David is wonderful. I'm not the type to shop at a high end clothier much -or at all- but I had a wedding to attend and really had little that was up to the occasion. David helped find clothes for the wedding and to generally improve my wardrobe all around. I love everything I bought and have even received unsolicited compliments. The Wizard of Oz. I went to Davelle for a tailor-made dress to create. The boss, David, a self-infatuated clown who dislikes women was not up to the task. I need a streamstress/creator and he is not, but he would play me: he came with a man's electric blue suit...! So lazy. Instead of being humble and honest with the wife of a client who spends many thousands of dollars in his shop, he became insolent and rude vis-à-vis me. He put down my country of origin and criticized me personally. " you are dominant " he said which in his orld is "difficult to manipulate.". My appointment with the Wizard of Oz was at 3 pm. The pseudo diva appeared at 3:35 pm without apologies and dismissed my tastes and needs. A bad actor and a narcissistic joke. read more

Although a fine brand of clothing, not a great customer experience. I had purchased items in the past with mixed results, but really like some casual jeans I purchased from them and planned on going back during my holiday time off for some new jeans. Not knowing how their operations were affected during the pandemic, I looked up their information on-line and called to verify I could visit that day to make my purchase. I noticed when I went on-line, the website advertised their current sale "$100 off purchases of $300 or more...", so I thought it would be a good deal and fits my need for a few new pairs of pants. When I arrived, the salesperson helped me find two pair of pants and measured for tailoring. While looking around I found a really great jacket ($500, but really a great style) that I added to the purchase. All the items were priced high, but the quality and style were quite good. When the salesperson rang me up, I mistakenly didn't verify the numbers, paid, and headed home with the jacket and left the pants for alterations. When at home the following day I looked at the receipt and noticed that I had been overcharged by $100 on a pair of pants, and didn't receive the $100 discount for a total of being overcharged $200. I figured "mistakes are made, should be an easy fix, and I should have caught it realtime, my bad not theirs." I called to have the corrections made to my transaction. When I spoke with the salesperson, I pointed out the issue with being overcharged for the pants, and he quickly verified the mistake.. apologized for the error, and told me he would correct it immediately. Then I brought up that the $100 discount wasn't applied, and this is when the experience went from OK to not acceptable. (Note: the salesperson began being coached or instructed in the background on the entire discussion here on in. The salesperson would say "my boss is saying" or "my boss said" with each communication that I felt was negative.) The salesperson initially told me that the advertised sale had ended, so he couldn't apply it to my purchase on the day I made it. Realizing that I could have overlooked that detail, I pulled up the website while on the phone with him. Turns out, there was no disclaimer or restriction that informed a shopper that the sale had ended. After declining a few times to give me the advertised discount, the salesperson finally offered me store credit vs. the discount. I was also told that the advertising department made this mistake, not him, but they would still offer me store credit. (So... my fault?) I declined the store credit and asked for the discount as advertised on their website. After I declined to take store credit a few times and requested the store honor their advertisement, the salesperson finally agreed. Note, this entire discussion was cordial, polite, and I like the salesperson. My previous experience with him was one of the reasons I returned to the store. The Salesperson adjusted my purchase and properly refunded me the ~$200 overcharge. I was satisfied, thanked him for his help and we disconnected. A minute later the salesperson called me back and let me know because the two pair of pants that I purchased were now considered "sale" items, I had to pay $24 per pair for the alterations (previously included in the price) increasing my cost by $48. I would be charged when I picked up the pants in a few weeks. Note: The jacket alone qualified for the advertised discount. The jeans were above and beyond. I decided at this point that I wasn't comfortable doing business with Davelle, and needed to immediately return all the items I purchased that day. I drove out to Reston with the jacket an hour later and asked for a full return. Happily, they did honor the return policy and I returned the entire ~$1,000 transaction without any additional hassle. This return experience is the reason I give the review two stars versus one. At the end of the day, I lost multiple hours of time and a few round trip fees on the toll road, but was able to recuperate all my money from Davelle. The bottom line... High quality, high prices, not-hassle free. read more

