They have great summer reading challenges for kids! For example 1,000 books before Kindergarten. Your child places a spaceship on the library wall to track their progress and earns prizes along the way! if we were residents, we would sign up! This library is open everyday, so that's nice b/c none of the Sac Public Libraries is open on Sundays or Mondays. I can't believe this one is open even on Sundays, great for kids to hang out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. As I entered, there's the kids' area on the left side, it's like a separate wing altogether and it's nice and colorful in there. It's really big too, so kids must really enjoy that space and I saw quite a few kids there on a late weekday afternoon, maybe cuz it's summer time. Lots of kids books on shorter shelves and several kids' computers w/preloaded software for them. Back towards the entrance of the library you'll find the info/front desk where the librarians and assistants are available to help you find books etc. Then there's shelves of books and towards the back of the library, but still in the middle as you look in, there's a friends of the library book sale and an area where you can eat and there are a couple of vending machines so you can buy a snack and drink. There's even a charging stand with multiple cords for different phones if you need to recharge your phone. The right side of the library is where teens and adults sections are and there's a dedicated teens room, and a couple of study rooms as well as a huge and really nice study room named after some lady who's a local person of importance and the room is filled with old books and is pretty amazing to study in although it was kind of hot and stuffy in there so I just peeked in and didn't stay. Finally, towards the far right side of the library are all the circulating movie and TV DVDs and there were a ton compared to other libraries I've seen as well as CDs which interesting, is still popular here. And lots of seating and reading loungers, but mostly desk and chairs for studying. All in all this is a pretty nice and big library, older, but well-kept.

Yolo County is very proud of its history and it shows. The library and archives has long been an important part of that and that has been reinforced by the renovation and upgrade of the archives facility. You wouldn't think a smaller county like Yolo would have a state of the art archive, but it does! And it is for everyone, the public, researchers, government officials, we can all use it. The collection contains records from various Yolo County agencies/departments as well as family collections from community members and local businesses. The staff is there to help you find and access it all. The materials include maps, blueprints, photographs, bound volumes, manuscripts, newspapers, yearbooks, and secondary sources in the form of published books and articles. Access is by appointment, and staff is very friendly. There are tons of ways to support and get involved with the archives, just check out their website. They also put forth fun curated projects/exhibitions to highlight parts of the collection, for example, a speaker series to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment where they show materials from the archives and have historians discuss research and history.

They have a nice Kid's Area with lots of room for activities! My daughter loves coming here to not only pick out books, but to also play with the toys. They also provide computers for use as well as headphones. You can even check out comic books and video games here! All of the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I love that they have a massive amazing wooden playground and they even have a smaller playground behind the library. Great walking area around the whole complex as well! There is a building next door that even hosts dance classes and what not. My daughter has attended classes there and she has even had soccer practice on the fields behind the library. It's overall a great library and there is always something to do and entertain my daughter when we visit. I also love the convenience of their website and the emails they send out letting me know when our books are due back or when a book I want to check out is ready for pick up!

My youngest daughter actually has asked to leave multiple times because of the noise level preventing her to be able to concentrate and read. I do wish that a staff member would be more diligent.

And I have a friend who loves libraries. Turns out libraries are great places to work. In the UC Davis library is fantastic. It has more study space than most libraries, even university libraries. It's perfectly laid out. It's immaculately clean. There are plenty of electrical plugs for your laptop. There are rooms where you could have a small gathering and chat, and there are areas where you can study or work quietly . There's a museum exhibit on the main floor with an interesting display related to agriculture and food. Parking on the UC Davis campus is allegedly very easy, as long as you're willing to pay.

They also have sensory kits, adventure packs, & storytime kits available. An arts & crafts table offers changing simple activities like coloring. Though some of the seating is worn, the space always seems tidy. Staff at the front desk are welcoming, friendly, approachable, & helpful. The DIY check out & return systems are convenient & user friendly. There is a section of books & media for purchase. It's located at Mahany Park, next door to the Utility Exploration Center, which expands a nice family experience. There's plenty of parking for everyone using all the other parks & recreation facilities in the complex as well.

The designated "study" rooms upstairs are often used for group classes and the "quiet areas" upstairs would still have periods of lengthy conversation.
