This was my first time trying the ever so hyped Dave's Hot Chicken, and it was good! The flavors were not exactly what I was expecting, but it was fun to try. Really good portions and very delicious looking presentations! The service was excellent, very nice people working here, and the restaurant itself is so cool and fun with the artwork! read more

The chicken was ok. Nothing to rave about. Will not be going back! I would like for their chicken to taste batter!

Updating to add few pics. Today I went after the lunch rush, and the young man running the register was friendly and delivered great customer service! The ambiance is definitely industrial cool, but the graffiti artwork really is unique and very LA vibes! read more

It was my first time trying daves hot chicken. I really enjoyed the bright graffiti on the wall it makes the place pop. The employee was really nice when taking our order but I feel they need 2 cashiers at the time. It was very busy Thursday night and she was the only one taking orders. I ordered a Lucky Charm shake and I do wish more lucky charms came with it. The loaded fries were very good but our order was a little messy as the container had food stains all over it and inside the bag. The slider was very tasty. The chicken had a nice spicy kick flavor on the medium. I love the pickles. The chicken was very soft and well cooked. read more

Absolutely love this location!!! The staff are so friendly and it's generally very clean.

Stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered to go. My son got the two-tender meal, and I ordered the two-slider meal both mild. The chicken was well cooked, flavorful, and not too spicy for our taste. The service was good; the young man who took our order was friendly and polite. They play music, but it's not too loud, and we enjoyed it. It's a great little spot to grab lunch if you're in the Esplanade, and there's outdoor seating available if you prefer. read more

First time at this location and I'm so glad it was just as good as the other one in Port Hueneme. Restaurant was clean and busy. Even with it being busy my order was taking quickly and my food was hot and fresh. Jacob was great and then Faviola was super nice and helpful when I was ordering. Even asked if I needed help out because I had my baby in my arms. Thanks again! read more

Went in today after a long day of work hungry Got my food and went home Got home opened my box and realized I was given the wrong order in the correct bag (number). I was upset naturally as I had to drive all the way back. When I went it in Jacob helped me and took accountability for the order being wrong. I appreciate his customer service skills but do wish I was compensated for my time the food was a little cold and at least a free drink would've been nice. Once again thank you to jacob for making the situation easier for me l appreciate it! read more

It was our first time trying Daves Hot chicken, and honestly pretty good! We were nervous from seeing some negative reviews and honestly don't understand why. It was so good! We have had various hot chicken meals at different restaurants and this has moved to the top. I do wish the meals came with a drink, I feel that it is more pricey than competitors but it is worth it but that can be a deal breaker for some. I love the slushy drinks too. The spice levels and breading were really good! Customer service was very friendly considering we were new and she was patient, I did not like though they ran out of plastic knives and my son was bummed out no ketchup when they served fries as not everyone likes fries with the sauce. The kale-slaw was also delicious. Definitely worth a try and plan to come back. read more

Clean space. Friendly service. I have had the chicken before but this time we tried the Dave's Not Chicken, the cauliflower bites were so good. I am hooked. If you don't eat meat, this is a great option. For a fast food restaurant, they are in the upscale side of the service and food. You can order using the app for faster service. read more

This place is an absolute gym! Worth every dime. I did place the order on line and was given an estimate ready time of about 15 mins. That sounded great to me! However it did take about 40 mins to get my food. Had I been given this time I would have run a few errand's. The place seemed completely under staffed, only one restroom was open and the store was an absolute mess. Had I walked into this I would have walked out immediately. My food, the chicken and fries were amazing! The fries were cooked to perfection and not even soggy, still crispy. I also had the single tender spicy. Everything was cooked to perfection! I wish a spicy sauce was an option. I would totally pass on the Mac and cheese nothing special at all. I would definitely order again but be more mindful of my time. read more

Been waiting to try Dave's for a while so I was excited to finally order it! I like spicy food but not overly spicy. So I ordered the one slider and one tender combo with fries. I was shocked that it was so sweet. The mild just tasted like a sweet chicken tender and then the medium tasted like the smallest hint of spice. The fries were just ok but something all this food was lacking was salt!! And well spice read more

