Worse customer service ever! We understand there are longer wait times due to Covid, so we waited about one hour to be seated. The restaurant only had 2 waiters and no manager on duty. When we finally got a table, nobody gave us a menu or offered us anything to drink. We were patiently waiting and when the waiter approached us we were told to be patient or that we could also leave. Went for lunch 10/07/2018. Bus Boy was extremely rude before we ever spoke to the person who seated us. No menus or drink orders taken for more than 15 min. after being seated (not busy at 11am). Asked for menus ans waitress was rude says she would get them when she had a chance (although she had walked past numerous times empty handed). My wife and I made the beautiful and breathtaking journey up to Cloudcroft today, so glad we did. Not so glad we ate at Daves, my wife's chicken sandwich special was very good with the home-made chips, so I guess I was the disappointed party. I ordered the potato with bacon soup/stew, and cheese sandwich. The soup was not hot, and the diced potatoes were raw, or half cooked, I mentioned it to a waitress, she said she would tell them. I guess she saw me sitting there not eating so she came back and asked if I wanted fries, I guess that was the only option, so I said yes. The fries came glistening with grease and half done. Did not eat them. No more visits from the waitress to see how we were doing, not even the original waitress that took the order. I gave up, paid the bill and we left. Dave's needs a cook. read more

Excellent. That noted, it is important to explain my point of reference. I rate this as a lunch spot and a breakfast spot. It is not an upscale restaurant; it is not a diner. Not that either are bad. It is a great place to eat breakfast and lunch. We've been in Cloudcroft nearly a week and have come back to this place several times. Yes, as another reviewer noted, I could make the stuff I had at home. However, I happen to like that which I make at home, and better yet, I like it when someone else makes it for me ...and serves it with a smile. Plus, home is a long way from here. There are not many options at Cloudcroft so we decided to give this place a try. It was a pleasant surprise. The decoration was nice and the staff very friendly. A shame that they only serve breakfast until 11, the breakfast menu looked great. I ended up having a simple burger with fries and it was a pleasant surprise, the burger was very decent although the fries were a bit soggy. The black coffee was also good. Overall a cool place for a quick bite. read more

Thought I was going to Higher Grounds Coffee (must be out of business). Found what looked like a coffee shop associated with Dave's on the left of the hallway. Decided to give it a try anyway. Dropped in twice in the same morning. Girl was counting money and looked annoyed that I even said hello the first time. Dropped back by 20 minutes later and a man who may have worked there said hello, but that's about it. The espresso machine looks like a home model and was in pieces. I gave up and went to the convenience store for coffee. Y'all need to take down the Higher Grounds Coffee sign out front. It's not there anymore. read more

We come to Cloudcroft every year in August and always enjoy Dave's Cafe. I'm vegetarian and there are several good veggie choices on the meno. My wife likes the Charlie salad. Dave's is also the only place in town to get decaf espresso (when they don't run out). read more

Dave's Cafe has one of the BEST burgers I've ever eaten! A visit to Dave's is always on my list when I visit Cloudcroft a couple of times a year. Unfortunately, I can't review any of their other menu items because I can't go to Dave's without getting a burger. My very favorite is the World Famous Willy Burger with grilled onions and jalapenos, green chilies, mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. Simply to die for!! They also have zuchinni fries, which were yummy, as well as sweet potato fries. I've never had bad service or rude wait staff, as other posters claimed. And if you have room for a sweet treat after that monster burger, Dave's also has Blue Bell ice cream. Dave's is small and during busy times you may have to wait for a table so that's why I only gave them 4 out of 5 stars, but I highly recommend Dave's when you visit Cloudcroft. read more
