The vibes were really off from the manager or whoever was in charge. I had a dress on layaway and made two follow-up appointments. I had to cancel the first due to scheduling issues, but I confirmed the second. When I called to make the follow-up appointments, I explained that I wanted to come in and try on the dress I had chosen again to make sure it was the one I wanted. During my first appointment, I saw the dress on the mannequin and loved how it looked. Luckily, they had it in my size. When they brought it out, they mentioned it was wrinkled because it had just been taken out and hadn't been steamed yet. I decided to go with the dress and put it on layaway, but I had a hard time seeing past the wrinkles in the photos I took when I first tried it on. That's why I wanted a follow-up appointment and asked twice if it was possible to have the dress steamed like the other dresses on the floor. Both times, whoever I spoke to said they could do that for me. Today, I went in for my follow-up appointment (I live an hour outside of Calgary), and they brought out the dress, but it wasn't steamed. When I asked about it, the manager or whoever she had immediately told me they couldn't steam the dress unless I paid for it in full. I tried to explain the initial conversations I had with the other staff who booked my follow-up appointments, but she was dismissive and her vibes were totally off. She kept repeating that they only steam fully paid dresses. I was going to pay it off today as I had it on layaway, but she questioned who booked my appointment and demanded her workers find out. She kept talking over me and to her workers in a tone that made me feel uncomfortable. I tried to show her the image of the wrinkly dress I had when I first tried it on, but she didn't seem interested and kept saying they don't steam dresses on layaway. I tried to explain that it was steamed on the mannequin and the other dresses on the floor weren't as wrinkly, but she kept asking her workers to find out who booked my appointment. Eventually, she said they could steam the top material to smooth it out, which was all I had wanted and requested. She quickly had two workers in the back steaming the top material for me, and I got to try it on wrinkle-free. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable from her tone and attitude towards me and her workers that I shut down. I didn't feel good after that and didn't want to engage with her or anyone there. I ended up deciding to keep looking for my dress elsewhere and didn't want to get that dress anymore from them. The worker and other manager who helped me during my first appointment were so welcoming and hyped me up, and I left feeling so good. But after today, I think I'll stay far away from David's Bridal. It's unfortunate because I loved the dress, but the way the older manager made me feel was no good, and I don't need that kind of energy near me. So, I decided to let go of the dress, and they took $140 off my $350 layaway price, which I find unfair as I really wanted the dress, but the whole experience was off, so I guess I'll just take the loss and move on far away from this place. read more

Buyer beware! David's Bridal has been the biggest run around, and I feel like I have been taken advantage of. Between not answering the phones, not listening to my requests, and not being transparent or honest. I bought my wedding dress almost a year ago. I tried on a size 10 off the rack (it had to be clipped back), and was told the dress had stretched out to the point that it would be "true to a size 12." At that point my specialist told me I should order a size 14 so that alterations could make necessary adjustments to make it fit me perfectly. The manager had stated the dress was a discontinued item, and the one I was ordering was the last available dress. I bought it, concerned that this dress that I loved would cease to exist in 10 month. (the dress was $700 with a discount due to it being a sale item I checked out at $500 and thought I was lucky) Flash forward to the alterations appointment. The seamstress pinned everything, and then pipped up to say "we have to take this dress in two dress sized for it to fit you" TWO MAYBE THREE DRESS SIZES!!!!! So really, I could have ordered a size 8. I was discouraged, and asked if I could just order the same dress in a size 8, instead of doing alterations. She said "no, its a discontinued item." If you want a hassle free purchase for your bridal party avoid going to David's Bridal in Kingsland Calgary. My daughter purchased a dress in a size 2, they shipped her a size 4 with no explanations or reasoning. Now, they expect her to pay 300$ worth of alterations. And all that the sales manager, who could only formulate one sentence in English could say is, "It was purchased off the rack, you can return the dress!" Knowing full well this is the dress picked by the bride that 5 other bridesmaids will be wearing. I think her fake spider eyelashes stopped her from having any common sense. We had a decent experience the first time but when we went back to purchase it was a terrible. Jessica N did not ask any questions about the wedding venue nor my expectations. Thankfully we had already chosen but wanted to try more to make sure. I did purchase there but had to find her to do measurements to confirm sizing and though another bride was offered veils, accessories and even the bell of purchase- I was not offered anything. Not even a congratulations. I left wishing I hadn't found the one here. My advice? Go for the cheap dresses but don't expect any type of consistent customer service. read more