One day I bought some Calvin Klein shoes at Davelle's and noticed they kept falling apart. I was not only disappointed in the poor quality but also stunned Davelle Clothiers sold them. I can't remember the whole story but I do recall it being a bad experience. Fast forward many years later and I find myself looking for a place to make me a suit for my wedding. Which was in two days!!! I met a gentleman named Tim that went above an beyond to help me not only find something that fits the color scheme but also have it ready on my wedding day. I've been to Davelle a few times now. At first I thought they were just about high end custom suits and shirts but they have the gambit of fashion items for men. They have jeans and great sport coats. Terrific shoe selection as well as watches, cuff links and men's bracelets. I was hesitant originally after reading some of the reviews. I was there on a weekend and I noticed that most customers were actually dressed extremely casually and they were all treated and greeted. The staff seemed knowledgeable and the owner David seemed to know everyone by name. He has quite the personality. I bought a bracelet but plan on picking up some shoes soon. read more

Eek! Methinks not! Purchased a deal from BloomSpot ($50 for $600 towards a custom bespoke suit). You know, it wasn't the outlandish pricing that pierced my soul; it was actually the experience. I arrive in 10 year old sweats & a rather old t-shirt. Shouldn't matter, right? I was clean, just running errands :-) Nonetheless, assumptions made an ass out of the owner. There was no rapport built, etc. Right into "what do you do for a living"....I saw where this was going quickly so I made fun of the ordeal. Never told David I was a GM for a fleet of dealerships....that wasn't necessary....boy did he lack a sense of humor. "....would you like to see our $32,000 suits." If I'm paying for a 2k suit, I demand an experience. A good one! I prefer, as the consumer, not to be treated like the merchant is doing me a favor. Should be quite the opposite, in fact. I bought my wife the same deal. After my experience, she opted not to keep her appointment. In summary, I will continue to patronize Hyatt & Co in Maple Lawn. Please, please consider this before shopping anywhere other than Davelle. Most of us probably live in beautiful homes that are seen by only a few people. We probably drive beautiful, fast cars that many people see but don't know it's us that are driving the beautiful, fast car. I can't say enough great things about my visit to Davelle today- my husband and I went in order to get him outfitted in something very nice for my company's upcoming Christmas party (which is, on the whole, a rather swank and lavish affair). We worked directly with the owner, Dave, who is an amazingly sweet and attentive gentleman who did not make us feel at all inferior for having never set foot in a nice men's store before. We were helped mainly by Dave, but were also attended to by the other two attendants in the store, and they were all great! We walked out with one amazing outfit for my husband (shirt, belt, pants, shoes). Well, we didn't exactly walk out with the whole outfit, as the pants and shirt needed to be altered, and the shoes needed to be ordered, but the absolute best part is that the party is in a week and they're going to have everything altered and ready well before the party! I feel like most stores would want more than a week worth of lead time to get everything together but Davelle didn't even bat an eye. While we were there Dave was greeting everyone who came in by name, and helping them all find exactly what they needed. The level of service is superb, just absolutely top notch. The selection is carefully cultured to include plenty of choices in a wide range of colors and styles, so there's sure to be something for everyone. No, there's not a *giant* selection, but that's because this store doesn't throw everything against the wall and hope something sticks. If you're looking for nice clothing that you can have for a long time, that are well made and custom tailored for a great fit (which was important in my husband's case, as he is a powerlifter and is extremely well-muscled), you cannot go wrong with Davelle! read more

