Even though I have an appointment I wasn't called until almost 15 mins after my appointment time. The person that helped process my paperwork was nice and quick! I didn't expect a longer wait time when I had an appointment so be prepared for that.

Public libraries are a gem in our society. Where else could you borrow tons of books and leave with…read morethem for free! The library is a place for more than just books! Events, classes, and more can be found here for free as well. Not into books? You can check out Blu-ray or DVD movies as well! The kids side of the library can be loud (it's on the left as you walk in). If you want quiet you should head off to the right. You don't need to wander far to find a quiet desk or table. The only thing I wish our Library had more of was parking. During events or busy days the parking lot fills up very quickly and you can find yourself circling for a while. The street parking is limited as well. I'd definitely walk, but we live to far away.

This library is open everyday, so that's nice b/c none of the Sac Public Libraries is open on Sundays or Mondays. I can't believe this one is open even on Sundays, great for kids to hang out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. As I entered, there's the kids' area on the left side, it's like a separate wing altogether and it's nice and colorful in there. It's really big too, so kids must really enjoy that space and I saw quite a few kids there on a late weekday afternoon, maybe cuz it's summer time. Lots of kids books on shorter shelves and several kids' computers w/preloaded software for them. Back towards the entrance of the library you'll find the info/front desk where the librarians and assistants are available to help you find books etc. Then there's shelves of books and towards the back of the library, but still in the middle as you look in, there's a friends of the library book sale and an area where you can eat and there are a couple of vending machines so you can buy a snack and drink. There's even a charging stand with multiple cords for different phones if you need to recharge your phone. The right side of the library is where teens and adults sections are and there's a dedicated teens room, and a couple of study rooms as well as a huge and really nice study room named after some lady who's a local person of importance and the room is filled with old books and is pretty amazing to study in although it was kind of hot and stuffy in there so I just peeked in and didn't stay. Finally, towards the far right side of the library are all the circulating movie and TV DVDs and there were a ton compared to other libraries I've seen as well as CDs which interesting, is still popular here. And lots of seating and reading loungers, but mostly desk and chairs for studying. All in all this is a pretty nice and big library, older, but well-kept.

It's hard to give a review as it's Jury Duty, not one of our favorites activities…read more I got my Jury Duty Card in the mail. After receiving the card you go online right away and fill out a questionnaire. Then you wait to the night before to call or look on line to see if your pool was called. Mine was called so I logged on the next day with their zoom like link. You can also go in person. You chances of getting called is all random so going in person or logging in on line doesn't make a difference. Once logged on or in person they randomly call your name and ask if you have an excuse. The main ways people got their jury duty postponed was if they are a full time student or full time caregiver. The other reason are case by case. I didn't have any excuse so I proceeded to the next step. I was to show up on Monday, October 5, 2025 at 10am. Make sure you pay attention when you are with the Judge to find out what time you are to show up. I couldn't recall if it was 10am or 9am so I showed up at 9am. At 8am I left my house and followed the GPS to get to the court house parking lot. The drive wasn't bad, it took a good 30 minutes to get there. As it turns out there are 2 parking lots. I originally parked in the farthest and there was no one around me so I examined the situation and realized there was a second lot so I drove over there and parked among the other cars. After I parked I got out of my car and checked out the lay of the land. I think I spotted the court house and people walking to it so I followed the crowd. I arrived at 9am, went through the metal detector, and of course it beeped at me both times I went through so I had to get wander. The guy said it may have been my iwatch. Soon as you pass through the metal detector and luggage scanner walk straight and the Jury Selection room is on your right under the stairs. Soon as you enter the room turn right and get in line. Being there an hour early there was no line. She checked me in and gave me a sticker, Group A. I then proceeded to the waiting area. They have a fridge, microwave, and kerig machine. It seems like a really new building and room. It's pretty clean and has no smell, which is a good thing. It's brightly lit and the temperature is comfortable. If you get there early you can snag one of the high chair seats at the back you'll get an outlet. I'm not sure if there are outlets or usb ports, but I'm guessing they do. At 10am they showed a video about Jury Service and then called group C, then group B, and eventually group A. A was to go the 4th floor in room 7. A few of us tried to take the stairs, but that only got us to the 2nd floor. From there we hopped in the elevator. When we entered room 7 they called 24 people randomly up to the jury box. I felt the room quite chilly and was glad I brought a sweater. From there the judge proceeded to ask questions. Then the two lawyers asked their questions. Less then 4 people were released from Jury Duty. It was a long day. Around 4pm they finally finished up their questions and settled on a jury and 2 alternates. By 4:15 we were done and I wasn't one of the lucky people chosen to be on the Jury and it was time for everyone to go home. This was not my first time called for Jury Duty. It was my first time being called in to the room and before the judge and a possibility to become part of the jury.

There was plenty of parking. I was directed through text to "check-in" online once I arrived on site and given a QR code to scan at the kiosk for my ticket number. When it was my turn, my ticket number appeared on the screen in the front of the room and I was also texted. Once I went to the window, I showed the necessary documents to the employee, she gave me a receipt and was told I would get my new social security card in 2 weeks. I was out in less than 5 minutes. Very easy.

