I recently underwent two surgeries for Lipedema with Dr. Amron. I have always had fullness in my legs and arms even as a teenager when I was a size 4. In my early thirties I put on a lot of weight which aggravated the problem. For five years I tried dieting and exercising and lost a lot of weight but I didn't feel like the effort I was putting in was showing any real results and noticed that people who were exercising less than me could lose weight a lot faster. I thought it was just my body type and started looking for liposuction experts who could perform lipsocution on legs. There are not many who specialize in this area as it tends to be more complex. From what I read, Dr. Amron seemed to be very experienced in this area. When I went to see him last year, he told me about Lipedema. I had never heard of it! But everything he said rang true. Not being able to lose weigh with diet and exercise, having a family history, signs showing in early puberty. When I left his office, I started reading more about it. I also found out there are only a handful of surgeons who are really experienced in working with Lipedema patients. Dr. Amron is one of them and with arguably, the longest experience doing so. I was also very comfortable after meeting him. He seems to truly care about his patients, takes time to talk to them, explain everything and he is a very personable surgeon. I made the decision to book the surgeries a week apart and traveled internationally to LA. This is not a cheap surgery. I've wiped out all my savings but I see this as an investment in myself and my long term health and happiness. The swelling in my legs had been getting worse despite my efforts to improve my lifestyle and was already hindering me in terms of activities. I have a feeling it would have only gotten worse over time. In my opinion, this is not a very well understood disease and with very few experts specializing in its treatment, its not something you want to try to save some money on. I prefer paying more for a more experienced surgeon and hopefully a better result. I am 2-3 weeks out from both surgeries. I had the first one (calves and arms) without any sedation. It was not an easy surgery. I'm not sure if this is the case with everyone or if I just had more scar tissue than most. I had light sedation in the second surgery (thighs) and it was easier but still no walk in the park. There can be sharp pain in certain areas so go into this with realistic expectations. It is still a surgery! Recovery was also not easy. Could barely walk for the first week after both surgeries and was in quite a bit of pain. But you need to follow Dr's orders. Wear compression garment, walk, drink water, avoid certain food, get the Lymphatic Drainage Massage....etc. I am so much better now. I am still sore in some places and still swollen but I already see a big difference in my arms and calves. Not so much in my thighs yet but I'm reserving judgement since its still early in the recovery process and I've been told it takes months to see final results. I think I am losing weight too. The scale isn't showing too much difference but my clothes are getting looser. Not sure if this is a result of surgery or not. The only thing that I will say could maybe be improved a bit is follow up and helping patients understand what they might go through during the healing process. My drainage incisions on my knees have just barely started to scab and heal. I initially thought something was wrong but I've been emailing a nurse with his staff who has been wonderful and supportive (Evelyn). I have some lumps in my arms now. It was a bit worrisome initially. I have some lose skin and stretch marks seem more visible. I hope it gets better with compression. Finally, I need to give a shout out to the staff I've had the pleasure of knowing. Robin was one of my nurses and always went above and beyond to care for me during and after my surgeries (at my most vulnerable). She is what a nurse should be, compassionate and caring. I can't thank her enough. Evelyn, took care of changing my bandages the day after surgery and has been my support via email ever since. These women really care about people. Which cannot be said for all nurses unfortunately. Dr Mendelson, the anesthesiologist is the kindest human being. I had not initially planned on sedation for my second surgery. He accommodated me in an unplanned situation and was with me during my second surgery checking I was as comfortable as possible and stayed long after he needed to just to check I was doing okay. Christine in administration helped coordinate everything while I was half way around the world and worked with me to make the timing work. I have nothing but high praise and thanks for all these wonderful people. I wish I could do more to express my gratitude. Finally to Dr. Amron, thank you for everything! I have lipedema and Dr. Amron was the second surgeon I went to for medically necessary liposuction. I had three surgeries with him. At the first pre-op appt., he said he wouldn't be able to do both body parts that were on my quote (and that I had already pre-paid for). I asked his assistant about this and assumed it would be a credit on