If you are in Cloudcroft a stop at BIL BBQ should be a requirement. The staff here are so kind and happy to answer questions you have. I got a chopped brisket sandwich and a pint of chili. No wait and was ready in about a minute Chopped brisket sandwich ($12); had a good half pound+ of melt in your mouth brisket on a soft bun that was still able to maintain its structure when the tangy sweet bbq sauce poured over it Chili is legit a hearty all meat chili bursting with flavor, mostly meaty with a slight tomato base flavor. A half pint ($5) is perfect for a meal for one or share between two/three people if you each have a sandwich or plate. Very tasty and probably top 3 I've ever had. What an amazing BBQ place in Cloudcroft! The other bigger one is supposed to be good too. But wasn't open. A local had advised to skip the line and go to Brother in laws anyway! Mad Jack's BBQ was closed so we went to BIL BBQ. Our first time there. Menu and ordering are at a counter. Once you decide what you want, ordering is easy. My wife and I split a chopped brisket sammich. I asked the guy if he would cut it in half for us; he gladly did. The Q was delicious. The cup of provided sauce was excellent. We had an order of fries; they were hot and very good. Also had a half-pint of pinto beans....very good. They also serve sliced brisket and pulled pork. Onions, jalapenos, and pickles are available on a counter for self-serve. I loaded up on the sliced onions and got a few jalapenos. Drinks are self-serve, so I suppose you can have all the soft drinks you want. We had ice water. It's a relatively small place, but we had no problem getting a table for four. Rolls of paper towels are on the table...a good thing. All four of us enjoyed our meal, then headed down the mountain, back to Ruidoso. I highly recommend. read more

We stopped in for lunch today after doing some shopping in town! Walked in and immediately noticed you go to the counter to order. It's a small place with probably 15 tables. We took up two booths with our party of 5. The menu was written on a board above the counter. There are a ton of options including meat plates, turkey legs, and loaded baked potatoes!! Wish I'd have read over it more closely because I missed the fried okra!! Next time!!! My mother in law chose the loaded baked potato with brisket. She said it was FANTASTIC!!! My father in law chose the turkey leg and it was HUGE!!! He said it was the best he's ever had and the man enjoys his turkey legs!!! My husband got a meat tray with brisket, jalapeño sausage, beans, and potato salad! Again, a ton of food that he couldn't finish and he's a 6'6 man who doesn't miss a meal!!! I snagged a bite of his beans and they had a ton of flavor!! My daughter got the mini corn dogs with French fries. The waiter apologized and said it would take about 7 minutes to cook, which was fine! We were in no hurry! She played in the booth while she waited! It came out hot and delicious!!! A mom always has to make sure it's not too hot right!!? I chose the loaded baked potato as well but with turkey!!! It was soooooo good!!!! Tons of Smokey flavor, topped with cheese. I love vinegar based cole slaw myself, so I asked him if that's how it's done there, he says no it's light mayo and horseradish. As someone who has seen several good family restaurants change ownership only for the quality to decline steeply, it's refreshing to see the opposite apparently happening here. Don't let the poor reviews from years ago keep you from this hidden gem, during a recent visit we had excellent food and some of the best service I've had at any restaurant in years. Several meat options sold out before we arrived, so we shared a brisket plate. The brisket was flavorful and moist, and my wife really enjoyed the potato salad. The hostess and the owner each stopped by our table to chat and were beyond friendly, sharing stories and asking about us and our dining experience. We also shared an order of the homemade banana pudding, which was incredible. Let me say it pains me to write a bad review of a family run joint...but I have to be honest. Second of all, I know BBQ. I'm from Ft. Worth and can eat good bbq on demand and I also spent lots of time eating good bbq with my grandfather at joints all over the state. So with that said, definitely one of the worst bbq places I've been to. Brisket is the king when it comes to TX BBQ and this brisket was dry and did not have a smoke ring - which means it wasn't smoked. On top of that, it was flavorless. Second, the sausage seemed like they were just Eckridge Smoked sausages that were cooked in a cast iron pan for some color. There was no snap to the sausage. And the ribs were a bit tough. Ribs should not be fall off the bone, but they shouldn't be tough. I will say the turkey was good. My biggest issue with this place is that I don't know if they smoke their meat. I know that the other place in town has their smokers going all the time, but never see smokers going here. Which leads me to think their food is done in the oven. Anyway, if you want some truly excellent bbq the other joint in town is truly top notch. read more

Two words. Tur-key. Get the turkey! the most absolute tender, juicy thing of smoked turkey you'll ever have! I was blown away at how amazing the quality was, especially for the amount of flavor that was packed into it! Turkey breast tends to go towards the dryer side of quality, so whatever spell they casted over that pit really made the world of a difference! Ugh I can't get over it! Their smoked sausages were also beyond magical! Soooo so fresh and dang tasty! It was unlike any flavor profile I have honestly ever tasted. It left you feeling super light and barely detected that much grease from it, which is a rare balance to keep it juicy at the same time! I kind of wish I got cuts of brisket rather than their cubed up pieces for their baked potato so that I could of had the full experience. But regardless, my baked potato with the works and BBQed brisket was a party in my mouth! So much flavor bombs! Although the potato itself was a decent size that I should have been able to finish, it was packed so well with brisket and throw in the cheese and sour cream, I hit a wall before fully finishing the potato itself. Rest assured, absolutely no meat was wasted during this meal! Super friendly and professional customer service! Cozy lil dining area with their small fire pit going to warm up the place just right. Friendly service, great food. We went twice in a three day visit to Cloudcroft. We had the brisket on one trip and the ribs on the other, both tender and flavorful! Generous portions which we split (our usual MO) and it was plenty for us. The baked beans were also a highlight, slightly spicy, and we both enjoyed them (even though my husband doesn't usually like beans, he loved them). We also really liked the Cole Slaw. I grew up in a Texas town with five barbecue "joints" and I regularly eat in Lockhart (Texas) at Chisolm Trail barbecue, Blacks barbecue and the old Kreuz barbecue and Muellers in Taylor.
