FYI: This is the VISION CENTER in the MALL My husband and I recently went to the Vision center and I have to say if you're looking for a rude and un-polite experience, this is the place for you. The doctors are okay, however the entire experience is nothing but work. Trying to get an appointment seems like pulling teeth to these receptionists. They can't be bothered with you, and forget scheduling an appointment.... That is just to hard to do. The Spanish girl with brown hair is the worst one of all!!! I will NOT be returning because these people need to offer more than great glasses...they need some decent staff as well. I would rather spend more money and have a nice experience. I spent over 600.00 out of my own pocket, not including insurance, and somehow these women made me fill like I was trash! Wal-Mart has better staff, and that doesn't say a lot in my opinion. This is the "McDonald's" of eye care. If all you need are new lenses or such, I'm sure its fine. We called with a worrisome issue, a possible retinal tear. We were told Dr Katz could see and diagnose, so went went right down (because they were listed as a provider on our VSP vision plan) Katz did a quick eye exam and assured us all was fine and just needed new contacts, said these symptoms "happens to many people at 60". Low and behold, days later (while we wait for the new contacts to "come in") my husbands symptoms are getting worse... So I called and spoke to a GP doctor who said there is NO WAY anyone can just look into an eye - even an OD -- without dilating the pupils to see a retinal tear. There could be a torn retina still - that we dont know about. A dilation was NOT done by Dr Katz... so his reassurance was worthless. We wasted time, and could still possibly have an emergency issues that could cause my husband to go blind. Is this the industry standard of eye care? I hope not! In years past we've gotten contacts there, with mediocre results... but it's a walk in vision place in the mall.... what can you expect?? For our eyesight we want a real ophthalmologist who knows what they are doing. Please dont guess and gamble with our eyesight. The least Katz could have done is take and look and say "seems OK on the surface, but I recommend you get a dilation, and I don't do that" Geesh. That said we had NO issues with any of the staff...They were all fine, and friendly. The setting was hectic and busy with a lo of walk ins... and the staff was preoccupied, but for good reason. read more

Dr. Katz is fine and actually seemed to care. The office staff are a bunch of bickering, GREEDY children! I confirmed with my insurance that there would be no out of pocket expense before even going to their office. Half way through my exam they wanted $45 to continue. I called my insurance company and verified, again, that there were no fees that I would have to pay. They agreed and I handed the phone to the person that I was talking to, Angel. He spoke with my insurance then told me I was correct and continued the exam. They had me come back in one week for a fitting on the trial lenses that they gave me. As soon as I sat down, they wanted $190 for my lenses. I told them, AGAIN, that the insurance will cover the lenses. The lady stepped away for less than 60 seconds then returned and said that I was correct. Who could she possibly have talked to in that short amount of time?? We completed the final fitting and they said they would call me when the lenses arrived. Jokingly, I asked them to verify that they weren't going to try to charge me again when we went to pick them up. An older gentleman with grey hair, glasses and a great personality agreed that that would not happen again. My wife went to pick up my lenses about 1 1/2 weeks later and, GUESS WHAT, they wanted $55 this time claiming that it was for the exam fee. First of all, it was only $45 last time. Secondly, there wasn't supposed to be ANY charges. I called the office a few days later and verified this with Angel. He agreed and transferred me to Chis. After explaining this entire situation to her (even though she kept trying to talk over me) she flat out argued with me. When I had finally had enough and my voice raised a bit (a bit!) she hung up on me. I'm guessing she missed her nap at kindergarten that day. She called me back about 5 minutes later. I was expecting an apology. Boy, was I wrong! She informed me that she was sending my lenses back to the manufacturer and before I could reply, (guess what this little child did) YEP! Hung up on me again. It's not bad enough that I don't have the money to pay their extortion fees, now I have to drive an extra 35+ miles (to Big Bear) to see another eye Doctor and start all over again. Just do yourself a favor and avoid this office! I WISH I had looked at the other ratings and reviews on Yelp.com before I went there!! An OVERALL rating of 1.5/5 pretty much says it all!!! read more

A horrible place to do business with! The office staff are incompetent! I went in to get a pair of safety glasses for work and got the run around. I walked out went to lenscrafters and had my glasses the same day. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere! read more

Went once and never going back. Don't know his name but the bigger old guy was extremely rude to the point that he made one of my children cry,and never even apologized. The front receptionist then excused his behavior ,because he "was having a bad day" but its still not okay to be rude to your patients. On top of it he basically told all of us we had no issues and were fine, then later, we went to a different place and my kids that said they had eye issues ended up needing glasses. Only nice one was the tall older man that does the first half of the eye exam (where they blow in the eye, ext) HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Save your time and money. read more

