For a certain type of person, one who likes to cook and who has a dull child's understanding of…read morepersonal discipline and responsibility, a store like Chef City is the kitchen supply equivalent of a cocaine emporium, where the offerings are enticing, expensive, addictive, and ultimately, unable to permanently satisfy one's urge. It's me. I'm that person. And that's why I've shopped at Chef City for years. Chef City has been there for me when I needed a good knife; a deep-fryer; a set of mixing bowls; and an 80-quart stock pot with a basket, for boiling crawfish. But "need" has played a very small part in my relationship with the place. Just as no one needs cocaine, I don't need most of the very cool stuff that Chef City sells. Nonetheless, I'd buy a lot of it, just to have it, and the fact that I don't is less a result of rational thought than of my fear of damaging of my marriage. The store doesn't always have what I want, but the staff is always accommodating, and, adorably, when I show up with a difficult-to-meet requirement, I get the sense that they really hope they can help. "Adorable." Yep, that's what I said. And I promise you that no one has ever referred to anyone at Amazon - from Bezos to the delivery driver - that way.

It was also 50% off on a lot of things for Father's Day. We got a cool coca cola pitcher for $10. They also have a table in the middle to take a break and paint rocks. You can take it home or add to their garden outside. Outside, they also had a shelf for free items. And lastly, complimentary chocolate chip cookies they seemed to have just baked!

It's a great way to keep old kitchen items out of the landfill and give them a new life. Plus, the proceeds go to kitchens for good. The amount of items is a bit overwhelming. I would definitely come back for the hunt if I needed something in particular and had time to sort through the vast amount of items.