I truly wanted to like David's Bridal, especially after the first experience I had there. My mother and I went in looking for a wedding dress for her. It needed to be something to shop off the rack for, so we didnt have overly high expectations. Our sales associate Chantelle was amazing. She treated my mom with so much respect and made it a great experience for her. We had such a fantastic time that when we were leaving, after paying for the dress, we left a review specifcally for Chantelle. While she was trying on her dress, we had alterations come down and give her a quote for removing the (small) train and hemming the back of the dress to match the length of the front. My mom was very on the fence about getting it hemmed but after hearing the price she decided to book the alterations appointment. Again, the dress fit amazing it was just the train she wanted to be removed. Today we went in for her alterations appointment. Since it was mid-week both of us had to take the day off work and we had to rush to find shoes for her to wear during the alterations. Once we got there, the alterations staff were incredibly rude. They continuously ignored that my mom was the bride and treated her so poorly. They didnt have her dress even labelled with her name, so they had a hard time finding it. This really set me off because someone else could've easily taken the dress since it wasnt labelled. Finally they had found her dress and the woman was shocked to hear that my mom was the bride. (Incredibly rude.) She refused to take the dress out of the bag to even see what it looked like. Began to measure my mother around the bust, which makes absolutely no sense since we werent having the dress changed in that area. She then gave us a quote for removing the train and hemming it which was DOUBLE the price that we were originally told. Almost the same price as the actual dress itself. Keep in mind, she still has not once looked at the actual dress. At this point, we were both incredibly fed up with the poor service that she decided to take the dress without having it altered. The staff were hesitant to give her the dress and basically told us that their policy was to give the wrong quoted price and then charge more. When we were going to leave, the woman then told us that if we were to get it done somewhere else it would be way more expensive as they were giving us a deal by lying to us. Honestly, Neither of us ever want to come back here. We have another appointment in a few days for bridesmaids and probably wont be going. Keep your pants on while trying their dresses!! I went to David's a total of 5 times for my wedding. My four bridesmaids got their dresses here. This review details my experience from beginning to end so Yelpers can get the full picture, so I apologize for the length. DO make an appointment. They get quite busy during the weekends. They DON'T require you to remove your shoes. This is flag number one. It's easy to see their wedding dresses are lower quality hence the lower prices. The styles are out of date and the organization system is a mess. The dressing area gets really camped with all the bridal parties crammed into a small, narrow area. There are no big mirrors and platforms to spread and view the dresses. Their wedding dresses as icky, yellow and grey from being overworn. I didn't dare take off my pants while trying them as they looked way too dirty! My consultant was helpful but I left David's after trying 3 dresses. I ended up saying yes to the dress at Durand. I returned a second time for bridesmaids dresses. What's nice about David's is you can browse their catalogue online beforehand. They have extensive color palettes and styles, and a dress rarely cost more than $200. Our consultant, Madison, was fantastic. She deserves gold stars for her patience and multitasking ability while she helped my three bridesmaids and other bridal parties. We were given two dressing rooms even though others were empty and eventually decided on a style. The third time was to choose a different dress for my Maid of Honor. Madison was my consultant again and was just as helpful as before. I was sad to learn she was quitting to go on a personal trip to Australia. My fourth trip was with my fourth bridesmaid who couldn't attend previous fittings. We weren't able to book an appointment and went as walk-ins. David's gave us a dressing room anyway but not a consultant. We were left to our own devices, which was fine since we already knew what style we needed. I purchased 4 dresses on this day and the process was quick and easy. I was told they would arrive in April. I was surprised to receive a call in February that the dresses were available and needed to be picked up within 7 days or else they'd be shipped to my house. I was happy they arrived 2 months early but was irked when they wouldn't book an appointment for final fittings. When we picked up the dresses (for my fifth and final visit), they asked me to sign a form to confirm the pick up. I refused to sign anything until we tried on the dresses. My four bridesmaids and mother, who wanted to try some cocktail dresses, were given one dressing room to share. Thankfully the dresses were OK, but we were ignored by staff. Thus is the end of my journey with David's Bridal. These are the few pointers I learned: - Make an appointment! - David's is great for tight budgets - David's is great for bridesmaids dresses - Go elsewhere for your wedding dress - Don't expect great service. They are way too busy and understaffed - Alterations start at $40 - No refunds. I purchased my bridesmaid dress at David's Bridal because the bride bought her dress there and I am remote (I'm in Calgary and the bride and other wedding party live in Ontario). The shopping experience was just OK. What I'm most angered by is the fact that my consultant would NOT let me get the size I wanted. She insisted that I get a size larger. There wasn't any budging, apparently. Low and behold, my dress comes in too big. I took it this morning to an alteration place just down the street from my work (because I now hate David's Bridal) to a woman who is known for her good work. She quoted me at $75. So even though the dress was modestly priced (~$160 