behind as his reasons for drawing this conclusion. End of February: I returned to my general dentist. He reconfirmed his belief that #31 needed a RC and also noted that my bite was off. March 2, 2023: I returned to [DCB] for a bite adjustment and pain, primarily in tooth #30 and #31. Dr. Shabni acknowledged in person and in her notes, that #30 needed to be re-done. She claimed that #31 was fine but thought I was irritating it with my tongue. March 16, 2023: I returned to [DCB] with increasing pain levels was was once again told it was because I was playing with the area. Dr. Shabni suggested I get them polished down under sedation. April 6, 2023: Dr. Shabani placed a sedative filling on tooth #31 to help "calm it down." This provided SOME relief, but it continued to hurt. I went to see a third dentist for another opinion. He, like the two dentists before him, stated that #31 needed a root canal and that #30 also needed one because the filling was pressing up against the nerve. April 11, 2023, I spoke with Dr. Shabani about what [3rd dentist] said, and urged her to listen to the three other doctors and do a RC. She said you would get back to me on scheduling, because we had to coordinate with [Anesthesiologist] . She also suggested putting a medicated filling on tooth #30 to help calm it down, which I initially agreed to. On April 12, 2023, I informed Dr. Shabni I no longer wanted to do the sedative filling and wanted just to treat the tooth when we could get time on [Anesthesiologist] schedule. She claimed we needed to do the sedative filling to isolate which tooth was causing me the problem (I was later informed that messing with a tooth that needs a RC is a bad idea). After some dispute about how much of the RC bill I would be responsible for, she expressed her annoyance that I "keep going to other dentist" and "don't trust her". I expressed that my weariness is because she did a lot of work without consent and I've been in pain since January. She told me to go to another dentist and she'd refund me the entire amount of my procedure "because it's just not worth it at this point". As of now, I have not received the refund or communication about when I can expect to receive it. I also have not received my entire chart despite having asked for it repeatedly (even before April 12). DCB is also not giving me the necessary paperwork needed to work with the [Anesthesiologist] to find another dentist. For all of these reasons, I cannot recommend Dental Care of Burlington.

Dr. Costello is an amazingly caring ENT who not only treated me when I first had symptoms of…read morehearing loss, but referred me when he knew I needed care at Mass Eye and Ear in 2015. Fast forward 6 years and I had lived through a medical saga that turned out to be a spinal CSF leak and I had to travel cross-country dozens of times for experts to treat that condition. Those doctors thought my hearing loss, tinnitus, and vestibular issues were additional symptoms of the spinal CSF leak, but after surgery to repair that issue, my ear issues did not resolve when the rest of the leak symptoms did. We thought maybe it was just damage from the leak that became permanent and I gave up on looking for different answers. That's when I made an appointment for a follow-up hearing test with Dr. Costello even though I hadn't seen him in years. I remembered that he was so kind and didn't think I needed anything more than testing to see if my hearing loss had changed any over the years. I brought all sorts of information with me regarding spinal CSF leaks so I could share my story with him and all that had happened to me and my case over the years In case he ever came across another patient like me. Not only was he open to hearing all about it, but he was excited to talk and learn more!! While I was speaking with him, he pulled up the imaging I had at MEEI years ago and realized almost immediately that I had a condition that was overlooked by the MEEI doctors that explained all my ear issues - hearing loss, tinnitus, popping, vestibular deficits, etc! He immediately realized that I needed to once again be seen at MEEI, but after I shared my concern about the previous doctor I saw there not telling me about the issue (semicircular canal dehiscence) years ago, so he personally called and got me connected with a doctor there that he really admired. She was wonderful, too! I am currently still going through testing at MEEI and a path forward for me is still unknown, but with Dr. Costello's keen eye, caring nature and follow-through, I no longer have mystery symptoms that may have caused me many more trips across the country and dangerous procedures, thinking that they were still due to the spinal CSF leak!! Dr. Costello cleared up so much for me and I will forever be grateful. Even if my continued issues are not able to be resolved, I now have answers and relief from the worry of not knowing what was happening to my own body and brain. I know that sometimes his daughters check the Yelp reviews, so if you are reading this - please know that your Dad is awesome and please tell him how much I appreciate him! Sherri Morales, the surgical coordinator was extremely rude and careless. Every-time I had called her number to speak with her about my surgical time and or questions I had leading up to my surgery she had an attitude and no interest on being on the phone or in person talking with me, which is part of her job to remind you. The doctor/surgeon I had was Dr. Doolittle. I was prescribed 40 Oxy @ 5 mg and was told by one of the discharging nurses at Shields Surgical Center to take Tylenol every hour. My caretaker was there to receive the pain regime since I was still coming out of the anesthesia. By day 2 post op I was vomiting non stop and couldn't stop shaking. The person who took care of me as well as myself were greatly concerned. By day 3 post op I was rushed to the Hospital by ambulance closet to me, and had told them the type of procedure I had, as well as the pain regime I was directed to be on after surgery. I was overdosing and slowly killing myself without even having the knowledge of it. The doctor over at the hospital was greatly concerned for my liver and how much Oxy and Tylenol I was prescribed and being told to take. I was severely dehydrated as I didn't eat or drink knowing that I would throw it up due to Oxy and Tylenol. I also had a UTI. Dr. Doolittle had instructed me to NOT take any Ibuprofen or Motrin because of bleeding. The doctor at the ER told me otherwise. I left the hospital after being on an IV, prescribed nausea meds and as well as a new pain regime which consisted of Tylenol and Motrin/Ibuprofen every 3 hours switching them so I get a little bit of something every 3 hours. ENT were very quick to send my bill to me. I had spoken with Jennifer and had a referral from my PCP sent over to them as well as insurance to cover the bill. A week went by with no phone call back from them regarding the bill, including no e-mail or mail sent out to my address. I called them to make sure everything was squared away with my bill. It wasn't. Nobody called me to let me know that they needed another referral from my PCP. I am now 1 month post op, and on my right side of the back of my mouth (where my tonsils were once located) I still have a chunk of tonsil that was not taken out. I have relocated since my surgery and am now going to have to find a new ENT doctor to fix Dr. Doolittle's mess. I am so frustrated as this was my first surgery ever and no one took care of me like I thought I would be taken care of here. My anxiety about this surgery was extreme, I got sedated before surgery because of the stress and anxiety I was having while nurses and the anesthesiologist were prepping me before I went under the knife. It takes a lot to trust anyone when you aren't conscious enough to be able to trust them visually. Please take this as a precaution before entering this office and receiving treatment.

Obviously Aetna sucks, but I never should have been told it would be a total of $60 for my visit. I should have been told it was a $60 upfront fee, but there may be a further payment required. I called and was told I should have read the entire, long contract I was handed when I arrived for my visit. It said that I was responsible for any additional costs after my insurance provider processed the bill. I *had* read that, and *had* asked the question of "how much will I actually have to pay, worst case scenario" specifically because I had read that and was worried. I was assured $60 would be all I owe. So I signed it. Probably a moment of weakness on my part, shame on me for trusting this practice. I'm now legally on the hook for $330 for a session that only led to "you need an endoscopy", when I was assured by an employee of Digestive Health Associates that I would only owe my deductible of $60. On paper DHA can claim no misleading practices (unless I had thought to record my conversation with the receptionist). So can Aetna. But no party in this supposed "healthcare" industry cared at all about me, and for that, I recommend looking elsewhere for a more ethical & caring practice.
