On vacation and from out of town my little daughter's eyes were red and looked very bad. I scrambled to look for an eye doctor near our hotel that specialized in pediatrics. From the front desk Jan to Dr. Bloch the experience was extraordinary. The front desk staff took The time to listen to me and accommodate us same day. Dr Bloch came to greet us with pretend big glasses and from there on eased my daughters anxiety, we got the care we needed and we were able to resume our vacation activities . Anyone on Vacation with children know that one of the biggest fear is to need a pediatric doctor or emergency services while away. I never felt like a stranger , my girl when asked about highlights of her vacation will say "seeing the eye doctor" he was fun and knew magic". I commend this office, the doctor and will recommend to anyone and if we lived in the area this is where I would have transferred her care! read more

The staff is very kind and the doctor answers any & all your questions about eyes in a way that makes it easy for you to understand.

I have not met the Dr nor am I aware of how well he is or is not at his job, my complaint is that after 25 minutes of waiting past my appointment I finally asked when I would be seen and was told they didn't know. They close at 5:30 and its was 5:25. The girl at the counter was very professional and polite though the woman that came out to talk to me and inform me the Dr was still busy, had a very condescending attitude, speaking loud enough "at" me for other clientele to hear- at which time I walked out embarrassed. My chief complaint is that being an emergency service dr or not, staff should inform waiting customers of the situation at hand and if they cannot be seen in a timely manner, have them rescheduled. Things happen all the time in the medical field but when you arrive early and are waiting that long to be seen with no dr or staff to assist you, I'd say poor customer service. Great for kids and adults! I brought both of my eyeglass wearing young daughters to Dr. Bloch after we had an insurance change and had to make a switch. It has been wonderful! The most impressive part was how he completely put my girls at ease and made the extensive eye exam very manageable for them. In addition, my 10 year old daughter is now a new and confident contact lens wearer and could not be happier with her improved vision! His office staff is wonderful and they have a great variety of stylish frames in all price ranges. I do not need glasses, but went to see Dr. Bloch for an eye infection after visiting my own doctor and not getting any relief for weeks. Dr. Bloch performed a very thorough eye exam (something a regular MD can't do!) and prescribed drops that cleared up the infection and reduced pain and the horrible redness that same day! I have read the other reviews about feeling like he tries to push glasses or oversell products. This has not been my experience at all. read more

Dr. Bloch is very thorough and takes the time to do a full exam and explains his findings in layman's terms. He found issues with my eyes that my prior optometrist had not noted. I felt like he really cared about getting the right diagnosis. His service was prompt and his staff was friendly and helpful. I will be taking my children for vision exams soon since he specializes in children as well. read more

I had a painful eye injury on a Friday evening and Dr. Bloch saw me right away (after hours). He diagnosed my corneal abrasion and gave me eyedrops and a bandage contact lens, which really decreased the pain I was experiencing. I was so grateful that he saw me on such short notice. I've been a patient of Dr. Bloch's for many years and have watched him grow his practice to this fabulous location in Carlsbad. Dr. Bloch & his staff have always been polite, friendly, & respectful to me. I have great respect for Dr. Bloch's expertise & have come to rely on his opinion & suggestions...never more than in the last 8 months...and here's a fine example of how Dr. Bloch goes the "extra mile" in providing quality patient care: I have a rather puzzling case of advanced glaucoma in my left eye. When all other treatments & medications had failed to keep my eye pressure under control, my eye surgeon proposed a surgery that I didn't understand & had many questions about. So, of course, I called Dr.Bloch, who has been on this roller coaster ride from the beginning, to ask for clarification and opinion on the procedure, and, he was very willing to help me get all the facts I needed to make the decision. He took it upon himself to contact other specialists in the glaucoma field to get further information; he did this for both a second AND third opinion...Scripps clinic & The Shiley Eye Center at UCSD. Of course, after these appointments, I turned to Dr. Bloch again to update him on the information I received & to get his opinion once again. He always took my calls and always listened, explained, & advised. While the surgery first proposed to me is, I'm sure, one approach, it was not the approach for my situation, and without Dr. Bloch's perserverance to get me the best medical advice possible, I wouldn't have known. I recently had the surgery at The Shiley Eye Center, my eye pressure is under control, and Dr. Bloch is involved in making sure I have the right corrective lenses to keep my eye healthy. I am so very grateful to Dr. Bloch & appreciative of all he and Dr. Weinreb at Shiley Eye Center have done for me. In my opinion, you can't find a more knowledgeable, caring, & thorough eye doctor than Dr. Bloch. read more

