When we were looking for a contractor to do a major kitchen renovation, we interviewed David Telem for the project. We immediately felt comfortable with him. He listened to our ideas and answered all of our questions, with a great deal of patience. David communicated with us almost daily. The job foreman, Julio, was there to coordinate all of the different workmen. They were always punctual, incredibly polite and respectful. All of them were very skilled and they provided top notch craftsmanship, using quality materials. David was always available to answer our questions, sometimes "after hours" and on the weekend. This is the second time I've used Dave's Remodeling. The first was a small powder room that included new flooring, vanity, toilet, two recessed lights, and paint. I was so happy with the work, I hired Dave's Remodeling again to do a much larger project, renovating the master bathroom. I can't say enough about this contractor. He's fair, super organized, and reliable. There was no waiting for workers to show up. They arrived as scheduled each and every day. He promptly responded to every phone call or text. When I hesitated on decisions about the scope of work, he gave me great advice, not based on selling me, but because he knew what it would take to create a bathroom I was happy with. (I should also mention he counseled me against some work I initially wanted in the small powder room re-do and he was right). Now about the work: It included new flooring, a new shower, and tile work throughout. The workers are skilled, efficient, and respectful of the fact that they're invading your home. Their attention to detail was amazing. The tile work is absolutely beautiful. You can see every penny of the cost in the quality of work they did. Now for some work they did without even asking: My bathroom has an access to plumbing that was previously covered with a clunky piece of wood. I didn't even think about it, but Dave and his guys changed it up to a sleek cover that you hardly see. The floors had to be laid under a built-in chest of drawers in the closet and they managed to get it done without taking apart the built-in. When the shower door guy showed up to measure, he took a leveler to the shower, and it was perfectly level so I had no problem with the shower door installation. When they had to work around some existing plumbing issues, they consulted me, and solved each problem in the best possible way. I highly recommend Dave's Remodeling with no reservations whatsoever. read more

Dave's team found the source of the leak, made the required repairs, and did any excellent job in restoring the stucco and drywall and painting that was amazing. We are so happy we went with Dave for our HUGE 650 sq ft addition + kitchen remodel. He was the only contractor we interviewed who promptly sent us an estimate, and from the very beginning he was straight-forward and honest with us about roughly how much the project would cost, and how long it would take. We appreciate Dave's calm attitude, and his communication style. He always calls us back promptly when we have questions. We also loved Julio, his foreman, and Julio's crew. They were super nice and willing to listen and execute on whatever our design plans were. We recently completed a fairly large job with David and his team and the experience was fantastic. His quote was competitive and well detailed, he was very responsive, and the work he and his team performed was high quality. The work included making an addition to the home with conversion to a tankless water heater which was relocated to a different site in the house as well as a shower remodel and the creation of a pantry. David and his team made the addition look flawless (so nice that we now want to update the rest of the house to match the level of his work). As with all construction jobs in a 50+ year old house, there are always issues when you open up walls or floors, but David always brought them to our attention promptly and explained the solution in very understandable terms and was able to address them in a cost efficient manner. David helped us plan and design, and then carried out the total transformation of our master bathroom. (I'll try to post a photo above.) This involved the demo, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, marble tile, installation, drywall, painting -- the whole shebang. Followup March 2018: The walls of the new construction were insufficiently joined/sealed, so that when it rains, rain comes right in through the cracks between the boards. When it is dry, dust and dirt blow right in. I had to have a handyman come and caulk at several places. 2017: To his credit, David Telem called me after the job was finished, to apologize for his behavior throughout the project. He acknowledged that he had been "belittling the project", that "it shouldn't be a big deal to come back and do a couple of touchups", and that he "should have been professional and should have treated you with respect". All of which I agreed with. Which is to say, he had been belittling the project, making a big stink about doing touchups, behaving unprofessionally, and treating me with extreme disrespect. I did not see any mention of this kind of abusive behavior in his other reviews on Angie's list or Yelp, which indicates that he doesn't treat everyone this way. I have to wonder whether he just felt like venting unrelated frustrations and I seemed like a safe target because I'm a single, extra-small, senior woman. I hope he picks on someone his own size next time. I hired him to repair and upgrade a 128 square foot, enclosed gazebo that is my exercise and crafts room. They replaced much of the wood on the lower part of the outside, replaced the front door, and replaced the flooring with cork under a good-quality laminate so that it would have some give for exercising. His workers were fine; it's only Dave that was incredibly obnoxious. Belittling: he kept repeating, "This is a very small job for us." What is the point of that? Once you accept a job in the first place, you should treat it with respect. "Touch-ups" I had to request: after they painted the greenish-brownish treated wood with ONE coat of white paint, the green-brown was really showing through. I asked him if they could please give that a second coat of paint. His response: "Well, if you wanted it to look nice, you should have told me." (???) After they painted the exterior, I noticed there was a section with gap that sunlight came through, about " wide by 2 feet long. I asked him please to have the workers caulk the gap. His response: "you keep asking for all this extra stuff!" Caulking a gap, and a second coat of white paint over brown wood, are not included in a painting job?? On the day he came by to ask me for the final payment even though they HADN'T FINISHED, I mentioned that it's standard to make the final payment when the job is FINISHED. Well, he threw a fit, and was whining and lecturing me, "you keep asking for all this extra stuff" and "If you wanted it to look nice, you should have told me", and on and on. I finally asked him, "Seriously? Do people usually book a remodel because they DON'T want it to look nice?" and he really had a meltdown and started YELLING AT ME. I caved and paid him the final payment just to get him to leave. How incredibly unprofessional. I am happy with the way the gazebo looks now, but it would not have turned out so nicely had I not requested, and then insisted on, the corrections that obviously needed to be made. It was NOT a pleasant experience and I will NOT be hiring Dave Telem again. If you do hire him, remember: making the project "look nice" is not taken for granted; you need to specifically request it. read more

I randomly found David on Houzz and liked his project photos. When I was in the early stages of considering a home remodel project, I got preliminary quotes from a bunch of contractors that friends had recommended to me, but ended up going with David because he seemed organized, responsive, and his references checked out. Even though his timeline was twice what other contractors quoted, David still provided the most value. Overall we are very happy with the way our house turned out. He pretty much came in on time and on budget and there were only relatively minor obstacles along the way. Whenever there was an issue, David would resolve it. As with any contractor you hire, you must do your due diligence, have constant communication, and be on top of it. Things aren't going to be perfect no matter how much you try, so just bear that in mind. If you are storing your belongings in the house during construction, do yourself a favor and make sure everything is wrapped up well, otherwise it will be covered in dust when you move back in. We learned this the hard way. A couple times the crew forgot to close a window when they left for the day, but for the most part they were responsible and wonderful to work with. Julio the foreman is a really nice guy and knows his stuff. Everyone who has come by to see the new house has only wonderful things to say. Dave's Remodeling completed a major remodel project for us in Burbank recently which included complete kitchen and bath remodel which involved removing a wall, moving windows, removing an exterior door, building a brand new bathroom, flooring and painting. David is knowledgeable, very responsive and we found his pricing to be more reasonable than other big brand construction companies. His crew showed up on time everyday and were very professional and respectful which was important because we were living in the house throughout the remodel process. Several issues came up during the project but we were able to work with David and find resolutions. From time to time, he recommended some additional upgrades/changes but always gave us time to consider, do our own research and never tried to push anything on us. The most important thing is they completed the project on time and took care of scheduling all the city inspections, etc. Our only issue was with one of the subcontractors that did electrical work for us - they were sloppy and showed up at inconvenient times.
