I've been a longterm patient of Dr Jou's for many years, and honestly, I can't recommend this practice. There are many other better dentists out there, and I highly recommend looking for them before settling. Pros: it's easy. The receptionists answer the phone, they're nice, they take my shitty Delta Dental insurance, and it's super easy to book with them. Cons: they aren't actually going to care for your teeth, especially if something goes wrong. Their cleanings are super short and my teeth barely feel clean afterwards. Unsurprisingly, I developed my first cavity in years... only to have Dr. Jou absolutely butcher the filling. He left bits of filling in between my teeth and told me 'it would be fine,' and when I called back later that day, unable to floss my teeth anymore, he had to redrill the ENTIRE FILLING. I started crying when he told me; I literally couldn't believe it. I had to endure two fillings, that should have been one, and to top it off, he just filled the entire tooth so it's a big chunk of filling, rather than being rounded on the bottom and sculpted to my tooth. It still irritates me. He's never seemed particularly engaged or caring with his patients. He's been very dismissive of my concerns, both during the filling and before, when I had a sudden pain in my jaw... told me it was a 'woman thing' and I should just see a specialist. All the equipment is very old and they are often without dental hygienists (once, one left in the middle of the day and I had to come back another day because no one could polish my teeth). I was willing to put up with it until the botched filling, but that was the last straw. I switched to Fremont Hub Dentistry and the different is SHOCKING. They have all new state of the art equipment, were able to run so many more tests and preventative care for me (like a saliva test and oral cancer screening), and the dentist clearly care and explained everything to me. All for the same $5 co-pay. I'm so glad I switched. read more

I was looking for a new dentist back in 2021 when I got on my company's own insurance. Dr. Jou was one that took my insurance and had good reviews! The front desk, assistants and dentist himself are efficient and actually good at what they do! My past dentist from since I was a child for the past 10 years have gone downhill where the dentist doesn't do the cleanings anymore; they only checked for cavities. Dr. Jou does the cleaning himself and assistants do the polishing. They actually go in deep on cleanings and my teeth feel cleaner after coming, which is the whole point! Everyone is always super friendly! I've only gotten my cleanings here for the past 2 years but I'm in an out within 35-40 minutes. Props to them for text reminders, given that appointments are 6 months apart I appreciate a text reminder over a phone call! I've even recommended my sister to come switch dentists to over to Dr. Jou. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Jou for more than 3 years. Last year I had a crown on a broken tooth done by Dr. Jou. Last month, for whatever reason, the crown broke. In the past month, they removed the old crown and replaced it with a new one. While getting replacement crown took long time (3+ weeks) I was very surprised that I was not charged for the replacement. I know there is warranty for crowns and some dentists had given me warranty cards for 7 years but when I claimed it, there were always additional expenses. In this case, I applaud Dr. Jou for his professionalism and not trying to nickel and dime me. In fact, I asked how much I needed to pay for the crown and Kevin who manages the front desk said that no payment is necessary. I am shocked that they are honest, honor warranties without question and do excellent work. Kudos to you Dr. Jou! read more

Very much an assembly-line type of operation. The cleaning is done very quickly, so one wonders how thorough it is. Also, you are required during the cleaning to twist your head in an extreme and uncomfortable way, for the entire process. Haven't experienced this during cleanings elsewhere; maybe it's because the room is so cramped. The facility itself is aged. If you're looking for state-of-the-art, this ain't it. On the plus side, the office is run efficiently, and you don't encounter the upselling found at other Delta Dental offices. read more

I called to make an appointment, here's how the conversation went: - Front desk answers the phone. - I say hello and ask if they are taking new patients. - She answers "yes." - Awkward silence. - I ask if I can make an appointment. - She asks about insurance. - I tell her what I have. - She tells me I need to know if its a PPO or HMO. She will put me on hold beause she is helping someone in the office. - I tell her it is an HMO and just put their office as a provider online. - She says I don't show on up on their roster and to call back 9/1. - I ask if I call the ins company will that help? - She says she can't answer that question. - I thank her and say good bye. - She says "mmmhmm" and hungs up the phone. I won't be going to this office. As someone who worked in a medical office for 10 years, this is NOT how you treat patients. I understand she might be busy and overworked. But, I am not the one to take it out on. I was overly polite since I know how it is working at a medical office. On that note, I will respectfully not mention her name. read more

Customers beware! I've had several bad experiences with Dr. Jou. The crown he ordered for an implant was too large and rather than reorder the proper size he filed the adjoining tooth down then crammed the ill fitting crown into my mouth. Consequently I am not only unable to floss that area but he left a jagged point on the tooth he filed that causes discomfort. In addition he stabbed me in one cheek, burned the other cheek and caused a hemorrhage while cauterizing the gum around an implant. Stay safe, don't let this quack work on you. read more

This is the first time I visited Dr. Jou's office. It is a no- nonsense place and front the front desk to the dental technicians and Dr. Jou himself, they are direct to the point get the work done, tell you what to do.... No frail. To me, this is efficient and I can get out fast. read more

