He taught me a few new things about middle eastern food and he was very helpful in that regard. I ordered the gyro plate and at the last minute decided to just eat in rather than take-out. So, I had a seat and the man at the counter brought out a very delicious chicken and corn chowder which was an unexpected surprise and I really enjoyed it greatly. Then, as I finished the soup, he brought out the gyro plate which was stacked generously with rice, meat, sauce with lettuce, tomato and onions. The meat was delicious, the Greek tzatziki cucumber sauce was very good also. Overall, for a very reasonable cost of about $15 I had a very satisfying meal that I struggled to even finish. Very good value. I will return with the family and I can recommend Darya to anyone looking for a meal! I did notice some very negative reviews, and I suspect that this could be related to cultural misunderstandings perhaps? I especially wanted to see if their lamb shank was still the "star" from my last visit and to try their meat kabobs. So what did we order. 1) Lamb shank (2 orders): again, i believe this entree is one of the best items here. The shank is braised so well that the meat comes right off the bone without any efforts. The flavor is exceptional. it arrives on a bed of rice, hummus, greek salad, and pita bread. This is an item i would order without hesitation. 2) Chicken kabob skewers plate: 6 pieces of boneless white meat that is grilled once the order is placed. The chicken had a nice char and looked great. But the flavor was very mild and grilled a little too long which made the meat a tad dry...perhaps the chicken needed to be marinated longer for the spices to penetrate but the dryness was in preparation over the grill. 3) chicken and beef kabobs skewers plate: again the chicken was grilled a tad too long which made the pieces dry. the beef was moist and had a nice flavor. It also comes with rice and a salad. 4) mixed plate: sliced meat from a rotisserie spit on top of a bed of rice and topped with tzatziki sauce and hot sauce, hummus and greek salad. the sliced meat was a bit dry but more tzatziki sauce on the meat helped. The side salads were very basic. The pita bread is not as soft and fresh as the ones from Jayna Gyro on Alhambra blvd. But I would give 4 stars for the lamb shank and 2-3 stars for the grilled and chicken and beef kabob and rotisserie chicken sliced from the spit.

Rather than give up, I decided to try this Afghan restaurant--and I am so glad I did! The lamb kebab was absolutely outstanding: tender, flavorful, and packed with spices that complemented the meat perfectly. Best of all, it wasn't overly salty, which allowed all of the rich flavors to shine through. The rice was equally impressive--perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and delicious enough to enjoy all by itself. In fact, the food was so good that I've already ordered it twice! When I got home, I shared some with my parents. After just one taste, they immediately put away the dinner they had planned to make and asked for the restaurant's address. Before long, I was ordering delivery for them too. That's how good it is. It's not often that I discover a new favorite restaurant, but this place has absolutely earned that distinction.
