When Tao first came by for a free estimate, he had great suggestions to make the space look larger and more open. We wanted to try to match the existing hardwood floors we already had as much as possible. Tao immediately knew what kind of floors to use and he even had samples on hand so that I could compare them with our current floors. Tao's estimate was very reasonable and comparable to other companies I reached out to. I went with Tao because of his background as a designer and I trusted he would make sure the floors look great! It ended up being a great decision because we are very happy with our new floors! The installation process was very smooth and even finished earlier than expected. Tao stood out for how knowledgeable he was. First, he was clearly knowledgeable. Based on photos alone, he corrected me that the wood was not mahogany (as our home inspector said) but instead Brazilian cherry. I verified that he was correct with the listing agent. No other company did this. Second, he had the lowest quoted price for the job. Third, after I selected him, he was transparent about tradeoffs rather than purely trying to upsell me. For example, he quoted me on installing wood registers everywhere when I asked, but recommended I do so only in the hallways. This advice saved me $1k and delivered a result in very happy with. Yesterday I got a splinter in my foot so bad that it took me 2 hours to remove and almost debated going to urgent care. At this point, as we also have two dogs my partner called to see why this could be happening on floors so newly done. My partner called 3 times before reviving a callback only to be met with hostility and defensiveness. Apparently they were on vacation but there was no indication of this on their voicemail or website which stated they were open. We were then blamed for the condition of the floors and no help or suggestions were offered. My partner was then told "I've been in business over 20 years, I'm not worried about your review buddy" which is a shockingly unprofessional thing to say to a paying client. It appears others have had similarly poor experiences, and it also seems the owner handled those the same way he handled ours- by berating the customer, yikes! Edit: No one is trying to attack your business and I don't see anything wrong with my partner being upset after having to reach out 3 times before a callback but I do want to point out it was the owners tone that was aggressive, not my partners. I was present for the entire phone call and was shocked at the attitude coming from the person on the phone. As anyone would be, my partner was unhappy his floors are splintering to the point of injury after only 2 years. A quick internet search reveals the refinishing should have lasted up to 10 years. I'm also not sure why you felt the need to point out these were the worst floors you've ever worked on- my partner had just purchased this home and while that may be true, is an odd thing to feel the need to point out publicly and once again, and unprofessional attempt to bash a customer.

The smoke coming up through the floors was so strong we were getting smoke inhalation symptoms. Gross! But then we noticed that the smell was strongest where our floorboards had wide gaps, and we wondered if flooring might be the answer. We love the look of our historic floors, so preserving that was a big concern for us. We reached out to Thomas about sealing up the gaps with caulking and he responded the same day. He fit us in for a consult within two weeks and sent an estimate one hour after his inspection. One week later, they were in our house working. Even though it was October in Salem, he and his team came out and delivered. 3 weeks from start to finish. For a very fair price, we now have airtight floors that look exactly as aged and beautiful as they were before. We were worried that adding caulk between the boards might take away from their charm, but the team was so careful and neat in their work that you would never noticed the filling unless we pointed it out. His carpenter made very professional siding and trim repairs to the broken, split and rotted wood. Steve was upfront with me about the possible costs for these repairs/replacements. When he quoted my exterior painting job, Steve offered me the "only pay for what you need" option, which allowed me to save money by having him skip areas that were holding up well and didn't need repainting this time around.