Like many, I too was very nervous to go to the dentist. I had not seen a dentist in years, and felt so embarrassed about my teeth but knew a visit was well overdue. I came across Dr Jou's dental office and could not be any happier. From the moment I walked in they made me feel welcome. Brittany the dental assistant was really sweet and super friendly. Dr Jou was very kind and continued to make sure I was comfortable through out my exam. Their whole team was extremely professional. Dr Jou is an excellent dentist - and a rarity, a dentist with his own practice. He's not part of an impersonal large clinic with lots of changing personnel. He and his staff are excellent in the manner in which they conduct the exams, do x-rays, and cleanings. I had my checkup and so did my 86 year old mother. I have been to about 10 different dentists in my life and several orthodontics. Dr. Jou in his team have been by far my favorite office to go to. He's fast, efficient and actually does a great job despite how fast he is. His team is great at scheduling and super nice every time I come in. I've done cleanings, cavity fillers and he's fixed my chipped crown for me. All beautifully done and well worth every penny. They tell you the education behind most procedures and the differences which I really appreciate. I hope he never leaves the Bay Area bc I'd be so sad. read more

I have a confession. Before visiting Dr. Jou it has been five years since my last dental visit. Mostly because when I had insurance I couldn't afford work off and when I didn't Have work I couldn't afford dental care. Dr. Jou was beyond friendly and caring. I needed a last minute cleaning before my flight back to Louisiana and he was able to fit me in and was patient and gentle as he broke the news that I had cavities! I felt cared for and never judged. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and reassuring. I've always had anxiety around paperwork especially when it comes to insurance and his team made the process smooth and painless. After having some not so pleasant past dental experiences, and the worst possible experience with western dental, my husband and I turned to yell. Here is where we discovered Dr. Jou, and we are so thankful we found him. He is very trustworthy, personal, and take the time to really get to know you. Western Dental told us we had 15 cavities between the two is and wanted to start work immediately, we didn't believe that and looked for a second opinion. Dr. Jou examined us and couldn't find a single cavity with either of us! From our first visit with him we were sold, he is the dentist for us. When he moved locations we moved with him. We've been going to him for years, and today he even gave our 9 month old a visual exam too. If you are looking for a dentist, look no further! I recommend everyone to go see him. read more

He's patient, careful and considerate about his patient's well being. His receptionist is very friendly and his dental assistant is super nice too. I have been here four times (including my dental check up and deep tissue cleaning) and my experience has been consistent and a good one. Dr David Jou is an excellent dental care professional. He was very gentle while performing his procedure, in fact i felt no pain at all each time I returned from a dental visit. This dentist is easy on your teeth as well as on your pocket. This place is still running like clock-work. I went in for a routine check up, six months after my visit and nothing changed in terms of service. The staff is still courteous, the appointment was quick, and the procedure was painless and very comfortable. Called in to make an appointment for the first time the girl said she will call to follow up on my mom's insurance prior to her appointment, 4 days before appointment I called in to see what's going on instead of them calling us and no answers no one will pick up the phone on a tuesday and then left a voice on Wednesday! Finally I called on Thursday and she is like oh we ever got a voice mail and sounded like ok whatever lol I cancelled the appointment only because lack of follow up and no answers! Went to Dr. Jou for my HMO dentist and I can't say enough good things about him and his service. He is honest about what you'll need done and he will explain it to you in common English and he makes sure you understand before he starts treatment. Staff is excellent and patient with any troubles you may have. Best of all, Dr. Jou DOESN'T try and sell you things you don't really need. Can't say that about pretty much any of the other DDS I've had. It seems the only complaints I've seen for Dr. Jou are about location of office (watch out pulling in and out of driveway!) and some of equipment is kinda old but works fine. If you place a higher value on the actual dental work and $$$ saved than the frills of HDTV's and the like, Dr. Jou is the dentist for you!!!. read more

I have been seeing Dr David Jou for the past 5 years. My experience with him is extremely pleasant. I am very lucky to find him. He is very trustworthy. I saw Dr Jou after a very bad experience with another dentist. That was my first dentist appointment ever, they told me I had 2 cavities and I also need some antibiotic nonsense which costs lot of money. They filled one cavity and told me the other one is small and asked me if it should be filled. I said no and also said no to antibiotic. I then saw Dr Jou; He said I need no antibiotic and I didn't even have another cavity. It's been 5 years, I never had that second cavity and never needed anything more for my teeth. The biggest thing he ever said to me was to floss regularly without missing. On some visits he also says me that I am taking good care of my teeth and keep doing it. It's hard to find such doctors who are not just trying to exploit you for money. He cares for you and your dental health. read more

I hate to be the first to be giving the bad review. I chose Dr. Jou because of the good reviews here at Yelp. Unfortunately, I can't say the same. I'm reviewing my overall experience here. 1. The building was old. The clinic was old. The x-ray machine and dental equipment were old as well. I have mixed feelings about it. 2. His dental assistant did the polishing then Dr. Jou did the cleaning. Her hands was really heavy. After she's done polishing my teeth, my gums were sore. 3. The machine was too loud it hurts my ears. This is the first time I've experienced this. 4. Dr. Jou would stop and watch the TV while cleaning my teeth. 5. The cleaning was done in less than 30 minutes. For some reason, I didn't feel like I had a cleaning after I left his clinic. First time in so many years that I felt that way. Overall, I was NOT happy. 3 days after my cleaning my gums still hurt and gotten even more sensitive. I am not going back and would find another dentist. Dr. Jou seems like a good guy but the whole experience didn't just worked out for me. I had better dental experience in the past. read more
