It's an acquired taste and old school Davisites miss the 'flavor' when it's absent. Quality- quality of life in the town is pretty great. Lovely walkability, public transportation is very decent and a fairly high level of education make it a grand place for residents. Value- well, it was a lot better real estate-wise before but it's still reasonable. Davis is fine. It is not the Davis of yesteryear which long term residents seem to miss. There is still no gosh darn address for the entire city. Just enjoy the place.

I lived here for five years without a car, which was refreshing as a San Diego native! There are also two movie theaters. Lots of shops and places to eat in downtown Davis, as well as a lot of open spaces and parks. The greenbelts around town are fantastic for exercising and getting nature serotonin. I'll never forget being CHASED by a gaggle of wild turkeys on a run in South Davis though, or being terrorized by Downtown Tom Situated in the middle of a bunch of farmland in Yolo County, Davis is about 20 minutes west from Sacramento. It's an easy 1.5 hours west to SF and 1.5 hours east for Tahoe. It's a college town so there isn't a ton to do other than eat or drink, and the nightlife definitely skews to undergrad age. Everyone seemed to be either 22 or parents, so I found myself going to Sacramento more and more often to meet people in their early 30s. Cost of living is high, but it's California so no worse than anywhere else in the state. I lived in the Cranbrook Apartments my entire time and loved it.