the next surgery. I was nervous about pain because I had already had a previous bad experience with a different surgeon. I opted for 'twilight sedation'-- which meant an anesthesiologist would be there to give meds to make me more comfortable, but I would still be able to follow Amron's orders. At one point, the anesthesiologist was talking to me and said something like, "Isn't this great? Everyone should do this." (we had talked about my prior bad experience and he was trying to make me comfortable.) Amron snapped at him, "Don't say that! Don't say that!". I was so embarrassed for the anesthesiologist. It seemed highly unprofessional for Dr. Amron to be chastising another doctor in front of the patient. The worst part was after the surgery. I almost thought I was being punked when he said he only got just over a liter out--- I even asked him to repeat it. There was some type of confusion between the staff at the waiting area where I had checked in and my family was waiting for me. When the nurse wheeled me out to be met by my family, they weren't there. I was put in an empty, dark room and totally forgotten about. One and a half hours later, I realized that fluid from my surgery was leaking down my legs into my crocs and I knew no one was ever going to come back and check on me. There wasn't anything in the room I could even use to clean it up with, so I got out of the wheelchair, opened the door, and started wandering in the hallway. Finally someone came up to me and I explained that I was a patient of Dr. Amron and had had surgery and needed to get to where my family was waiting for me. Even after this experience, I went on to have two more procedures with him. I was afraid of my insurance questioning why I was again changing surgeons, since I already had to get their approval to switch to Dr. Amron, who was supposedly the lipedema expert. I was in tears after meeting with him the day before my second surgery. He refused to see why I should have a credit from the first surgery. He finally screamed, "I just want to do surgery!". He is a business owner who doesn't want to take care of his business. His coordinator had promised me free garments for this surgery and he went out and talked to her and then came in and said I could have the $2000 less, but not free garments. Well--a) I was OWED the $2000 I overpaid since he couldn't do both line items as stated from the first surgery and b) I had already brought my own garments, knowing full well I didn't trust anything that was happening at this office. He refused to even look at the paperwork I had brought with me to explain the whole mess. Furthermore, I asked him to do my whole arm as I had been diagnosed with lipedema down to my wrists and he wouldn't look at the notes from the specialist I had seen. I wanted to cancel my next surgeries, but I knew I'd be out the money for the second and I didn't trust his office to document in a timely manner, that I wanted to cancel the third one. I decided to just get the surgeries and be done with him. I cried through my second surgery because I couldn't believe how little he truly cared about me and my experience. It was a nightmare to get the paperwork I needed to submit to my insurance company. His office lost not just one, but TWO sets of my 'before' pictures-- where I was basically naked except for a little bit of blue paper. I was appalled at the thought of these pictures being 'lost'. There is no way to get in touch with Dr. Amron. It's as if as soon as you're done, he doesn't want to hear from you. I had a reaction to something after the first surgery and I literally couldn't reach him, except to go through his coordinator. I finally did get a call from him about three months after my last surgery, but it was only because I screamed at his office manager and demanded to speak to him. This is no way to run a business. I've had better follow-up from my podiatrist after foot surgery! After everything I went through, the final straw was receiving flowers from the Roxbury Institute. Some might see this as a nice touch, but honestly, to me, it felt like a slap in the face. Sorry that we lost two sets of nearly-naked pictures, sorry you paid over $30K and only had 5L out, sorry that we reduced you to tears on multiple occasions and repeatedly caused you stress, but hey- have these tulips! Just take the advice I didn't take- don't pick Dr. Amron. I hope this review will help stop someone else from making a huge mistake. read more