mark), add another $75 onto that. The store itself was disheveled and felt gross. Quality of dresses seemed poor. The staff were just ok. I am sad to have to say this, since my initial experience was very enjoyable. I came back to look for reception dresses and also purchase some of their lingerie Made an appointment. Arrived on time and was seated for at least 15 minutes after checking in before my consultant came out. This was Easter Monday, store was not very busy, my girl was only dealing with us and one other group. She was disinterested, wandering away for long periods of time. Didn't offer clips or to help zip up the back of the dresses I tried. Just gave me 4 dresses and walked away. The dresses I tried on were torn and some had stains. Considering when I bought my wedding dress here, I was given the one off the rack that I had tried on, I feared one of the reception gowns I tried would actually fit and they would force me to purchase that damaged item. So the dresses themselves were a no go, no biggie, They are so well priced though! I asked for the specific corset I had in mind, didn't have my size, and when I deiced I needed to order a larger one, my consultant was up at the till doing god knows what. I wandered around the store with my sister for a bit after changing back into street clothes, since I had said my sister would also be looking for dresses during this appointment. No luck, no feigning attempt of assistance from our consultant. So I went up to order the corset in the size I needed and then inquire about booking alterations for the dress I bought a year ago from them and have at home. Let me state. David's Bridal only alters David Bridal product. I was told there was no way they could fit me in for an appointment even though I don't need my dress till Aug 14. Amazing customer service, went there with no appointment and they fit myself and 4 of my bridesmaids in to shop for bridesmaids dresses. We had one designer and style in mind that we were hoping for, but unfortunately David's Bridal only carries "David's Bridal" brand gowns/dresses. Beautiful, but slightly disappointing. The bridesmaids dresses and special occasion dresses are all grouped together, so tread lightly before getting attached - as the special occasion frocks are only available as they would be in a retail store, whatever sizes and colours they have, is all they have. I won the online sweepstakes which gave me five free bridesmaids dresses or one weding gown. I chose the five because this isn't my first kick at the can and didn't want another bridal gown to give away later. So, in a nutshell, yes! People do actually win these things and there were zero catches. Awesome! We had zero issues with the Calgary store and we were able to choose dresses for myself, my two bridesmaids (my sister and daughter), my mother and a flower girl dress for my granddaughter. The staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful. I chose a dress I didn't think I'd like, but because my consultant had a hunch, I trusted her judgment. She was right and I am so excited about my dress! The selection was great and the store was very clean and well organized. When I went in this morning to finalize our selections and hand in my gift certificate, the girls were so amazing and so excited for me. The best part was that I saved almost $1,000.00!!!! I went wedding dress shopping for my big day and tried on dresses at 4 different stores. David's bridal was by far the worst experience. No exageration both the store and dresses were filthy, and the customer service was bad. I don't know what the other stores I visited were doing to keep their dresses organized and clean, but David's bridal should learn and replicate it. Now I understand this is a discount store but there is no excuse having dresses pit stained black on display. Now about the horrible customer service. At other stores I was assigned a consultant who assisted with picking out a selection of dresses then helped me in and out of each gown. These are wedding dresses you can't lace up the back up yourself. At David's bridal I was assigned a consultant who after helping me pick out a few dresses ran off to help another group of ladies. She was too busy multi tasking to help me with the fitting or give me advice on other gowns to select. I don't fault the lady as she was heavily pregnant and was frantically trying to do her job well. I basically left the store in the middle of my appointment when I realized that I wasn't going to get assistance picking out a dress. What really annoyed me was that there were 3 other consultants socializing at the front of the store while my consultant ran around frantic doing all the work. Was there recently to pick out bridesmaid dresses for my best friend's wedding. We knew we were a bit short on time for ordering our dresses due to Covid so the lady helping us guided us to their guaranteed in stock line of dresses. The three of us in the bridal party all found dresses we liked. I had tried on a size 10 dress that was a bit snug but not bad. Once I got measured I was told that one of my measurements put me in the size 14 category. I asked why a size 14 if the size 10 I had on fit, the lady told me the sample dresses get stretched out from trying on. I can understand that but a whole two sizes bigger seems odd to me. They re-measured me and insisted that I was in the size 14 category. I asked about what would be done if it came in and the dress was too big, they told me they would rush order the smaller size if needed. When we ordered our dresses we were told 4-6 weeks for shipping which left us a tight timeline but doable. Six weeks go by and I still don't have my dress, every time I called I kept getting told it's coming but no one at the shop knows when. The dress final shows up after a few angry calls from the bride and surprise, surprise it's too big. Because it's late and I now only have 12 days before the wedding; I end up having to spend $260 to have the thing completely altered when the dress itself only cost $180. I was so disappointed with this process! I felt completely scammed into having to pay for alterations! I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

