I contracted with Rich at Smitty Built-ins to build my home office. He is amazing! Start to finish, I couldn't be more pleased. He took care with the design phase helping me to stay within budget but get everything that I needed. He was on schedule (we had to wait until he was available to start the job, but it was worth waiting for - he was up front and told me exactly how long his backlog was and when he would be able to start my job). He told us when the job would start and how long it would take and was right on time. His quality of work is incredible! It is hard to find a true craftsman these days, and Rich is definitely a craftsman. He really cares and the quality of his work shows! He pays attention to the small details. He and his installation team were clean, polite, and on time. I highly recommend Smitty Built-In's!

Smitty is such a rare gem. He is honest and friendly and punctual and a real perfectionist. He takes such pride in his work, and it is easy to see why. We had an office nook that needed a desk and some cabinets. Really small job, and we figured going with a modular cabinet company would be the economical choice. The mock-up they showed us just looked cheap though, so we decided to get a bid from a real builder who uses real wood instead of mdf. Enter Smitty. He drew up what I wanted, and it was exactly what I wanted because he had no limitations on what he could build, unlike closet/cabinet companies. and the cost? almost exactly the same as the cheapo particle board company was going to charge us. When he came to install (right on time), it was done very slowly and deliberately. This is not a rush job. He makes sure that it looks like this has been part of the house since time immemorial. No gaps, no creaky bits, no rickety drawers or doors. Everything is perfect. Our tiny desk nook is now the fanciest part of our whole house. I want to hold a dinner party in there. I wish I had a fancier camera so you could really see how beautiful it is, but hopefully you'll get the idea. Everyone who has seen it has gushed over it. Highly recommend.

Not sure why Yelp didn't show my review from 2012- so I've added below and I've uploaded a photo of the awesome home office Smitty's built for us. We just moved and of course I had to call Smitty again- he just finished our large 14' x 9' bookcase for us. Again, his workmanship and attention to detail is excellent! My wall isn't perfectly straight so there was a small gap at the end - I thought caulk is fine but no, that just isn't acceptable for Smitty- he spent extra time and cut 2 small pieces of wood to fill in the gap and it's perfect! He really takes pride in his work and makes sure we are happy with the results. Again, we are so thankful we found him and would recommend him! Review from 2012: Smitty Built-Ins just finished installation of our home office, complete with 2 corner desks, lighted bookcase, and many drawers. Rich and his guys did an incredible job! We are so happy with the results that I am doing my first online review ever! We were impressed with Rich from our first meeting. He's a true craftsman who takes pride in his work, not just a salesman like most others I've met. He listened to what we envisioned and offered some additional ideas to make the room even better. His work is high quality but not high priced. He kept us posted throughout the project and was on schedule as promised. We are so glad we found Smitty and highly recommend him!

we love to see the natural design of the wood

So we wanted to get the best use out of our media space in our family room since our tv would have never fit in that insert and decided to finally go ahead and see about getting a bar and cabinet put in, we wanted something custom and nothing made out off cheap MDF or plywood, we wanted real wood and we wanted the natural design and lines real wood displays so we wanted it stained and not painted. We shopped around and decided to contact Smitty's, we emailed and texted back and forth with pictures and ideas of what we were looking for and to get some rough estimates, we new it wouldn't be cheap but we wanted something that was going to last and wanted quality material, we finally set up an in home visit and Rich was able to draw out what we envisioned, he is so passionate about his work and it shows, his attention to detail and putting what's on paper to reality is amazing, he kept us informed on the process and had us come down to his shop for the final approval and to make any changes to the design, needless to say the final product was everything we could have imagined, we love looking at our bar and making use of it, Thanks Rich for your hard work and expertise, we will definitely be thinking of you for any of our other custom built designs.

Smitty is a true craftsman! We needed a built in to fill an oddly sized entertainment center niche right next to our fireplace. Not only did Smitty draw up a beautiful cabinet to fit in the niche, he also designed an attached mantle, above and beyond what we were expecting! Smitty was professional, punctual, and communicated regularly to keep us up to date on the progress. This previously boring wall has become our favorite part of the house and we are actively looking for more projects to call Smitty about!

This is my beautiful built-in by Smitty Built-ins! Could not be happier!

They just finished my media built-in and it is beyond fabulous! These guys are truly artist! I wanted something a little different from the normal, and I got it! Thanks you!!!

