Went in for a battery for my mother's Timex watch (I, usually, change them, myself, but, Timex…read morewatches are notoriously difficult to open and close; FWIW, the watch had an original price tag of $125 bought directly from Timex's website (I paid half that thanks to its coincidentally-timed online sale and discount)). The repairman said he was backed-up, and it would take a half-hour. I was a little surprised that it would take that long, but, I wasn't in a rush and had other things to do, so, I had no issue with that. Forty-five minutes later, after doing my chores, I came in, and was recognized by the friendly front staff, who, immediately, got my watch (i.e., they didn't even ask for the receipt tag I had been given). It cost $10, which is double the $5 I last paid at another jeweler (bad experience; won't go back), but, beggars can't be choosers (I hadn't asked for an estimate, and might have balked, but, I'm glad I didn't!). I was surprised that they didn't charge the 3-5% credit/debit card usage, but the woman (manager?) said that, for the quality and price customers pay, they "swallow" the credit company upcharge (a huge difference from an electrician, who charged me $7,500 for a day's work PLUS 3.5% for using a credit card (who has $7.5k cash on them???), which, when I protested, he just shrugged; fortunately, they did a good job)). While I was in the busy jeweler's, other customers were beaming from their new purchase or repair. I was treated like a friend in a non-patronizing way, and, despite the understandable "wait" (first come, first served!), I am very satisfied and will return!

The dealers here seem to do what ALL DOPEY ANTIQUE DEALERSHIPS do : They blindly look up prices on ebay or the internet . This is not a good practice because PRICES ARE FLUID on collectibles and antiques. Always were , always will be. Again, it's all about not caring / not wanting to "move things along" - this is what retired vendors & dealers do. They probably have a pension check coming in and don't REALLY need the extra money. The staff here was less than helpful, less than friendly , less than knowledgeable and now sit "Floyd's Baber Shop" style with a round kitchen table in the middle of the store -- and you can hear all their takes on recent current events and the news . Oh wonderful ! I did buy a few OK / lower priced things here but I hope the dealers involved can get their act together and lower some of the stupid old fashioned prices on junk like Flintstones jelly glasses and old magazines that are collecting dust . (Crazy Prices of note: One average fashion magazine from the 1960s -- it was Vogue or something- was marked $75.00 .
