I left it a little late to try to book my deal goodies in, but a short and friendly phone call later, I was assured a next-day pick-up would be absolutely fine. The girls at Camp Hill were such a delight to deal with, and I really wanted to try a little bit of everything in the front cabinet... and the bread racks. My order was all ready to go, and I had to struggle to choose just two breads from the shelves as part of the voucher. I ended up getting a spelt loaf and a pumpkin & blue vein loaf. You did not misread. Yum! I got them both in freezer bags, but if you're going to eat them fresh, Rock 'n' Roll put them in a paper bag instead (it's better for the bread). I got so excited about the breads, I almost forgot about the other parts of the order - a family-size lamb & rosemary pie, and a gluten free orange & almond cake. The cake is moist and full of flavour (I do admit to Cheesecake Regret when I saw the beautiful lime cheesecakes in the cabinet, despite not having that as an option with my voucher). The lamb & rosemary pie? Absolutely delicious. Big chunks of tender lamb in a creamy sauce. I'm not going to lie to you - I've had it for four of my six meals of the last two days, and I might cry when it's gone. Or I might just go buy another one... and one of those sweet potato & onion loaves, while I'm there.

The cafe is clean, very German feeling (I've never been to Germany, but I have a vivid imagination), and might I say should change its name to King of Pies. As you walk past the tables outside and the hat stand with newspapers (including German), the entrance presents itself to you with pies. There is a very classic pie list of plain steak, chicken and bacon pies, but my personal favourite at $5 is the Steak and Mushroom. The pie gives you no crap (literally) and is packed full of flavour with tender pieces of mouth watering steak and stewed mushrooms, you won't be disappointed. The crust is non-flakey and crispy and the pies are hot... I am a big fan and sometimes, find myself craving one... particularly from this bakery (it does not help that it is also on the way to work). Walking in a little bit more you can see the devilishly delightful window of assortments of pastries and cakes. Also delicious and very neatly spread out. In the fridge next to the pies you will find German jams and other assortments of German accompaniments and in the fridge next to the cashier on the far inner corner your drinks. There is seating on the inside too, but it is a nice change from the usual streetside cafe. This cafe is clean (sorry for repeating, but it's true) and cool and the cakes, pies and other tasty treats are fresh, gourmet and so Yelpingly tasty. I don't often offer my four stars to bakeries, but this one is my personal favourite. PS. All sandwiches are on Turkish bread - my personal favourite - Turkey and Cranberry. Don't buy the pies until after 7am... they are nice and hot then.

Channelling the window displays of boulangeries in gay Paris, this place knows the key to effective marketing: people with taste buy with their stomachs. Ergo; I clearly have taste. But honestly, how could you possibly deny the lure of perfectly sculpted and singed spires of meringue upon a lemon meringue tart? Or the incredible hodge-podge of chocolate meringue curls sitting upon a gateau concord? Or the checkerboard design of a chocolate lavender tart? Maybe on an empty stomach, the sweet allure might be less magnetised, hence why they serve up a mean all day breakfast menu - featuring the likes of eggs Benedict on a croissant and scrambled eggs on brioche. It is upon consumption of these that you are more than likely going to sneak the lemon meringue tart home for afternoon tea. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The shop offers a very wide variety of pastries and cakes, I'm sure they have to clean the window several times a day to get the drool off from those stopping to stare. You can eat inside or out, and it's usually pretty busy so best to try and book a table in advance. It's a bit too hot for me in summer, the air con is not great inside (might be to keep the pastries nice I guess) so I usually restrict myself to take home treats unless it's winter :). Definitely a good place for high tea or to take an elderly relative out for brunch...fine china and service. Expensive but high quality food and drinks.

3/3/2013 - "Smile"…read more On a rainy and gloomy day, sometimes that feeling of cosiness (and laziness) requires the injection of a good old meat pie. For no other reason than to feel even more cosier and lazier. Stopping by in our old neighbourhood we decided to grab a quick bite at Yeronga Bakery and Cafe. The Bakery and Cafe has a wide selection of sweet and savoury, from pastries, to cakes, sandwiches, toasties, to sausage rolls and of course meat pies as well as coffee. There were no other customers, and to be blunt, service was very poor. The youngish woman who served us took ages to acknowledge our presence, and when she did; no smiles, and everything seemed like it was a huge favour. Like simply answering our query about what meat pies they had. Whether people realise it or not, as humans, we communicate largely non-verbally and so your mannerisms, your actions, your attitude, those micro-expressions, all convey a message. In this instance, it was "can't-you-see-i'm-over-it-and-i-just-want-to-go-home-please-go-away". Maybe it was getting towards closing time and we were infringing on her weekend plans? Who knows? We're just customers who happened by, lookin' for a good old meat pie. Still, I wanted to try their pies as their slogan is "Best Pies in Town". We ordered the Beef and Mushroom Pie, and the Beef, Bacon and Cheese Pie. We were going to sit in and make use of the tables & chairs outside, perhaps provide a ray of beauty and sunshine in this miserable weather but the cold reception left us feeling a little "off". We did enjoy the meat pie, as it warmed our bellies and hearts, hitting the proverbial sweet spot. As for "best pies in town"? Well, maybe. It depends on your definition of "Town". Best pies in Yeronga perhaps. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for their service, but hopefully, when the sun comes out, it'll be smiles, friendliness and happiness all around.