They need to have more experienced staff who are there to help you. I booked a weeknight appointment after reading the comment on the website that if you don't want to share appointment times with other parties to do so. There was only one staff member working, who was very young and didn't seem to know too much. While she was pleasant, most of the time I spent at this store was waiting for her to deal with the other party and then wait for her to pull another dress for me to try on. In all the other bridal store appointments I have been too I have tried on numerous dresses while here in the same length appointment, maybe even longer, I tried on about 5 dresses which is probably a third of what I tried on at the others. It was very disappointing. She were never there to help me do up the dress so I had to struggle in the dressing room and come out with the dress half done up. She was not there to help comment or suggest other dresses I would like because she was busy with another party, who I am not even sure had an appointment. I felt like my business wasn't wanted. When I am spending thousands of dollars in your store it would be nice that your staff could spend the time to help me with my purchase, especially when I have made an appointment... I will not be purchasing here as a result of this negative experience, nor would I ever recommend someone to purchase a dress from this retail chain. read more

Rachel was so great to work with! She helped me in and out of each dress, and totally made me feel comfortable with my body. She did a great job of pulling dresses she thought I might like. I ended up getting a dress that I had seen on the rack. She helped out with shoes and accessories too. She also had a great knowledge of the dresses in store, as I had brought some pictures with me that she knew right away weren't there for sampling (online only). She was fantastic. Yes, the store is busy and you may not get that bridal experience like Say yes to the dress, however, the prices are wonderful. I have been to both the Edmonton and Calgary locations and was not impressed with either. My sister (the bride) made an appointment in Edmonton for the bridesmaids to get dresses. The girl who was helping us was over booked and not helpful. We had to find our own dress sizes and colours. We had to help each other with the zippers and they didn't offer any clips. Once we decided on a style and colours no one measured us to make sure we were getting the correct sizes. I chose not to order my dress in Edmonton as I live in Calgary so I went to the Calgary location. I went on a Monday thinking it would be quiet. It wasn't! I had to wait 20-30 minutes for someone to help me. A women who had an appointment couldn't get any help from the girl who was supposed to be helping her so she had to leave and go back to work without ever trying on one dress. Once someone did help me I was measured and sent on my way. Today I went to go and get my dress. I inquired about alterations and the girl said I would have to book soon. She put me in a fitting room to try on my dress and walked away. And that was it. No one came to see if I needed help so I got dressed in my clothes and walked out of the store. Where wedding/ bridesmaids dresses are concerned your experience will likely be far different* Went there today to find my grad dress, and overall had a pretty good experience (good atmosphere, lots of selection, decent music, found a dress which didn't hurt, etc.) but upon going into the fitting room was surprised to see there was no mirror. Which I guess is fine, unless you're going alone and would like to not step out of the change room. Also what I didn't realize was that grad dresses/prom dresses can not be ordered in advance, but you have to find your size and hope it works for you. Of course they do alterations, but you would generally be buying it 'as-is' which can cut out a lot off dress selection if your size is sold out. I found my dress completely by fluke (as there were only 2 dresses in my size and luckily they were true to fit). I defiantly recommend checking out David's Bridal, but don't wait last minute (like me), and make sure to plan to visit a few other formal-wear places to get as many options as possible. This would be a good first-step, to get a feel for what you're interested in. read more