This is a really wonderful men's store. I have been coming to David for years and he's an ace. A good percentage of the garments on sale are /his/ label with the rest being very high quality brands like Canali, Zegna and Abboud. There's no question that Davelle's gear is pricey, but not more than any high-end clothing of exceptional quality. They deserve a Negative 5 Star rating, for how horrible the owner treated me. I went in with a suit that, I brought elsewhere - I wanted the shoulders cleaned and have a vest made for this suit. The owner and the staff, would not stop, on how bad the suit was and that they can't fix it and that they will have to make a new suit of it - They instead kept pushing me to buy a new suit from them. I love this place, but you have to understand what Davelle is to appreciate it. Dave (the owner) is a master at his craft. His custom clothing is of the highest quality. His eye for combinations - what works together, what works for you - is outstanding. I have a closetful of his custom products, and am considered the best dressed person at my office. You will look amazing. Five stars, no question. But Davelle is not Brooks Brothers or Men's Warehouse. The store caters to those that will make an appointment and spend thousands in custom products, and sales pressure is the norm. It can be overwhelming for the uninitiated or the casual shopper. I used to work at Davelle a few years ago and I was shocked with some of the unethical and immoral things that I witnessed there. The owner (David) who is a very good salesman did some terrible things. I will give you a few examples... He would order dress shirts that were made in china and he would make us seat there and take the made in china labels off so that he could sell the shirts to his customers as Italian made at $150 per shirt. These shirts might have cost him around $15 each... We did the same things with neck ties...he would order $5 dollar neck ties and after made in china labels were gone he would sell them anywhere from $60 to $150 each. When I used to work there his jacket size was a perfect 42 long...he didnt need any kind of alterations for his jackets, so he would take stuff off store rack have his tailor adjust the pants length and he would wear it. The next day, his tailor would undo the adjustments iron the whole thing and put it back up for sale. He did the same thing with sports coats, t-shirts and anything that he could without damaging the items... Custom made jackets, pants or shirts are not custom at all...he shows you some samples and pictures and later on he would order your shirt, jacket or what have you from a catalog. When items came to store we would change the plastic wrappings to make it look like it was custom or hand made. To me that was very dishonest and unprofessional. He sold the items as brand new for $600 to $1200 each...his customers all thought they were buying new items, but unfortunately it was not true in some of the cases. While working there he did not even provide a proper break room for his employees. our frig to store our lunches was in the bathroom..the same that he would go and use sometimes... He never did anything to show his appreciation towards his staff...he could have simply bought some coffee and donuts once in a while, but nooooo...he was too cheap. Hell he would keep a panera bread coffee cup and he would go across the street and fill it up every morning since they had free refills...LOL He was pretty rude towards his wife and kids and he would easily disrespect them in front of his staff. When customers walked into the store he would turn into the nicest and the most caring person in the world...but we all knew he is a show and he is only doing it for their money. I personally never liked it, to me it was ass kissing for their money... So yeah watch out if your shopping from him....he is very different person before you walk in and after you leave, but he is an excellent salesman and he can even sell you your own shoes without you noticing it. read more

Imagine a used car dealership with haberdashery. Congrats, you're at Davelle! I've never met a bigger band of high pressure yet unknowledgeable sales folks. On, at least, 3 occasions in my 2 visits here I was essentially asked to purchase something to establish a rapport. By something, I mean anything; not just items that I was interested in. The first time I took as a joke. The other two times, I recognized a pattern. There's such a thing as closing or asking for a sale; this was quite another. Then there was the salesperson who kept pointing things out to me and soliciting an opinion to try and identify a pattern to pressure me some more; transparent and annoying. When I say unknowledgeable, I'm speaking about men's clothing in general and/or competing high-end competition. I'd be more specific, but I didn't take to Yelp to give proprietors tips on how to run their business. Oh and then there was the incessant begging to add my personal information to their marketing list; oy. Safe to say, if you're in the market to spend money on high-end menswear, look elsewhere. PS - The owner regularly (twice in one visit in my case) scapegoated and humiliated his, less than seasoned, employees in front of customers. Charming. read more

The owner has high quality products with the high-maintanence attitude to go with it. While I was there he made fun of and humiliated his sales assistant who couldn't have been more than 19 years old with very little work experience. He kept telling her that there was only a few more months until she went back to school, insinuating he'd be incredibly relieved when that happened. There was a basic lack of humanity and respect apparent in this organization and it's too bad this bully didn't pick on someone his own size - I would have been happy to put him in his place. But I'm just a lowly female and an organizational psychologist - what do I know! In terms of their products, you can find things here that aren't the standard fare you'd find in most men's department stores, however, some of the other reviews about immoral practices and switching lables on clothes make me wonder if I got what I paid for. I specifically looked up the reviews on this place to see if I was the only one who got a bad feeling but you can only leave so many bodies in the basement before things really start to stink. On a positive note, I asked Hussein a bazillion questions and he was very helpful with picking things out for me; he's also got good taste - which helps when shopping for men's clothes isn't your bag! read more