1/5 -- Extremely Frustrating and Unacceptable Experience…read more I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received at the Social Security office in Concord. I have been trying since the beginning of this year to get what should be simple documentation processed, and after multiple attempts, I still have not been able to get the help or resolution I need. Today, September 9, 2026, at approximately 9:57 AM, I specifically asked to speak with a supervisor because the issue has been going on for months. Instead of contacting the supervisor or explaining a clear process for speaking with one, I was repeatedly denied the opportunity. I even asked what I needed to do in order to speak with the supervisor, and they still would not call or notify the supervisor that I was requesting assistance. What made the experience even worse was the security guard on site today. The interaction was extremely rude and disrespectful at a time when I was simply trying to get assistance with an issue that has remained unresolved for most of the year. It is unacceptable that someone can spend months trying to resolve a documentation issue and still be unable to get meaningful assistance or even speak with a supervisor after specifically requesting one. People come to the Social Security Administration because they need help with important matters, and they deserve to be treated respectfully and given clear answers. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have had with a government office. I hope management at the Concord location reviews how situations like this are being handled and takes these complaints seriously.

I have lived in Davis since I was very little and have grown up here. I have dealt with police in…read moremany places on many occasions and this police department is the best I have ever encountered. They are incredibly professional and respond pretty quickly considering their numbers. I do not have police in my family and I am a very pro 2nd Amendment, small government, and individual freedom. These things would usually conflict with love for police departments but Davis PD is very open and they do not abuse their power, at least in my opinion. This contrasts greatly with our Sheriff and our neighboring UC Police (both of which I have had bad experiences with). In Jr. High I was held at gunpoint by Carl's Jr. by several Davis PD and the Sheriff's Department. Someone thought I had a gun (I didn't) so of course, the police had to respond. Despite the felony stop and the unpleasant experience, I felt that they did their job and did not go beyond their power. No, the cuffs were not comfortable and being on the pavement sucked too, but compliance kept my mom and me alive and well. I have been unlawfully detained many times by UC Davis police and I think to have that many officers that do not know the law and to have such unprofessional officers on the force, is a disgrace. They seem more like a bunch of "bros" than professional peace officers. To be fair, I am judging these experiences from 4+ years ago; they have not bothered me since. Chief Black was an awesome Chief for many years and now we have Chief Pytel who is doing a great job as well. Davis PD also offers a free Citizen's Police Academy where you learn about your rights and about the different departments in the police department. I highly recommend people to take this course to learn about your rights. All police departments deal with scumbags and the people that we do not want to have to deal with. I judge the police on how they deal with these encounters and then how they treat the law-abiding citizens who request help. If they're constantly an a-hole, they probably should not be a police officer. Davis PD is not perfect by any means. The police should not be solving all of our problems anyways. However, these guys and gals do their jobs very well and I hope they keep up the good work they do for our community.

It was different then in both the good and bad of it. At the time, I didn't like Davis.. and I really hated the commute from Sac those 4 years. It was more bicycle friendly- so moving around to shop or eat, or go to a park for a lunch time walk was a lot more of a breeze. It even had a sign on Richards Blvd off I-80 going into town about Davis being the bicycle capital of the world (I'm paraphrasing, but, something to that effect) Road Traffic in Davis was minimal. It was always a fun place to grab some food. I will always give David credit for the variety of restaurants here! Fast forward to 2023...I absolutely adore Davis! I drop in from time to time to eat or stop by Trader Joe's for pure nostalgia. LOL. I remember getting around most of Davis pretty well without GPS. Absolutely hate the road traffic! There's cars EVERYWHERE!! Funny how time changes things. LOL.

I didn't know how to use the kiosk, but the really nice security guard helped me he showed me how to change my settings. And helped me scan the QR code. The process was fast and easy. I waited in the room. They called my number. I went up to the desk then they tell you to leave your phone number and they put you in a queue and you leave and they give you a phone call well they gave me a phone call within 30 minutes. I had already gotten home and resolved my issue. They've really stepped it up. It was a smooth transaction. And I didn't have to wait outside a long time either.

I approached the building during active rain and attempted to open the door, as one would normally do at any public building. The male security guard stationed at the main entrance, who was shorter in height, stocky in build, with black hair, dark eyes, and dark skin, abruptly stepped outside, physically blocked the door, and addressed me in a hostile, authoritarian manner. There was no visible signage or clear instruction indicating that visitors were required to wait for the guard to open the door, and I had no way of knowing this beforehand. Rather than showing basic courtesy or calmly explaining the procedure--especially given the weather--the guard chose to be confrontational and dismissive. The interaction felt like an unnecessary power trip and was completely inappropriate for a public-facing federal office. I am giving one star due to the lack of professionalism, courtesy, and basic human consideration shown by the security staff. This experience was avoidable and left a very negative impression.