MANAGEMENT this is a PSA This is no fault to the people working that day. I have no idea what happened in the kitchen, but I waited for 30 minutes :,) for a chicken sandwich and fries. And by the time I got my food it was luke warm at best. Management please help the staff out. Bring more people in on the busy days. Because they were backed up. Or have a better system for prioritizing dine-in and mobile orders. You could clearly see mobile orders being made on the screen but no system for dine-in, not even an intercom so you can't hear your number if you're all the way in the back. I really wanted to like it. But it's so hard to enjoy luke warm fries and a semi cold sandwich. It was like I could've Doordashed the food and had the same exact experience at home. The potential was there tho, cwispy crinkle cut fries , solid chicken with a beautiful balance of slaw and pickles. But it was just so mediocre and room temp and not worth a 30 minute wait. And it looks like other reviews have also noted cold food which is a bummer. SHOUT OUT TO EVELYN tho. She was really kind when we ordered because it was our first time to try the place. I could see she was really trying her best to keep up with all the orders and still have a positive attitude. EVELYN IF YOU SEE THIS KNOW YOU THE BEST (and I hope your management sees this too). Ps. Please fix the bass on your sound system. You have Bose speaker so I know the music can sound good . Right now there's zero bass and it feels like I'm walking inside a KMart. And when you're hungry and waiting for 30 minutes for food, the last place I want to be is in a Kmart. **[If you got to the end of this review....]** My recommendation is GIVE IT A SHOT just don't go on a busy time (dinner) or day (Friday). Or come prepared to wait. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk ( ) read more

I was excited to check this place out. It's within a week of their opening and on Friday night and I got a craving for some chicken fingers. Came at about 8:30 or so in evening and happy to see people inside but not too crazy. There was only one person in front of me (order at counter.). The staff were super helpful and polite...even offering to go over the menu with me. But their menu is super simple so no help needed today. There were two in my party. We each got a combo, mine was a slider and a tender. It included a side of pickle slices and fries. When ordering they asked the spicy level which I picked medium (the gal said medium is equivalent to jalapeño heat.) my combo was $13.99 so when I was asked if I wanted a drink I was taken a little off guard as $13.99 from a counter joint (in my opinion) include a drink. No biggie...I added one. Order came out about 10 minutes later which is reasonable and the food was piping hot. Finding a seat was no problem. Being a Friday night, there were a lot of teenagers around but they were fine, minding their business with friends. Made me feel a bit old but I digress. The chicken didn't seem as spicy as I thought it might, but I'd prefer under than over spiced. Flavor was good but in all honesty I couldn't distinguish any thing unique to this chicken joint. Would I try it again? Perhaps if the particular craving kicked in. Recommend? Definitely. Just because it's not my favorite doesn't mean it's not good, and hey...maybe it will be your new favorite spot. Go check it out! Tl;dr - it's pretty good, just not crazy special. Go try try it. read more

Ordered Daves hot chicken on door dash. My lunch arrived in a sealed bag. When I opened it the chicken tenders were missing. I called the restaurant they said I could come pick them up or come another day and I could get the missing tenders. I can't leave work so picking them up was not a option. I will never order from there again horrible customer service. They should have sent me the tenders. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places to go prior to Dave's taking over space. They closed the front door and make all people go in the side entrance which must entertain the staff watching many people trying to come in through from doors but they are locked. There is a sign. But most people ignore signs. I've never eaten here before and was told by my daughter it was amazing. So.... We had to try it. I am not a spicey person so I went mild and honestly it was really good. They are served very hot (temperature) where it'll take the roof of your mouth off like it did mine. But hey that's my dumb fault eating it still super hot. Food prices are average, drinks cost are more than other places. The decor is oddly decorated with graffiti as its decor with diamond steel plates. It's clean in there. The yelling out of numbers Is annoying as it remjnds me of that in out place. Overall I give it a 4/5 as I felt they could use a little friendlier entrances, screaming of numbers The food was amazing though. I will Be back. read more

Ate here the other day, line out the door, ordered slider meal and bites... Dave's Port Hueneme is a favorite of mine! But not this Dave's. Line out the door and my fries are COLD? Chicken bites were like someone cut them in half to pass them off as a whole bite? Dudes next to me sent their food back and had to wait forever. Hopefully management of this newer store gets their act together, cause right now they make Dave look bad. read more

