The capitol museum is part of the Sacramento Badge Pass. I didn't realize it until I left that I could've received a discount for showing my event badge. Parking kind of sucked. I didn't know where to park so I parked in a structure on 13th and P. If you're visiting when they're still doing the construction for the expansion of the capitol building, then I would suggest parking on the western side of 11th or 12th street. You can only access the building on L or N streets through a security checkpoint on either the north side or south side of the building. The front side (from 10th street) is not an entrance. However, that's the best place to take pictures. I would've explored the garden, but it was way too hot to venture outside of the a/c for too long. I visited on early August where the temperature was 100-104.

The building is impressive and grand! They offer free tours every hour and I would highly recommend as it only takes about 30-45 minutes to complete and after that you are still welcome to wander around at your leisure. State congress was in session so I was able to watch for a few minutes to see how it is done.

Meet the Grape Crusher…read more Many, many years ago, my Girl Scout troop helped at a family vineyard in Florida. Wow. That gave me a lot of respect for all of the labor that goes into harvesting and crushing grapes. The Grape Crusher pays homage to all those who labored to make Napa Valley what it is today. This monumental sculpture is visible from the highway, but you can exit to take a closer look. The vineyard worker wears a wide brimmed hat. He has both hands gripping the handle of the press and one foot braced against the basket. (We were also sweating, but that was because it reached 104 F on a very unseasonably hot day in October... so bonus...we had the park to ourselves.) Beautiful scenic views from the park. Free parking available with an easy inclined paved walkway to the statue. Worth a short stop for a quick photo op.

The dairy was located on Alhambra Boulevard / Q Street in the City of Sacramento. The dairy officially opened for business in 1924 and continued to produce milk & cream until closing it's doors sometime in the 1980's. Looking back at old photo's of the Glenn Dairy Building and comparing them with current pictures, little has changed on the outside. The major difference is in the inside of the building. The dairy was converted into medical office spaces. They did a fantastic job in restoring the Glenn Dairy Building ! This is one of those places where words just can't explain or describe the feeling of being there…read moreimagining what it must have been like back then. Truly one of those if only those walls could talk thoughts go through one's mind when strolling Main Street Locke. There's some sadness to see the dilapidated conditions of the structures here and I hope that these will be around for as long as possible. Ironically only 3 of the 70 residents there are of Chinese descent...they are also the ancestors of those who once occupied quarters in Locke during its hay day.

It's such a cool little town and honestly feels like stepping back in time…read more Walking down the street and seeing the original buildings, museums, and small shops makes you realize how much history is still preserved here. There's something really special about Locke. It hasn't lost its character and doesn't feel overly touristy. You can just walk around, read the historic markers, explore, and take everything in at your own pace. I think everyone should visit at least once, especially if you live nearby. It's an awesome way to learn about local history and experience a part of the Delta that still feels authentic and untouched. Definitely one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.

There was already a line and more people came after us. The staff were very friendly, the tickets ($45) came with two drink tokens (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available with free water), and we also were able to enjoy complimentary snacks. We sat in the open carriage and had a great view of the Sacramento river, Tower bridge, and surrounding areas. I definitely enjoyed this ride snd would do it again, I think it could be improved if it departed slightly later in order to see the sunset. Would do it again and I think this would be great for kids!

There was a photographer on board, but we haven't received any photos, which would have been very cool. However, I will note that the process of checking in and boarding took a very long time; I was fine, but it was very hot out with no fans or AC and several other passengers were visibly weakened by the experience. I'll be back but would caution others to be mindful of the weather and prepare accordingly.
