The City of Davis and I have had quite a history in a chunk of my adult working life. I never lived or went to school here. I worked here from 2011 to 2015. It was different then in both the good and bad of it. At the time, I didn't like Davis.. and I really hated the commute from Sac those 4 years. It was more bicycle friendly- so moving around to shop or eat, or go to a park for a lunch time walk was a lot more of a breeze. It even had a sign on Richards Blvd off I-80 going into town about Davis being the bicycle capital of the world (I'm paraphrasing, but, something to that effect) Road Traffic in Davis was minimal. It was always a fun place to grab some food. I will always give David credit for the variety of restaurants here! Fast forward to 2023...I absolutely adore Davis! I drop in from time to time to eat or stop by Trader Joe's for pure nostalgia. LOL. I remember getting around most of Davis pretty well without GPS. Absolutely hate the road traffic! There's cars EVERYWHERE!! Funny how time changes things. LOL. read more

My kids come for the university and I come here for the food and farmers market! Davis is a welcoming college town! Don't have any kids in college? Doesn't matter, there are plenty of things to do - parks, farmers markets, trendy restaurants, and shops! Always something to do! read more

Davis City Offices - Foggy evening - Town Hall Near Me - Davis, California

This little place is pretty nice. Now I have to be pandemic you can now eat outside of course here there are the tents for most restaurants but be aware sometimes parking is horrible. You Gotta make sure you find a spot and keep it. You can pretty much walk to every location that you need. So find a parking spot and it is easy to just hit everything you want some food and some broom and beer and fun. There are nice record stores out here, also there is comic book store, and I can't wait until other places that have previously close finally decide to re-open up. Such as the whiskey bar. I've been waiting for that place to open back up for a while. It looks like they will. Traffic coming out here sometimes is hectic but there are multiple exit and ways to get around it as well. Also make sure you check out the thrift store and support the local ASPCA. Of course this is a college town so there are a lot of young people but this is a place for everybody to show their support for the local community in a place of course to chill and relax as well. You can also bring your family to some places and find what you need as well. read more

Welcome to the People's Republic of Davis! (http://bit.ly/2kEInJB) While I'm sure the Yelp clan and students passing through on a 4-5-6-7? year vacation find Davis to be a fantastic experience, actually living there for a number of years has taken its toll on my critique. "Keep Davis Boring" (http://bit.ly/2fXuwZC) has many valid points such as the attempt to maintain the quality of life, which is rapidly deteriorating with the transient population. (not homeless- very very temporary) "Keep Davis Boring" is also fooling itself if it believes that Davis isn't a college town. Never thought I'd be one for reducing the number of businesses in Davis but it's gotten a bit out of hand. Just hope that nothing really bad (http://bit.ly/2yehqBa scroll to Peter Gonzales) has to happen (again) before stuff slows down in Davis**. **on the other hand, we love your money. Bicycle capital of California, seems right. Many people not just Students, ride bicycles. Yes there is University Of California, Davis. Hurray for beautiful town Davis, California. The food places! Okay, aside from the university, UC Davis, I only know the city of Davis for the food! We love coming to Davis to eat! When hubby and I spend a day in the Bay Area we like to stop in Davis to have a snack at one of the city's dessert shops before we head home to Roseville. Here are some dining experiences we've had with family and friends: Cafe Italia - Mothers Day 2014 House of Chang [now CLOSED] - Father's Day 2014 Jack in the Box (LoL!)... random (quick breakfast) Steve's Pizza - many times! Paesano's - Mother's Day 2015 Zumapoke & Lush Ice - Yelp Event March 2016 Vampire Penguin [now CLOSED] - many times! and lately... Lazi Cow - Community Ambassador Yelp Event July 2016 Bicycling has been a very popular mode of transportation to get around especially for college students. The city's motto, after all, is "The most bicycle friendly town in the world" Although there are some free public parking lots every few blocks it could still be a challenge to find street parking especially in downtown area with all the restaurants and food places around. I still have yet to watch a performance at the Mondavi Center... maybe someday. For now I will just enjoy the many food places the city has to offer. The town is stunning, the law enforcement and town officials (including yolo county) are lacking.

I have been visiting Davis California ever since my best friend in high school started going there for college, around 2010. Coincidentally, my brother lives there now, and is raising his 2 kids in a neighborhood in central Davis. This city is amazing. It's a university town of course, but more than that, it is a great suburb of Sacramento. There is a hustling bustling safe downtown area, where you could spend days listening to free live music, eating at amazing restaurants, and going to all kinds of festivals, like Picnic Day! Don't forget to stop by the Davis Food Co-op. It's a wonder to behold. The arboretum is beautiful and huge! Way nicer than any arboretum I have been to before. Great for hikes and Pokemon Go walks. The Mondavi center is really cool too. They have concerts, plays, lectures, etc. Even my 4 year-old niece loves talking about her adventures at the Mondavi Center! More than all this though, Davis is a city of environmentally conscious people, who care a lot about the town they live in. It is a great place to live and raise a family. Davis is a great city, full of diversity, intelligent people from all over the world. It has a great university, which adds so much to the community. It is the most bicycle-friendly city in the nation. It has the first community based solar energy projects. Front yard organic gardens are common. And, we hate Trump. read more

Davis is a really pretty and small college town. At night it's really nice and quiet. Most people here are really friendly and take their time to greet one another. Downtown Davis is really fun to walk around at and visit the different vendors. Kids are out playing in the streets and parks, it's a wonderful community. read more

My family and I just moved to Davis and we love it. Friendly people. Respectful drivers. Many things to do and see. Very diverse.

I grew up in Davis, it's a great place to raise kids, the beautiful bike trails throughout the town are amazing! I love that people all ages get out and see the town walking and biking, etc. My only two complaints are it's VERY expensive to live and it's still not very diverse. Every time I think of Davis lately I wonder why wouldn't anyone want to live here!! It's an awesome town!! First it is the safest town, you can walk and jog at 3 am in the morning, leave your car or door unlocked..leave your stuff unattended while you go check something out across the street because...it's Davis lol. The quality of life is very high, it has the, now, ninth school in the country as its University. It has great education and lots of events. People are friendly warm and educated. It is a great place to start a family. It s close to everything, Tahoe, Bay Area...the weather is not too bad. It is extremely pet friendly (every body has at least one pet) it is bike friendly. The city of Davis has specific rules for produce and restaurants which makes for fresh organic food. If I ever come back here I WILL NEVER LEAVE!!! read more

Me and my husband move to Davis from Louisiana in August 2018. Though moving from one place to another is really hectic but he was in mid of his PhD so he had opt to move to Davis as his mentor is also moving to Uc Davis. The best part after moving to Davis is we get a affordable student housing. Beside this all I was also expecting a baby. We start exploring this city. Davis is really managed city and beautiful too. Spending evening walk in the Davis downtown is amazing experience. Shops and houses are well managed here. The best part of city of Davis is that it theft stores where one can get good household items at very reasonable prices. Also even in our community we receive lot of donations ( household items and even free farm fares) . Davis is beautifully decorated with pride color of nature. Agriculture is also done here in plenty. One can see lot of farms around. Living in Davis is like living in pollution free city. Also it is among 50 safest cities in California. read more
