Discovering Sacramento eateries... This is definitely one of those hidden gems that is definitely off the beaten path. Seating in the restaurant is pretty minimal, and in fact, when you walk in, you may not feel necessarily welcomed, set that all aside you're there for the food! Interestingly, enough, there seems to be three similar but different cuisines that are offered, and everything is scrumptious sounding. The restaurant is Halal, which also means that there is going to be an additional level of cleanliness and everything that they do. We both ended up ordering the Gyro plate, with the three meat options. Beef, lamb, and chicken. Everything about this plate is mouth watering delicious. I really preferred the beef and lamb as the pieces were well seasoned, well cooked, and the meat was so juicy and tasty kept me more and more! The chicken was also delicious but my preference really is for the beef and lamb. The plate comes with rice, which is very flavorful and fluffy. The meat is actually served on top of it and as you're enjoying, it gets all mixed together. There is a side salad of sorts. That is cold, fresh and a nice addition. The sauce that they put on top is really tasty, and they bring a cold bottle of it along with a hotter version to the table. They also bring 1/4 size piece of pita per order. It served warm, I would've preferred more pita! They don't offer actual glasses of water, but they do offer bottled water that they charge for, along with some of the other soft drinks. They do serve complementary soup that was really delicious. Not only is this a must try for the food, but the food is so reasonably priced, you'll absolutely wonder why you haven't been here already. read more

My parents and I had the best experience at Darya in Sacramento. They have some really good, fresh, well-made food. We ordered the specialty kabob combo, chapli kabob, Aushak, and qabuli, and everything was delicious. The kabobs were flavorful, soft and perfectly cooked. The chapli kabob was absolutely amazing, super tasty with just the right amount of spice. The Aushak and qabuli were also great! If you're looking for authentic Afghan cuisine in Sacramento, this place is definitely worth trying. We'll be coming back for sure read more

Please help me keep this gem around!!! My husband and I live nearby and just noticed it for the first time today. We immediately decided to get lunch and bring it home. I got the Mantu (dumplings) and my husband got the chicken kabob plate. We shared a hummus. The mantu was different than anything I've had before and I loved it! Freshly made and flavorful. My husband's chicken was unbelievably moist and tasty. The rice was seriously one of my favorite things of the meal. Who knew that rice could be so perfect. The guys working there were so kind - to me and to each other. Although I couldn't understand their conversation, their energy and the way they spoke to each other was beautiful. I wished we would have been eating there. Next time! Why 4 stars? The baklava was just okay and the hummus didn't come with any thing to dip which I thought was weird. Oh man this place was disgusting! My chicken was literally raw and pink from the inside. The first few bites I took were so chewy and had a smell. I was so upset. Paid $26 for my plate and left it just the way the picture is shown. read more

I am a fan! Restaurants like this are hard to come by! There is pride and heart and soul in an establishment like this, which I hope is never lost. You walk in and get treated like family! Modest interior--clean and minimally decorated. You order at a counter and seat yourself. We were then served bonus soups out of adorable paper bowls. Like you would be served when visiting a friend's or family member's home. The soup was off menu and reminded me of a hearty sweet and sour soup. It was very good! And very unexpected. We then were served our order--we got the falafel plate, stick cheese sandwich, samosas, hummus, and garlic fries...WOW! Generous portions for everything and the prices are so competitive. Everything was delicious! We enjoyed everything we ordered and had plenty to take back with us! The owner even brought us a sample of the phirni because we had asked about it and it immediately became a family favorite that we will most definitely be ordering next time! We are looking forward to returning. This restaurant really is a gem and worth visiting. read more

Gyro and fries were good, dolmas were basic but tasty. Would not get the falafel again, they're tiny and dry, and when I asked for a sauce I was given ketchup... Wasn't a super welcoming spot and it could use some fixing up, especially the bathroom. read more

We went on a Sunday for lunch as a young family with 3 young kids after hearing good things posted by moms in our neighborhood. This old strip mall isn't seen from the main street, so we hope they can find customers. Inside, it's clean, orderly, fresh, and quiet with a TV playing calm cooking videos of middle eastern families. We were the only customers present. We got 2 gyro combo plates with chicken, the samosas, and the gyro fries. We ordered to go and decided to dine in, so the smiley man (probably the owner) brought us silverware and plates, and checked on us several times. We probably over-ordered 1-2 items because of the large portions, and took 1.5 home. If you like SPICY, this is for you: the salad came with jalapeño and lemon slices; and the samosas are filled with potato and spicy pepper/s. The chicken has a unique and tasty seasoning- including ground cardamom. The gyro is delicious. I recommend this to anyone who likes an adventure, wants to support a hidden local business neighbors, and likes spicy. read more

The chicken gyro is delicious. Tender chicken and fresh vegetables, wrapped in a soft, warm pita. Yum, yum! I particularly liked the quality of chicken pieces - all nice meat, well trimmed. I visited fairly late in the evening, and I was the only customer at the time. In the dining area were several employees/friends, relaxing and chatting. When I entered, they kinda jumped up and welcomed me in, like they were happy to serve me. Too often, in other restaurants, the employee reaction is more like a sigh and an eyeroll, as if I am interupting their private club. But at Darya Restaurant, the employees were professional and friendly. I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

This place is AMAZING!! Saw that it was a new place, and decided to give it a try for dinner. I will be making this my new lunch spot because everything was absolutely delicious. The owner is a very humble man and even brought us extra sauces. He could use more business, and his food is worth it so if you're in the area, please give it a try!! This place is outstanding, I keep coming back for the chicken gyro sandwich with fries and the complementary soup is fantastic!

You will not stumble on this place because of its location. I went on a weeknight about an hour before closing. There was no one in the restaurant so I didn't feel comfortable eating in. The employee - maybe the owner - was very nice, gave me a great recommendation, and threw in an extra sauce or two. The food was good, especially for the price. Defy give them a try. read more