I have used their alternation services in the past with outside clothing and was very satisfied with the service. The gentleman I spoke with today was rude, short, and very degrading to me while I simply tried to make an appointment to get my clothes fitted (and give them money!!). He ultimately told me that he was too busy to assist me and that he didn't do outside alterations, when clearly I had done so with them in the past! My fiance had a custom suit made here this spring and it turned out great. Dave Jr. helped us with the whole process which is daunting considering the price tag. We had a long initial fitting (1.5 hours) and then two more short sessions (20 minutes) once the had suit arrived so we could get the fit just right. I just picked up my second custom suit from Davelle (I bought the first one 6 months ago). I was so impressed with the first one that I went back, and was so impressed with the second one that I decided to tell the world. I was introduced to David Eisele -- the owner of Davelle -- by Pete Converse, the CEO of Virginia Commerce Bank. As a strategic coach who works with CEOs, it's important for me to look perfect. Up until I met Dave, I would buy my suits, ties, shirts, and shoes from Nordstrom in Annapolis. Great store, but when Pete referred me to David, I decided to give him a try. Davelle's slogan is "feel the difference," and that's the best way to capture the essence that is David Eisele's personal handling of his clients. We first talked about my wardrobe and then talked about what message I wanted to convey with my suits. Once we settled on that, David quickly was able to show me a number of fabrics that worked very well to rebuild my wardrobe, starting from the highest impact suits (blue and gray pinstripes) to get me back where I needed to be. When the suit was ready, I came in for a fitting. We got things settled and then I gave the suit back for the free alterations. David then found 4 ties for me that complemented my personality and my suit very well, as well as a couple of great shirts. When I came back in a few weeks to pick up my final product, it was ready to go. I went through the same process with my second suit -- only one alteration was required. David again found 4 ties that worked well with me and a number of shirts. Since then, I've received more compliments than ever before on my suits and ties. I dress very conservatively, but even as a person who tries not to stand out when I dress (I'm 6'5", 250 pounds, so I need the suit to not be as loud as me), it's astounding for me to hear the compliments I get. So, as a businessman who interacts with CEOs of companies, I cannot give any higher recommendation. David Eisele at Davelle is THE GUY to go to if you want to dress like a serious businessman. Nordstrom is nice, but they can't possibly compete with the personal attention and know-how of David. David is a true professional, and if you are a professional man, you shouldn't go anywhere else. All I experienced was poor service and impatience sales rep.. to the point I thought I would Never get the suit I want and I was about to give up until I met Dave.. He changed everything!! Dave and I talked almost two hours the first day I walked in. He explained to me everything about the suit I need to know patiently and professionally. I have purchased four (4) suits, two (2) CUSTOM jackets, one (1) CUSTOM slacks, one (1) CUSTOM tie, two (2) jeans and four (4) CUSTOM shirts. Of these items, each and every one required multiple alterations. I understand this if I order a suit off the rack, but when I order a custom garment and it needs MULTIPLE adjustments, something's just not right. The custom shirts were altered on several occasions. The body was taken in, the sleeves shortened, then the sleeves had to be remade as they were WAY too short. I think the whole ordeal for the shirts was over a six month process. The suits also required multiple alterations and the custom slacks had a pull in the fabric the day they were delivered. This required their return to the manufacturer for a new leg to be sewn. The jeans also required multiple alterations and I was told "how great they looked" every time I tried them on. Unfortunately, I didn't feel "great" in them when the waistband was rolling and they stretched so far out of shape I could pull them down without unbuttoning them. He was kind enough to let us return one pair of jeans and when we did, his clerk told us that they were having sizing issues with them. The point I'm trying to make is, if you're want something that fits properly, this probably isn't the place to go. My breaking point came when my $175 custom tie arrived too long. I returned it (via FedEx) to the store to be altered. I just received a call (several weeks later) that the tie has been shortened and I can come in to pick it up any time. Unfortunately, we no longer live in his area...but he offered to send it via FedEx if I had a number to give him so he would not incur the expense. Honestly, the tie was $175! Dave Sr is a great salesman, has a wonderful personality, but unfortunately the quality of his custom work is lacking. Purchasing from Davelle requires a MAJOR investment not only financially, but in time as so many trips are required before a product is deemed wearable. read more