He could have chosen any field, but he chose lipedema and I'm so glad he did. There really aren't enough words for what I've been through. I was severely botched by Jaime Schwartz and I lost hope and trust in doctors. Honestly, the thought of another surgery and meeting another doctor name me feel ill. I feel like I hit rock bottom and I'm still recovering from what happened to me as I have permanent damage and pain. I didn't know what to expect when meeting Dr. Amron and immediately after the first five minutes of meeting him, I knew he was the real deal. He has a very straight forward personality and won't bs you. Most surgeons are very kind and salesmany, but my experience with Dr. Amron felt different. I feel like he's a mix of an artist and a scientist and a really good human that doesn't sugar coat anything. He pointed things out on my legs I've been showing surgeons for years and them doing nothing about it. I've probably met around 10 plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills and none of them understood my legs, the fat on my calves, and the issues I've been having from my previous surgery. For the first time a surgeon looked at my body as a whole, rather than sections. I'm disproportioned and Dr. Amron was honest and straightforward with me about what my body looked like and what he could and couldn't do. He was also the first surgeon to ever touch my legs during a consultation. My previous surgeon never touched my lipedema areas until the day of my surgery when he was marking me. My legs appear thick and muscular, so doctors I had met just said I had a lot of muscle and needed to lose weight. This isn't correct, I have a ton of lipedema fat and it's so painful and it's getting worse. Unless I starve myself, each year my body is expanding. I'm stage 2 and it runs in my family. Dr. Amron has treated me with so much dignity and education. He heard me, he remembers me and my case and my treatment plan, and I can tell he really loves helping people. From him, I've learned why medical-grade compression is SO important and how it can affect your results, about the release of fibrous tissue, why local anesthesia is better because you have to stay in the safe plain of tissue, why the numbers liters of fat is not the most important thing to care about, and so much more about the disease. His liposuction technique is gentle and he stays in the safe plain of tissue. My previous surgery I was so beat up and I was liposuctioned in areas I didn't give consent, and it was so rough that my muscles were damaged and I have deformities. His team is compassionate and gentle. I don't feel like they're sizing me up. They're sensitive to the trauma I've been through and I truly feel supported and that they all want the best for me. I'm very emotional and when I'm in Dr. Amron's office, I feel safe and I think it's because the communication is so good. I would cry so much to my previous surgeon because he didn't want to hear that he did something wrong and dismissed me for being emotional. Anyone would be an emotional wreck after being physically damaged for the rest of their lives. I feel like if something went wrong, they would do everything they could to help me. Evelyn, his patient coordinator has had two surgeries, Alena his photographer made me feel really comfortable (I have trouble getting naked in front of people), Tina his MLD therapist is a genius when it comes to post-surgical issues, and it just really feels like a true center and team. His office is beyond beautiful, it feels like what I imagine the Four Seasons to look like. I've done my research and have reached out to several of his patients and they've all been incredibly helpful with helping me make my decision. Someone like me who's already had surgery has to be very careful. I can't risk anything else going wrong. I've spent everything I have and given so much of my life up to just get my body fixed. I had struggled with my weight my entire life and when I started to workout and eat clean I began to lose weight. I lost about 30lbs and realized that all of the weight came out of my stomach, chest, and face. My legs and arms didn't budge at all! I was only 16 when my mom started to research stubborn fat and how to get rid of it. Through all of her searching, my mom found Dr. Amron and Lipedema. I had never heard of Lipedema but when I read about all of the symptoms I knew I had it. I was experiencing pain and circulation issues for as long as I could remember. We immediately booked an appointment and got in a week later. From the second I walked into the Roxbury Institute I felt so welcomed. Every single person showed genuine care for me, including Dr. Amron, his nurses, the front desk girls, and Sherine his amazing social media manager. In my first appointment, Dr. Amron spent a long time explaining what Lipedema was and talking about what would be the best treatment for me. He recommended that I get circumferential liposuction on my thighs, calves, ankles and upper arms to remove the diseased fat. After the consultation I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. It was so reassuring to know that it wasn't my fault that I couldn't lose the weight in the stubborn areas! My first surgery was done on my thighs. I was super nervous because it was the first surgery I ever had. I was his first patient of the day and the surgery started bright and early. Before surgery, Lisa his nurse explained what exactly would happen and helped to calm my nerves. She was so sweet! I had the anesthesiologist so I was awake and aware during the surgery but I was pretty out of it. I hardly felt any pain at all and the 3 hour surgery felt like it was only 15 minutes. Once I was out of surgery, I stayed at the Roxbury Institute for about an hour and then headed to my hotel. I was in a little bit of pain after but I was able to walk the same day. I had a post-op appointment the