The girls working there are not so quick to get dresses for 2 brides and 3 bridesmaids...in the allotted time...I asked to see a manager and asked why or how this was possible...she seemed fine answering that was just the way it was. We left bought dresses else where but went back to see about a flower girl dress and they kicked me out as I upset the girl so bad she had to take sick days off..Wow unbelievable I know But truthfully the whole system David's provides is not one I would ever let my daughter experiencing for such a lovely time in her life...she should be in an area with a consultant by herself for the same time or longer. read more

Ok, where to start.... My brother is getting married next year and I am in the bridal party. The bride lives in Toronto and purchased her wedding dress from David's. She also found a bridesmaid dress she liked there, but the color she chose is a custom order from their warehouse in Florida. So I went into the store to order the dress. The girl I dealt with was nice enough, but I felt pressure to make a decision quickly so she could move on to her next client. I tried the dress on and found the top part to be very roomy. As a slightly flat chested woman, I thought I should order a size 4. She insisted that the size 6 was perfect and that the sample dress was just stretched out. I trusted her (how naive of me!) and we finished the ordering process. Since the bride bought her dress at David's, the girl wanted to put the dress under her account. So basically when the dress arrived, they would call the bride. I asked if they could just call me instead as the bride does not live in Calgary. She refused and claimed it was store policy. Alright whatever! At this point I wanted to just finish the transaction and leave. Four months later, the dress finally arrived! It was early too! Ok maybe things are looking up. I went in to pick it up. My mom came along as she wanted to see the dress on me. The lady at the front was reluctant to let me use a change room to try the dress on. She sighed, then said "Ok I guess you can use this room. But we need it in 10 minutes for an appointment" I agreed and rushed back, only to see several open change rooms. Don't see what she was so worried about. It honestly felt like she was trying to give me the dress and shove me out the door. So I try the dress on and sure enough, the size 6 is too big. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed off because the girl was adamant that the size 6 would fit perfectly and now I'm stuck having to get it altered. I already paid $160 for this dress and now have to spend more just so it isn't falling off me at the wedding. Not cool, David's Bridal. Honestly, if you want a dress for a bargain, go to David's. But don't expect a grand experience. It is clear to me that their staff are not properly trained and are overworked (hence the grumpy attitudes). Dealing with David's Bridal just seems to cause more headaches alongside the other stresses of wedding planning. read more

