My family and I absolutely love Dave's hot chicken. The three of us will come altogether and get two different meals to share as our go- to order. We get the Dave's mini slider meal with french fries and then an order of the Dave's not chicken cauliflower bites. For sides we've only ever tried the mac & cheese, but it was really good and we liked it a lot. We come here a lot for a quick dinner or a quick lunch in between classes and always has the spot. The restaurant itself is always very clean and never too crazy busy which is nice. I've been a fan of Dave's Hot Chicken for a while now, and unfortunately, my visit to the Rochester location didn't meet the standard I've come to expect from the brand. The chicken didn't appear to be cooked to order -- both tenders I received were warm at best, not hot, which is a telltale sign they had been sitting for a bit. On top of that, the seasoning seemed hastily applied after the fact, rather than fused into the crispy coating as it usually is when done fresh out of the fryer. As someone who typically orders medium spice, I was surprised (and not in a good way) when my second tender tasted like an extra hot. It was nearly unpalatable and felt like a clear miss on quality control. Overall, it just didn't feel like the same care and consistency I've come to appreciate from Dave's. In total we spent around $80-$90 between meals and drinks. The portions are huge and in many instances can possibly be shared. The slider, much to my surprise, was enough for a meal. The tenders were super crispy and flavorful. They were a little too spicy for me- but I'll get the mild tenders next time. We went through the drive- thru- service was fast. The meals were $13/each. Chicken had the crisp and juiciness of Raising Cane's and the flavor of the best Nashville Hot. The slaw was icing on the cake! Pickles crunchy and moist. Mac and cheese was tender and saucy. We heard that Dave's hot chicken had opened but didn't really know when. We decided to order online and pick up. When arriving the place was justifiably crowded which should make the owners happy. I can't talk about the ambiance because I didn't pick up the food and we ate at home. We have only heard a little bit about the food so we went into it with no preconceived ideas!! Since we didn't know how hot is hot we went with 1 medium, 1 mild, 1 light mild, 1 no seasoning (which wasn't a favorite but still good tasting chicken) my family and I absolutely loved the chicken sandwiches! The spice is like a rub giving you flavor throughout the whole sandwich! The Dave's sauce is just a slightly different sauce than others making it a pleasant accompaniment to the chicken. My sandwich has the kale slaw on it and it remained crunchy and flavorful withstanding the 30 min drive home. There online completion speed is quick fast for a place that is so busy. Quick tip, if you order online.