next day and my legs were very swollen. They swelled up to be a little bigger than they were to begin with. I was a little nervous and convinced that the surgery didn't work on me (even though I saw the 3 liters of fat he took out of me!!) With liposuction, the results take a while to show so I just had to be patient! I had my second surgery 12 days later on my upper arms, calves and ankles. I decided to not have the anesthesiologist this time and it still went extremely smooth! I had "laughing gas" that I was in control of that helped with the pain. I did feel some discomfort during the procedure but everyone in the operating room kept checking on me and made sure I was doing okay. This surgery went for 3 hours as well. After the surgery was done I felt so happy to have it in the past. Lipedema had affected my life for years and I finally got it taken care of! When I woke up the morning after, I was expecting my arms and lower legs to be super swollen but they ended up being noticeably smaller. I got so excited when I saw them for the first time! It has now been 5 months since my surgery and I have seen HUGE improvement. After about 6 weeks I started to see changes and ever since then I've continued to see more results. My circulation and pain has gone down a tremendous amount and I've been able to do so much more. I've been working out and continuing to eat healthy and I finally see a difference in my body! It's an amazing feeling to finally see the results that I've been working so hard for. I cannot thank Dr. Amron and his team enough. I found Dr. Amron after searching for hours on the internet. I had botched lipo done here in Edmonton by an incompetent doctor who in my opinion should not be allowed to continue performing this type of procedure. I had been told by 2 independent doctors that Dr. Barry Lycka had deformed my body and my only solution would be to undergo a tummy tuck, something I was NOT prepared to do. I knew in the back of my mind that there was someone out there that could help me ( even slightly ) and I arranged to have Dr. Amron perform his revision technique on me. I'll try and make this as short as possible without excluding any pertinent details. I arrived in Beverly Hills at approximately 2.30 on Wednesday January 26/ 2011 and had an immediate consultation with Dr. Amron. Although he had seen my photographs he explained to me that my results probably wouldn't be as good as he had previously thought. He told me that I had a 75% chance of SOME improvement and a 25% chance of NO improvement. I appreciated his honesty as ANY chance of improvement....no matter how slight would make me happy. Shortly after I was taken into his O.R. and the surgery began. Some parts of it were slightly painful but I didn't care. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10....I'd say my discomfort level was about 2. It was over before I knew it and I was cleaned up and put into a compression garment and sent back to my hotel with a fantastic nurse called Linda. She couldn't do enough for me and I really appreciated her being with me. We went to Rodeo Drive and window shopped until I got tired then back to the hotel where she changed my dressings and I went to bed. Then Dr. Amron called my room to check on me and see how I was doing. I don't think he was very happy when I told him I'd walked around for three hours and he instructed me to come to the office tomorrow so he could check on me. Shortly after the call.....my freezing wore off and I had to take some Tylenol 3s or I wouldn't have slept at all from the pain. I had a rough night but survived it and was in Dr. Amrons office at my scheduled time. He looked at me and didn't seem very optimistic about how I looked and told me that the results would not be apparent for a few months and that I may have to eventually get a tummy tuck. I got new compression garments....went back to the hotel and put one on with the help of a maid. It was TIGHT! ( Before I put it on I had a shower ) and since that shower I've only given myself sponge baths as I dread putting that compression garment on. Anyway.....THIS is the good part. Yesterday I removed it and had a good long look at myself from all angles in a full length mirror and believe me.....THERE IS DEFINITELY IMPROVEMENT!!!!! It's been less than a week so I know it will only get better. I am absolutely delighted with what Dr. Amron has done for me and can honestly say that he has changed my life. I would go out in a bikini TODAY....that is how confident I feel about the appearance of my previously deformed torso. Dr. Amron is NOT THE LIPEDEMA SPECIALIST that he claims to be. I am a Physician Assistant and did extensive research to find a surgeon that specializes in lipedema. I needed liposuction on my lower body especially on my thighs and above my knees. I made an appointment with Dr. Amron and during our consultation, he was extremely confident. He spoke intelligently about my condition medically and aesthetically. He assured me that he could get great results and remove 5 liters of fat in one procedure. He said the surgery would help alleviate the pain in my knees. I was so relieved to have found the right doctor. Oh, was