It turned out to be the best recommendation I have ever received. Tony spent a good amount of time trying to understand our requirements, and was able to provide us exactly what we were looking for, while coming up with some great ideas to keep it all within our budget. We used A&M to build and install three 10' long/2" thick shelves on "elfa" system's hanging standards hardware from the Container Store. Not only did he build a set of beautiful sturdy shelves, but also offered to pick the hardware for us from the Container store before the day of the installation so he could inspect and keep it all ready. Amazing workmanship, and flawless installation. A&M also built and installed five 72"H x 30"W x 15"D garage cabinets + a set of upper and lower cabinets - rows of three 30"W x 24"H x 12"D cabinets and drawers. Again, everything I mentioned in the paragraph above about the quality of work, willingness to come up with ideas to keep the project within budget, and installation process applies to this project as well. Highly recommended! Now on, Tony would be the only contractor we'd be turning to for any woodwork projects. Given his passion for details and aesthetics, Tony is in high demand by commercial projects, so depending on the size of your project, you might have to be flexible with the schedule when hiring A&M Cabinetry. It'd be worth the wait if you do.

My project size was 15 cabinet doors, 3 small drawer boxes, 3 large drawer boxes and one aesthetic drawer face. It's a smaller refacing project since it's a small condo. The lowest quote I received was $5,000 and the highest was $14,000. In terms of pricing, he was on the lower end but not the lowest but considering the quality and customer service it's definitely fair pricing. I was about to move forward with the lowest quote I received but it became clear that responsiveness and customer service were not priorities and I felt very deflated. Then I found Reza and his upbeat, responsive attitude reinvigorated me. Reza is a gem. His quirky personality and his passion and knowledge for his work become evident quickly. He got me samples of the colors I was considering painted on a wood panel and he always replied to me within the hour. Trust the process, go with his flow, tell him what you're looking for and you'll be so happy with the outcome. I'd recommend Reza to anyone I care about.

I cannot stress enough how much of a mistake it was to choose San Diego Custom Cabinets for our kitchen cabinets on an Encinitas project. The workmanship is absolutely appalling (bad). The cabinets started showing signs of wear and tear within just a year. Some panels (dishwasher) corroded and started peeling. The gaps between panels were uneven and unsightly at time of build but especially over time became worse, and to top it all off, the cabinets have actually changed color over time, going from a dark brown (walnut) to a tiger orange. It's obvious all materials were of the cheapest and lowest quality, but beyond that the company's response to these issues was to push back and simply state the warranty period had expired. I should add, it was not only the faces of the cabinets that failed miserably, but the boxes were poorly constructed, including cheap/failing hardware (like the trash pull out which constantly fails (hardware becomes loose and needs to be manually tightened monthly). At this point, we've had no choice but to demolish the entire cabinetry system. We have incurred massive costs (since prices have dramatically changed) and our clients are displaced during this demo period. I'm beyond disappointed with this purchase and this company and would strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere. As a company and brand, we will not be working with SD Custom Cabinets in the future. We will not be endorsing them. And if actual or prospective clients ask for our vote of confidence or recommendation, we will point them to this review.

Unfortunately, things began to fall apart shortly before finalizing my cabinet order. My final renderings were never properly completed. One entire room was missing from the plans, and major updates that were requested - including switching from frameless to framed cabinets (which affects cabinet sizing) - were never reflected in the drawings. It became very difficult to get in touch with anyone to finalize the order or receive updated plans. Eventually I went into the store in person, where Liad offered to "fix and finalize" everything on the spot. He manually drew out the new layout and entered the order on his phone, assuring us he was taking care of everything. However, no formal layout, purchase order, item list, cabinet sizes, or updated renderings were ever provided. I was told we could rely on the existing renderings and that getting formal updates from the designers would take too long. After paying, we heard nothing until my contractor informed me that cabinet boxes were being delivered. The delivery arrived without any paperwork, purchase order, or layout for my contractor and cabinet installer to reference. Once installation began, we discovered multiple issues: missing items, incorrect cabinet sizes, missing panels, and accessories that were the wrong size. Trying to resolve these problems was extremely frustrating. It was again difficult to reach Liad until we went back into the store. He repeatedly asked us to provide a list of what needed to be fixed, but that was difficult because we were never given a purchase order or layout showing what was actually ordered. What stood out most was the change in demeanor. Conversations that were initially helpful became defensive and dismissive. At one point he even questioned whether our installers "knew what they were doing," and suggested modifying cabinets to make incorrectly sized accessories fit instead of addressing the ordering mistakes. At this point I have had to purchase replacement panels, shelves, and accessories out of pocket from another cabinet store just to keep the project moving. Both my contractor and cabinet installer -- as well as staff at the other cabinet supplier -- were shocked by the experience and confirmed that this is not how a cabinet ordering process should work. My advice if you choose to work with this company is to triple-check everything and get all documentation in writing before paying. Make sure you receive final drawings, a purchase order, item numbers, and cabinet dimensions. It's unfortunate to have such a stressful experience during what should be an exciting part of a home remodel. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this business. There are many other cabinet suppliers that provide clearer communication and proper documentation.