I decided to eat at Dave's today for the first time. I'm astounded at extremely ordinary taste profile. it has a bitter after taste which I was unable to understand. it's definitely the seasoning and not the bun. fries were slightly more plat-able but obviously came from a frozen bag of crinkle cut fries you buy at Walmart. I would give it a two but the extremely price (drink not even included in combo) it's just not worth 17$. well I would have been ok trying it once but will never go again. another overhyped chain influenced by social media. read more

I try all the hot chicken places and this one's an easy favorite. I've been 3 times now and the food has been consistently flavored and good. I go for hot, and they have more complex flavor than most hot chicken. Enough to make my lips tingle but not take my breath away. Savory, spicy, a touch sweet, and never too dry. It's so good. Fries are seasoned and crunchy. They're soda is excellent, like they have their syrup ratio set higher so it's extra sweet. IYKYK. And I have been nothing but wow by the customer service they're always extremely nice and friendly and working hard. Restaurant is Clean and Super cool vibes. Try it and get addicted like me. read more

Online orders are ruining the experience for walk in customers. I've been waiting here for over an hour now and my order is not even ready yet. The damn chicken sandwich isn't any better than something you would get at KFC or Popeyes. Their wannabe Cane's sauce tastes like miracle whip with paprika. This is my second time going to Dave's Hot Chicken, after the first time when I said, I would never return. Because of my review, and I guess the survey I filled out, they sent me a code to be able to visit Dave's Hot Chicken again. I really hesitated, but today I went. Went to the one in Oxnard, CA, located by the TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack. First, the gal at the front who was at the register was not at the register anymore when I approached. She was standing by the back and yelled out to me something I couldn't understand, three different times that she was yelling across the area. She finally approached me and what she was asking me was if I was paying with cash or a card, which I don't really understand why that matters. I told her it was a gift card or keep coupon code that I had gotten from doing a survey. And then she started taking my order. She seemed very rushed and like I was putting her out. It was very uncomfortable from the beginning to the end, especially that there were like eight people all sitting and standing right behind me waiting for their food, which is an extremely uncomfortable position to be in. In my opinion, nobody should be standing right behind you waiting for their food and there should be an area for that. It's completely bizarre! Very bad design in the restaurant. Next, she didn't know how to do the code and had to go get somebody else who also didn't know how to do it until she pushed a bunch of buttons and figured it out. It took 19 minutes for me to get my order. Every single available table and bar area was dirty with crumbs left behind, drink stains and liquid, and sticky stuff. I had to clean a space just so that I could eat in the restaurant. Fries were cold and stale. I returned them to get new ones. Ordered the number three with the slider and the chicken tender. Chicken tender is also cold, so overcooked on the outside that it was like chewing cardboard, and absolutely the worst chicken tender I've ever had in my life. The tender comes in a white piece of bread. I don't understand what a piece of white bread that looks like they just pulled it right out of the loaf of bread package, is doing as a part of this meal! It's like, you're already eating bread with the slider. Why do you need more bread? Seems like a waste of money. What do people do with that piece of bread anyway? I also said that I was eating in the restaurant. Everyone else had red plastic baskets and metal trays that were open with their food exposed. Mine was given to me in black plastic container that was closed, as if were actually a to-go container. Maybe they forgot, didn't pay attention, didn't read the receipts? Maybe that's why it sat back there and got cold and disgusting for so long? The last thing I will say about their food, and this is just a training issue, but when somebody orders no spice for the chicken, finger and slider, that should be a key indicator that they should be warning the customer that the fries are extremely spicy. Had I known that, I would not have ordered them. Neither one of my parents could ever eat the fries because of how spicy they are, and when you don't know the restaurant, and you don't know that about their fries, it's not only an unpleasant surprise for your stomach, but it's a waste of money. Last note: You have to ask for the code to the restroom, which is super annoying when they're are so many people sitting up there waiting for their food. It's like you feel exposed of anything of your privacy. So I didn't ask and left with dirty hands. I always give places to chances and was only going to give this place one because it was so horrible the first time. Now they have been given two chances at two different places and I am done. I really do not know how they stay in business and keep popping up new locations. It baffles my mind because what it means to me is that people have gotten very used to spending $16 for a really crappy meal with horrible chicken fingers and fries that taste like they came out of the package frozen and then were fried. Totally unbelievable to me! read more