I think the other folks were pretty harsh (See Dr. Katz duplicate listing). This place has a pretty good selection of frames, but they are ALWAYS busy. They take walk-ins like crazy, so you never can tell if you're going during a rush or not. The staff are all pretty nice and friendly, but you can definitely see that they are worn out. Once its your turn though, they provide you their undivided attention and they help you through selection and ultimately pickup. I didn't end up buying anything here, but did bring some frames that I purchased elsewhere to have lenses put in. The experience was good, friendly, and quick. I'll definitely be back, but doubt I'll get my exam here because of the mad rush of people. read more

I went in recently foe an eye exam and also purchased some glasses , The office staff at front desk did not seem very friendly , I did not wait very long , the exam was conducted and I saw the eye doctor , don't know his name because he did not greet me or introduce himself , just called my name , during the exam the Dr was having his lunch , eating and drinking while conducting my exam , also not very friendly ... later I ordered a pair of glasses and was told they would be ready in a few hours , they were ready on time but when I received my glasses , the tech did not even check to see if they fit and the glasses had some kind of black smudges on one of the lenses , she just gave me the glasses and walked away , I did not bring this to anyone's attention because frankly I don't think they care one way or another , being busy is not an excuse for providing poor service .........Will never return to this establishment again read more

First off, I will say that the actual Doctor and the lab staff are professional and seem knowledgeable. But I DO NOT recommend going there. I called ahead to ask about pricing because I'm on a very tight budget. They were friendly on the phone and quoted me some good prices and told me about pennysaver coupons. They said the coupons were for something specific, but that I could just pay the difference if I wanted something else. Our appointment was at 12:15. We sat in the waiting room until about 1. I did politely ask the receptionist if she knew about how long it might be and without looking up at me said "He'll be with you any minute." After the exam, the lady (sales?) started to quote incredibly high prices at me (around $350) for "custom order" contacts and I stopped her right there because I had done some internet research and knew I could buy the contacts online for $190. I asked her just to give me the prescription so I could order online. She flat out said no because they needed to do a fitting (which is standard, I know, but they wanted me to pay for the contacts for the fitting). I tried to find a solution but she blocked me at every turn saying no without even trying to work with me. Finally I asked if I could take the prescription if we signed a waiver saying they weren't responsible if the prescription was wrong. They allowed that. Then I asked about glasses because they were offering a pair of plastic lenses and free frames for $49. I knew that I would have to pay extra for a higher prescription and polycarbonate lenses, but the prices she was quoting me were outrageous. A pair of glasses there would have cost me $400+. Walmart offers the exact same glasses (plus scratch resistance/uv protection/antiglare etc) for $140 plus frames ($9-$99). So I just asked for the prescriptions so I could buy elsewhere. She told me that the $75 coupon I had for an exam was extra because the prescription was high or something and after arguing with her, we ended up paying $125 and still didn't have a guarantee that the prescription was correct. This was the worst optometrist experience i have ever had. They lure you in with cheap coupons and force you to spend your money there and then keep adding extra charges, not to mention being rude and unhelpful. Again, the doctor and lab staff was great, but the sales and reception staff are terrible. I wish I had gone ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

I dont get the reviews I've read. I went to the vision center of victor valley at the mall. My optometrist was Dr.. Howard Nguyen O.D. and I was very happy. He was great and very concerned about my contact wearing. I have abused the way I wear contacts for years and my eyes have suffered because of it. Anyway I was getting glassed now and went in for a coupon I had found to get the cheapest and best deal. I was treated wonderful there and they were spot on with all my needs. The doctor treated me like I was his only patient and the man who went to correctly adjust my glasses when I got them sat and answered all my questions and was really nice and I walked out with new glasses in an hour , not a penny more than the coupon claimed and they gave me a precription for my eyes due to the contact wear neglect. I was thrilled and he is now my only Optometrist I will ever go to. read more

I got glasses there a couple of years ago and they were fine. This time a completely different story. The prescription was instantly wrong. I was told to try them for 30 days and if I my eyes didn't adjust come back. I didn't need to wait the 30 days. Shapes were distorted, I couldn't read, distant vision was blurry, lights at night were starbursts and halos everywhere. I walked like I was drunk because of the distortion. I went back and they checked my prescription with the "Frankenstein" glasses that you put in a series of lenses and everything was perfect. They took my glasses and sent them off for another two weeks. I got them back and they were better but I still had most of the other vision problems. Give them another 30 days for your eyes to adjust, they said. I still can't use the glasses and I doubt that they can fix the problem anyway. I went back and I asked for my money back. They want more than 30% restocking charge. I don't think so. If they just did their job, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I am now trying to get my bank to take back 100% and then let the vision center come to me for resolution. read more