David's is like the Walmart of the bridal scene. There is some pretty decent stuff at fairly reasonable prices. Samples come in a wide size range which allows all body types to try stuff on. There is a LOT of stock to pick from as well which is always nice. The pricing here is probably some of the best I found because they are such a large company (1 in 4 US brides are dressed by David allegedly). They can order things quicker which is also a huge bonus if you're short on time and since they have so many sizes you're also more likely to find something off the rack. The experience isn't quite the same as other places though. Think of a fitting at Vic Secret vs trying shoes on at the shoe wearhouse. They help you, they try but the atmosphere and the level of staff to client is just not the same. You kind of need to know what you want because they are generally reacting to what you ask for verse what you might want but don't know. Even then, I knew what I want and they had me walk around and try to find it. I picked out what I didn't want because I can't tell one white dress from another on a hanger (dispite telling them what i wanted to see) and they left me to stew in my uninformed picks of styles for some time before the manager happened over and started bringing some better fits in what I wanted. The excitement to see an OK over a No dress seemed to give them too much confidence to hang out in the OK range and I never got close enough to something I wanted to wear. In the end I was put into something I liked but didn't love. The most redeeming quality was the price. I wonder if a better dress was there but I didn't know how to work to get it on me if you know what i'm saying. The advice from the alterations lady about how to make things work almost had me butching it up in a tux I was so disheartened and I later had that straightened out by another seamstress. That being said, you can probably find something here with a good price point and be happy. A good store model focuses on being the best in 2 of 3 of areas: price, quality and service. David's is going for price and quality in that order. If that works for you then great. read more

We made an appointment to find a wedding dress on a busy Saturday. The sales person gave us a very helpful walk through of the store before we went to the room to try on dresses, as there are several departments in the store. We told the sales person what style we were looking for and she proceeded to bring us three dresses that did not quite match the description we were looking for. She then started helping the girl next to us for about 30 minutes and did not bring us any new dresses. Because we had nothing better to do and no new wedding dress to try on, my bridesmaids started grabbing bridesmaid dresses. When the sales person returned, she told us that we weren't to be trying on bridesmaid dresses and that we would have to make a new appointment. When I mentioned that we had no dresses to try on and that we were just waiting for her to come back, she said that we could have been walking around the store and grabbing our own wedding dresses to try on. This would have been nice to know previously as it is very uncommon for stores to allow their customers to do this and I'm still not entirely sure that the sales person wasn't telling us false information. Also, when I mentioned to the sales person that I couldn't find the style I was looking for, she told us that they only had one dress in that style, and that it wasn't white. I decided to buy a wedding dress that I had tried on at a different store the previous day. Upon leaving the store, I made another appointment with David's bridal for the bridesmaid dresses. When I returned to the store two weeks later for the next appointment, we again received less than ideal service. It was almost as though the sales person was trying to get us in and out as quickly as possible and she did not seem to care if we found what we were looking for. We haven't decided yet, but we will likely buy the bridesmaid dresses from David's Bridal, as they are so reasonably priced and we found a dress that looked good on everyone. In summary, my overall impression of this location was that the store is very nice, however extremely busy and there isn't enough staff for all of the customers they have appointments booked for. The bridesmaid dress selection is wonderful, the wedding dress selection is lacking unless you like trumpet style dresses (as there were SEVERAL of those) and the service is terrible. Even though this store has several sections that you would supposedly be able to shop through (jewellery, shoes, bridal party accessories, veils, bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride outfits, ring bearer pillows, etc.), you should not go to this store without an appointment because if you do, instead of just receiving crappy service, you will be made to feel unwelcome and will be followed around by a sales person who basically wants you to hurry up and leave. read more

Recently bought a mother of the bride dress from David's Bridal. I called for a quote on getting it taken up by 1 inch and was quoted well over $100 . I explained the dress and they knew exactly what dress it was. You would think after the bride bought her dress and accessories and the wedding party doing the same , there would be a better service for alterations. read more

I have been very patient with David's Bridal and knew going in that if I found my dress there, I should expect a sub-par experience. And low and behold, they met my lowered expectations. Some things to consider before using David's Bridal: 1) Service is slow. The store is always busy and they will not assist you unless you have an appointment. When you have an appointment, they will be running late and they will rush you through your appointment. 2) Don't expect that bride "aha" moment. The lighting sucks, the store is ugly and there are so many people around you, you just want to get the hell out! 3) Consultants are busy, overworked and for the most part, not very knowledgeable. They get you in, make a sale, get you out, and move on to the next one. 4) They will not go over and above to make your experience special. 5) Most importantly, the staff are rude, indifferent and not very helpful. I was lucky. I knew exactly what I wanted and am not one of those bride's that required that extra service most other places provide. I found my dress at David's and did purchase it there. I will be married in just over a week and I am content with my dress. Looking back, I think I just wanted the decision to be made and over with. If I could go back and re-do the purchase, I would not give this store my business. My bridesmaids all had similar experiences when they picked up their dresses as well. I wouldn't recommend David's unless you are willing to deal with what I now consider to be the "McDonalds" of bridal stores. read more