I took my children to see Dr. Bloch and I have to say that both he and his staff are very friendly. Dr. Bloch has a great personality and therefore, the exams went very well. Now, upon completion of each exam he determined that they needed glasses. I was shocked. My children have never had complaints about seeing far or reading. He gave us prescriptions for them and I decided to wait before ordering $300+ glasses for each. Since I felt uneasy about his prescription I scheduled second opinions and came to find out that one my eldest has 20/15 vision with no other issues. My other child has 20/20 and neither of them required a retinal evaluation (as recommended by Dr. Bloch). I was shocked and very disappointed. A nice man that but I'm wondering what his reasoning was when he prescribed glasses to children that do not require them. Never coming back. (BTW I found out that safety lenses that are recommended for children already come with a scratch resistant coating-no need to pay 45.00 for it.) read more

What a horrible place!!!!! They do not care at all how long you wait for your appointment. I waited over an hour and then the Dr. kept leaving the exam room to talk on his cell phone! The help he has are not informed at all about blended bifocals and eyeglass frames. I think he is doing on the job training. Come to find out the rudest of the bunch is his wife!!!! I only went here because a friend of mine had seen Dr. Bloch when he first opened his new office last year. The two girls he had then my friend said were great. Obviously he can't even keep good help. Stay clear of this place!!!! read more

This is by far the absolute WORST optometrist I have ever been to. The staff is rude, will ignore you until they see fit, is highly unprofessional and the Dr himself will try and hard sell you particular brands of contacts (repeatedly mentioning 'rebates' being offered) during your actual exam. I refused to purchase anything through them due to their excessively high prices and three weeks after my exam, I received a vmail from them stating that I owed them another 50+ dollars. After calling my insurance company, I was informed that the office had actually overbilled me and my insurance company the first time and they actually owed ME 10 dollars! I am blown away that a business like this can even survive. I will tell everyone who mentions needing an optometrist to steer clear of this place. Uncomfortable, unprofessional, highly overpriced, and sketchy as hell! read more

Excellent experience with Dr. Bloch! After a nightmare experience elsewhere, I found Dr. Bloch's office for my 11-year-old daughter who wanted contacts prior to starting 6th grade this year. Dr. Bloch established a great rapport right from the start with both of us; he is very personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly funny. You almost feel like it's a comedy routine, but he gets the job done ... and well! My daughter struggled getting the contacts in and out herself, though, and it was only due to Dr. Bloch's personal assistance that she was able to do it at all. He appears to be very gifted in knowing how to approach each situation with children. With careful questioning, he was able to figure out exactly what was causing my daughter's struggles and found the perfect solution to help her find success! I appreciate all that Dr. Bloch did for us. We will definitely return and recommend him to all our friends. read more

Dr. Bloch and their receptionist are both friendly enough, and I went there for an eye exam needing a perscription for both contacts and glasses, and I got what I went for. BUT, what completely wrecked this experience (and their credibility, in my opinion) is that they will try and hard sell you at EVERY opportunity. They're are exceptionally overpriced, and over the 3 times I had to go in while they were attempting to "perfect" my perscription, I had to listen to 1-2 sales pitches each time I was there. For me personally, nothing is more aggravating than someone who won't take "no" for an answer. And when I ended up having to pay way more than I expected, I called my insurance company and they told me that they don't cover the whole exam at Dr Blochs' office because his prices are so high. I paid around $100 for an eye exam, and used up over $150 insurance dollars when I could've gotten an eye exam at Costco or Walmart for around 80 bucks. Total ripoff. Dr. Bloch saved my life, literally!. When I began seeing light flashes in my eyes on New Year's Eve morning, I thought it was due to medication I had just taken for an infection. Dr. Bloch's office was closed due to the holiday, but when I called him on the emergency line, he opened up the office for me and had me come in. Finding nothing wrong with my eyes that would explain my symptoms, he looked further and finding my blood pressure was 170, he immediately called my family doctor and made arrangements for me to go to Urgent Care. By the time I got there, my blood pressure was 177 and my blood sugar was 499. I had absolutely no symptoms of high blood pressure or diabetes, and either one of those could have had serious consequences. If Dr. Bloch had not cared enough to open his office, and didn't go above and beyond to find the cause of my symptons, my outcome might have been a lot different. As a single mom, that means a lot. Not only is DR. Bloch highly experienced, he cares about his patients. read more

I only made an eye appointment with this so called optometrist because I eat lunch at Pronto's market and it would be convenient. This Dr. Bloch is the strangest man I have ever encountered. I waited 37 minutes for my appointment and the girls that work there seemed stressed every time I asked "how much longer?" When he did finally come out to get me for my exam he put me in the exam room and I could hear him talking to one of his help like she was stupid. I was so imbarrassed for her, because I knew she knew I could hear him. When Dr. Bloch came back into the exam room he proceeded to tell me how hard it is to find good help. I bet!!!!! As a business owner with 6 employees I could not imagine treating my employees in such a disrespectful manner. I cut my exam short and left without even getting a written rx for glasses. Dr. Bloch is rude, disrespectfull and has no business being in business!!! If I could give him negitive stars I would. read more
