Don at Darts Central is awesome. My girlfriend and I went in today to get sets of darts. We are both beginners. Don took time to help us try several darts, multiple shaft lengths and flights. He spent a great deal of time instructing us how to properly set up and throw darts. I don't know of another sports store that would go above and beyond. He even taught us a simpler version of cricket and had us play a game with our new sets of darts. Cannot give him high enough praise and ratings. If there were 6 stars I would give them. Came in and saw they had a dart league going on. Met the owner, Don, very nice and welcoming. He let us in with our dog and we watched his team play darts! The store has great space, it's clean, lots of room and high ceilings. He's got a lot of cool stuff like poker tables and Foosball in addition to all the dart supplies he offers. He's also got 5 dart boards around the store so you can use to shoot or test out your darts before buying them. Overall really liked the place, cool little hangout spot. Maybe it's because I can't hold a relationship together and need a hobby. Maybe it's because the only 'sports' I'm good at involve a beer in my hand. Maybe it's because I'm secretly aggro and enjoy throwing sharp objects. For whatever reason, darts have been a good constant in my life this summer, and I've become fairly decent at them and enjoy a good game. In any case, darts at most bars suck... They're usually all different weights, the flights are ratty and torn and trying to throw them consistently is a crap shoot. So I decided to get my own. Enter Yelp. Esoteric shops like this would never be discovered by me without the little burst logo helping out. I found A Darts Central with some creative searching and ventured down with my roommate to the outskirts of San Francisco to actually try out barrel weights and grips and get some pointers from a zen-like dart player named Don. We had all kinds of questions that he refused to answer outright. He made us shoot to get a physical connection with the darts like David Carradine learning the ways of kung fu. Okay, so we were only in there an hour, but it certainly changed my game with just a few pointers. But you get to pick out every aspect of the darts from barrel to shaft to flights. I think it took less time to purchase my first car. And Don even gave us a quick lesson and taught us how we were shooting wrong. So now I'm armed with some new found techniques and a shiny new dart set to intimidate other players with at the bar. If you want to start playing with regularity, go check this hole in the wall out and get going the right way. Did I mention they aren't very expensive? I just spent two hours with Don, while he walked me through the process of picking and building a set of darts that I'd like. He also told me a ton of fascinating stories about the darts world. Was in town for work and found the reviews on yelp. They are spot on Don is a great guy. Worked with my coworker and I to find great sets of darts. My coworker is a beginner to darts and Don helped him out with his game. It was a fun time and Don was more than willing to provide a high level of customer service. He was also very informative about upcoming tournaments and leagues in the area. I am from the East coast so we talked about the differences in the leagues. After searching all over the internet for a good darts shop, I found this place. There were other dart shops that were closer to me, but Darts Central sounded like was the best. So I drove an hour to this shop and was greeted by Don, the shop owner. I told him I was looking to upgrade from my cheap brass darts. He explained the process of selecting the right darts from all of the pieces he had in stock. I got to try out different barrels and shafts until I found the perfect combination for me. Once I found the setup that I liked, he encouraged me to keep throwing them and make sure I liked them. While I was throwing he gave me a couple pointers on how to improve my technique. After about 45 minutes another customer came in asking about some new shafts for his darts. The customer challenged me to a game of cricket. We played a couple games while Don helped us both with our game. I highly suggest making the trip to Darts Central if you a looking to buy some darts! read more

I spent about an hour and a half with Don yesterday. I am a beginner darter, and was overwhelmed by the various websites and massive amount of opinions, videos, etc on the web in terms of what darts to get. Weight, style flight, etc. The best way...the only way...to buy darts is to actually throw them. Don helped me narrow down from many many many types fo barrels etc. We went through all of the various shaft sizes and styles...same with flights. All the while, bs'ing about Darts, watching the championships on tv. His shop is small, comfortable, and warm. he did not over-sell at all...if anything, he kept trying to guide me towards more economical darts, boards, etc. I highly recommend that you go into this shop to see Don. His expertise in this sport is second only to the service you receive when visiting his store. Don is very helpful and will spend time with his customers, allowing them to try out his supplies for as long as they want. He stresses that only the customer can know what type of dart is right for him or her. The process can be compared to selecting a wand in harry potter. currently, this place does not accept credit cards, so bring cash. Don runs a great shop. Some things are out of date, like the hours painted on the outside of the building. But he sells dart supplies for cheap, you go painting the building and prices will go up. As far as the 3 star review because Dart Central is tough to get on public transit, really? That jack ass is the type that give Yelpers a bad name. I throw darts in my garage at night to relax. I notice if I'm harassed after a stressful day at work and my mind is racing, I can't hit the targets on the board and oftentimes just give up. My job requires a lot of multi tasking and I always seem to be in a hurry to go from one task to another. The game of darts is best played with a calm mind and body. My visit to A Darts Central yesterday was intended to be another quick task..run in without throwing money in the meter and buy some feathers. The moment I entered and met Don I felt that "calm" atmosphere required to throw darts successfully.
