The restaurant is small and sports a modest front but the food is amazing. They have ramen, sushi, teppanyaki and bento box style lunches. Beer and wine are available. I had a mixed salad which was huge and a good mix of crisp, fresh vegetables. I also had the braised tofu which was perfectly done with a load of sautéed vegetables and a delicious brown sauce on it. The service was attentive and friendly, though knowing enough Spanish to communicate with the wait staff would be most advantageous. We were able to get by with our limited phrases. I'm also fond of it because although the selection is somewhat limited, the quality is always excellent, and the pricing isn't near as steep as others (like the above). Here, five pieces each of nigiri salmon and sole, plus a ten-piece creative prawn, avocado, tamago (egg) roll, and it came in at a grand total of 410 pesos (the nigiri alone, think about it, ten piece in total with rice, versus the 10 pieces above of sashimi without, came in at about 60% of the price). My one disappointment in the place is that they used to offer a moriawase of both sushi and sashimi - a mixed selection, rather than having to order five pieces of each kind - but apparently it's too much work to slice one piece each of five different fish rather than all the same one....

Ichisou is a bit of a hole in the wall - you might accidentally pass it on the street if you weren't looking for it. Open since the 50s and passed down from generation to generation, this restaurant serves classic Japanese cuisine in a city where this type of food is scarce. We started off the meal with a complimentary raw fish with onion dish and a shot of plum wine. I was able to try the following dishes: -- salmon sashimi and sushi roll: the salmon pieces here were DELICIOUS! I highly recommend getting raw fish. The pieces were thick and fresh. -- agedashi tofu: flavors were good but I wish they used a silkier tofu -- kimchi: apparently Ichisou gets a lot of Korean customers as well, the kimchi is very good and just the right amount of spice and crunch -- vegetable and shrimp tempura: great! Could be crispier -- ebifurai (fried prawn): I liked this better than the shrimp tempura but I thought this could also be more crispy -- chicken karaage (fried chicken): this was the only item I did not like. They came as strange chicken lollipops and were rather dry -- chawansumi (steamed egg): yum! Wish I ordered more of this. -- matcha ice cream: I do not recommend this. The matcha tasted strange, it might be because the richness of Argentinian milk overpowers the delicate matcha flavor. -- chocolate cake: I do recommend this, delicious! I thought most everything I had was really good. I wanted to try more sashimi but Ichisou only had salmon during my visit. It seems that they were busy during the holiday season since they ran out of ginger as well.

It's got a lot of cool decorations inside, and even has an area with tatami mats (no shoes allowed, of course). The food itself is pretty solid.