The sales staff was nice and helpful!! BUT the entire experience at this store was completely ruined by their alterations department! The manager, Valerie, was helpful. But the actual lady who did my alterations was awful! My dress was so rushed to the point that she did not bother to sew in the bra loop (that we paid for). The cinch to make my dress look like a sweetheart was OFF CENTER, it looked like my right boob was bigger than my left. The 5 point bustle (that it was supposed to be) had to be a 7 point bustle because she screwed up and my dress looked like i had wings on the bottom. Se cut the outer (very delicate) LACE layer of my dress too short on the right side, the lining was showing. When she did put in the bra loops, they were 1cm off from the top and you can clearly see he mess of a stitch that she used. My point is, DO NOT USE THEIR ALTERATION!! Horrible horrible!! read more

I recently purchased my wedding dress from David's Bridal. It was the first time I had gone wedding dress shopping so I was extremely nervous and all my friends told me to expect to feel overwhelmed and not to get my hopes up about finding a dress early on in the search. I made an appointment for a weekday afternoon (which I highly recommend -- it's much quieter than weekends and evenings!) and I took just my mom with me as I didn't want too many opinions in the mix right off the bat. I had found a few ideas of what I liked on the David's Bridal website in the US to take with me. When I arrived, I was introduced to my consultant, Nikki, who was fantastic. She was very accommodating of my budget ($600 or less), and didn't push anything more expensive on me, and she went to pull some dresses in the styles I was looking for while also encouraging my mom and me to shop through the racks and see what else we found that I liked. She cautioned me to limit my first trip to the store to 6 dresses or so, as she said too many would make it overwhelming (and she was right!). I had been nervous about dress shopping as I'd heard the consultant always helps you change and I'm very nervous of my body around strangers, but she was happy to let my mom help me zip up and such instead. I was fairly consistent in the size I wore, at least in the David's Bridal line -- I'm 5'7" and 120 lbs, and size 4 in every dress fit pretty much perfectly. I fell in love with the first dress I tried on, then I tried the other 5 she'd pulled for me and still came back to the first one. I wanted to get my maid of honour and bridesmaids' opinions, so she offered to hold the dress for me for 24 hours. The only appointment they had left for the week was at 8 PM that night, and there was only one slot left, so she booked it for me and then told me if my bridal party couldn't come, they could cancel it for me no problem. My MOH and bridesmaids all wound up coming back with me that night and fell in love with the dress. I had a different consultant that night and it was way busier than the afternoon so the consultants were all spread a little thin...if you're looking for more one-on-one attention, I'd recommend the weekday morning or early afternoon trip, as it was a bit chaotic in the evening with so many brides and their loved ones in the store all at once. I tried a few more dresses but my bridal party and I all loved my first dress the most and I wound up buying it that same night. I didn't expect to find MY dress after just a couple of hours of browsing and trying on but it was so much less hassle than I had ever expected, which was mainly due to Nikki and her eye for what I was after. Be sure to ask for her if you book an appointment here; she is patient, enthusiastic, and doesn't make you feel rushed in any way or like it's too much to ask her to go find something else for you. And the best part, of course, was the price -- originally $700+, marked down to $549, then $499, then $399, then $349, and then another 20% off for a grand total of $279.99. I had an appointment on a weekday during the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The was my first time shopping for a dress. My consultant was great, working well with me not knowing what I wanted. The dresses got progressively better, but still nothing seemed perfect. The Store Manager saw that nothing was coming off as 'the dress', and came over with a suggestion to try on a specific dress. She was totally right. She looked at my body shape, and grabbed a dress that was amazing. I was warned about going to this store, but so far, I had a great experience for an under - budget store. read more