I wrong! The procedure was extremely painful. It was done under local anesthesia, meaning I was awake throughout the procedure. I was crying and shaking, it was so unbearable. I was close to blacking out from the trauma and pain. The pain seriously haunts me until today! When it was over, I wanted to see how much fat was taken out. The nurse pointed to the canister that had lots of fluid and blood but not much fat, and it was only a total of 2.5 liters! When I voiced my concern, Dr. Amron said he was also surprised that he didn't need to take out more. I was sent home with instructions. I wore expensive custom compressions ($400 for 2) for one month, walked 2 miles a day, and saw a lymphatic masseuse for $275 for a 30 minute session. I waited patiently for the swelling to go down and after one month, THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE. At my follow up visit, Dr. Amron said he was "perplexed" and that he would think about what to do and call me soon. He didn't get back to me for months. Then, he had me see another doctor to see if I did in fact have lipedema and if I had fluid trapped which would prevent him from doing another surgery. She confirmed that I did have lipedema and showed that I had fat that could have been removed. Dr. Amron insisted I wait at least one year before he would go in again for a second procedure but I lost complete trust in him. I wanted my money back so that I can get this procedure done with a more qualified surgeon that would actually produce results but he refused. He offered half the surgeon's fee or to do the surgery again at no cost. I spent over $10,000 and 2 weeks off of work for the worst pain and NO RESULTS. It has been almost a year and a half since my surgery on March 31, 2015 and based on my before and after pictures, measurements, and weight there is still absolutely NO CHANGE except that I am left with pigmented scars, trauma from the excruciating pain during surgery, and a loss of my hard earned money. Hello, this is my first time reviewing a physician and I'm happy to provide it. I suffer from Stage 2 lipedema and have had it since puberty. I have had two liposuction surgeries with Dr. David Amron: the first one was for calves, ankles, and full arms in October 2016. My upper calves are 4 inches smaller than pre surgery; my mid calves are 3 inches smaller; and my ankles are 1" smaller. My arms are less bulky and even look slim under long-sleeved tops. I can now wear jackets and fit into the sleeves with ease. Simple things like taking a top off over my head is much easier than it used to be before I had the arm surgery. I am very happy about these results. My second surgery was at the end of January 2017 on my thighs. I have lost 2 inches on my mid thighs. I have no pain nor am I any longer sensitive to touch on my arms or legs. Dr. Amron is a genuinely caring physician and person who is artistic in his approach to removing lippy fat. He never rushes his patients during the consultation or surgery. I have never met a surgeon who was more passionate about what he does or more compassionate towards patients. I researched and followed Dr. Amron for over a year before I made the decision to have him do my surgeries, and have not regretted this choice. Dr. Amron has researched this disease for many years and continues to enhance his and other's learning about specific procedures to help the 11 million North American women who suffer from this debilitating disease. The Roxbury Institute's nursing staff and administrative staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable. Nicole, the patient coordinator is extremely organized and is a pleasure to deal with. Evelyn, the medical assistant is helpful and caring. Robin the head nurse is thorough and helped me prepare for the surgeries and provided my after care. I felt safe in their hands and in the surroundings. They gave me with good advice and helped me feel relaxed. My experiences have been great and I look forward to many years of lipedema free living. In addition to these surgeries, I recently had a new treatment, Bodytite, on my forearms to tighten the skin, and from all appearances at this time, this new innovative semi invasive RF procedure seems to be working to tighten the skin. Dr. Amron, you rocked my world! Since I met you a year ago, my life has so dramatically changed for the better that words cannot fully express my joy and elation. Each day is filled with immense gratitude for how fortunate I am that our paths have crossed. My quality of life has improved 100% since my lipedema surgeries. I am eternally grateful. My Lipedema journey began at 12 yrs old. It went undiagnosed for over 50 years. I had all the classic symptoms, and it was getting progressively worse every year. I met Dr. Amron in November, 2023, and it's that day my new life began... at age 70. I was in constant pain and never knew why. I had to walk down stairs, and I remember holding onto the railing and my husband as I painfully maneuvered down the flight of concrete stairs. Just last week we went back to the same restaurant, and I said, "John, watch this!" as skipped down and back up the stairs and did a little turn when done!
