I have been using an optometrist in Texas because I have had quite a bit of difficulty finding a good optometrist in Hampton Roads who is also in-network with my vision insurance carrier. However, my search is over. Dr. Dragon and his staff are highly competent and an overall pleasure to work with. Not only is Dr. Dragon very pleasant to work with, but he is extremely knowledgeable about a variety of option to benefit those with difficult vision needs. In addition, both his nursing staff and office staff have been an outstanding team with which to work. Most understand that you can have a good physician, but we know how the staff can ruin the experience. However, with Southern Eye Care, this is not the case. I am extremely satisfied with the care I have received through Dr. Dragon and his team, and I highly recommend them!

It was a pleasant and enjoyable experience to visit an optometrist today for the first time in…read morealmost 4 years. I work in software near Tidewater Drive, and with my company's provided Cigna/VSP health and vision insurance I wanted to visit a new doctor to do my eye inspection, as my last was rather basic at the nearby Walmart. Given that I scheduled my appointment for 8:45 AM right after they opened the lobby was not very busy. I recommend calling to schedule an appointment for an eye exam, as it can save you a hassle from driving and arriving in person only to just be given some paperwork before leaving. I drove there first to find it in person from Google Maps; Suite 41 where you can find him is directly next to a T-Mobile. The paperwork was easy enough and I felt in good company with the kindly receptionists and saleswomen showing me the different brands of glasses and helping with my examination. The wait was relatively quick at only ~30 minutes, and the exam itself was only about another 45 of inspection work with an assistant and waiting for Dr. Dragon himself to come in to help. It all went well and felt smooth, and really I think the longest part may have just been me digging through the different brands and trying some on to find the best "style" for my face! 10/10

The office itself can be a pain to get into as it is on the corner of Battlefield and Kempsville, but once you are inside, the pride and care in their practice is obvious. The waiting area is open and bright, and the glasses looking/fitting are is bright, warm, and inviting. I showed up about 10 minutes early to my appointment and was called back on time. I opted to have the retinal imaging as opposed to the standard eye dilation, and was surprised at the cost as it was $5-$10 more expensive than my kids' optometrist. I will say, the doc was thorough and listened, and did not seem rushed to get me out of the office. I received a good discussion on the results of the exam, and then was given everything I needed to request a referral from my primary care for follow up appointments. Overall a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend them.

I've had a vision exam here as well as purchasing classes for myself. Exam wise I recommend 100%. However, I would NOT RECOMMEND this place for glasses. My son has had numerous vision and eye testing here. He currently has vision therapy every Tuesday for 12 months. They're giving him excellent care for this. You do have to pay out of pocket, they do not accept insurance and it's extremely expensive. I also purchased glasses for my son through them last year and it's process was subpar. The opticians were not very pleasant. They didn't seem very attentive. For me, my glasses have been back ordered, which is fine, but they don't do well reaching out to the customers to keep them in the loop. I had to call several times to inquire about my glasses. Takeaway: definitely get a eye exam here!! Go somewhere else for glasses!!!