Beside the fact that the customer service in this place is god awful, if you do decide to order a dress from here and the sales consultant tries to convince you that you need to order a bigger size because the dresses on display are very stretched out, do not listen to them. If the display dress fits, so will the one that you order. I now have a dress that I am swimming in and will require almost $200 in alterations. They did the same thing to my sister. The lady also seemed annoyed when I told her I had my own seamstress that I would be taking it to. They are definitely trying to make more money from alterations. read more

I made an appointment for myself and my bridesmaids to shop for bridesmaid dresses. We arrived and were greeted nicely at the door, where I was asked to fill out some standard information. After wandering aimlessly for about 15 minutes our Consultant came to find us and took the girls measurements. She never asked us what we were looking for, what the budget for dresses was, or any questions really. I gave her a list of style #'s that we knew we wanted to look at, which she brought us and then disappeared. She came back once to drop off some dresses that she pulled, however, neglected to bring anything in one of my bridesmaids size. I was left to pull sizes and dresses myself. I found her once to ask her to get us a size in a dress I couldn't find myself, which she eventually brought once we were done trying on dresses. When she reappeared at the end of the appointment (totally expecting us to buy from her), she couldn't tell us what colours the dress we liked came in, how long it would take to come in (apparently anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months), or how long it takes to get a dress altered. I was disappointed in the service we received, to say the least. That being said, the other parties around us all seemed to have very attentive Consultants, so maybe it's just the luck of the draw. read more

Just had a terrible alterations appointment. The lady that was supposed to be doing my alterations kept asking me what I wanted, to take in or out. I feel like this is their job to fit me properly. It was very frustrating. After getting the dress on and realizing there was a size mix up from the store I bought in Winnipeg( thought I had a 14, dress in bag was12) she kept asking how much weight I gained over the holidays. I was already mortified the dress didn't fit and instead of helping or getting a manager kept asking how much weight gain I had and reminding me they wouldn't return or exchange. When I went to book my appointment I asked how long it would take to order my bridesmaid dresses in the colour Sangria. The worker told me no problem there is no rush as it should take 10-17 weeks to order Sangria in. Perfect... she booked an appointment for us to come in. I realized the appointment she made was way too late for these orders so I called to change it earlier and apparently she made me an alteration appointment??... not a bridesmaid dress/mother of the bride dress shopping appointment. Okay... After 1hr and 30min drive we arrive and they only offer 1 change room for 4 girls! Luckily I booked a 2 hr appointment (which they did not have on record at first). Also our consultant allowed us to use the change room next to ours until it was scheduled to be in use. 3 girls tried on bridesmaid dresses... only to be told all lace dresses cannot be ordered in Sangria colour! So back to the racks we go. All girls pick out a dress. At the till we are told that only 1 of the 3 dresses will be in on time!!!! I was soooooooooo frustrated at this point because I was told it only took 10-17 weeks max and they were telling me 16-22 weeks now! We could have come in sooner if this was the case but I was told "no rush"... So we were rushed to start over and find 2 more dresses that would come in on time. What a joke! The organization and communication is terrible at the Calgary Davids Bridal store! The consultant did not know how to measure as she measured my sister in law as a size 12.... she is a size 6-8 at most! The consultant re-sized her and determined she was a 10... so we will see... I'm positive it is not the right measurement as I was measured as a size 8 and I am a lot bigger than she is. If I could do it all over again I would not buy from Davids Bridal... such a head ache! Now I'm praying that my girls all get their dresses at the time they were told would be in because I am sure they were not measured properly and will nee alterations.... not impressed with the service at all! read more

I had a really good experience here! They had a really good selection of gowns at really nice prices. My sales associate Aly was super helpful, looking at what I liked and pulling other dresses that she thought would look good (and they did!). It was actually kinda nice that they help more than 1 bride at a time, because it gave me a chance to talk candidly about what I thought with my mom when the salesperson was helping someone else. I never felt rushed, and Aly wasn't pushy at all. Unfortunately, I found my dress at another store, but I would definitely tell other brides to give David's a try! read more
