Dart is an excellent way to get around the Dallas metroplex. The trains run on a regular schedule that is prompt on arrivals and departures. Dart has struggled with security on train to detract people that do not pay for trips. Homeless tend to ride free to the airport get off train and back on is a constant pattern. The cars are on occasion filled with trash and smelly. However, DART is working diligently to have security placed on trains and seems to be working. I hope that they can keep security on trips to help make DART a safe traveling experience. read more

Not sure what is going on at DART but the environment on the trains has gone down hill. I've already stopped riding it in the mornings and I'm looking to end using it completely as soon as possible. Every train I rode between Pearl Arts and Parker this week had people smoking weed on it. Only one Driver made an announcement saying to put it out. I also witnessed open drug dealing. I never saw Police or Security officers of any kind on any trains. One train's floor was so sticky that my feet continued to stick to the sidewalk after I exited the train for half a block. A review to and from DFW Airport to Downtown Dallas. I was a bit nervous about my transfer to the DART system to go Downtown after flying into Dallas Fort Worth Airport as it was my first time in Dallas or Texas for that matter. I had done my research and saw that the DART connection was in Terminal A. After leaving the gate and taking the SkyLink train from my arriving Terminal (Terminal E) to Terminal A, I followed signs to get to the DART train. Keep in mind that there are two Terminal A SkyLink stops. The stop with the lower gate numbers is where you need to get off for the DART train. The SkyLink Train and Skyline Maps should all indicate this. Once you leave the SkyLink Train you simply follow the signs to the DART System. Keep in mind that it will take you outside of the terminal for a short walk to the DART System. There are two machines there which give you a bunch of options. If you are only going downtown once like I was, you simply purchase the $2.50 2-hour "local" pass. There is an option for a $5 full-day pass as well as weekly and other options. There are also "regional" passes which can take you to areas outside of the DART System. Please look on their website ahead of time to gain a better understanding of the limitations of the "local" and "regional" systems. The machines accept credit cards and cash (included $1 coins). Luckily the train conductor was there helping someone purchase their ticket which was nice. The conductors (there were two for the entire ride) were very nice. The ride from the airport to Downtown Dallas takes just under an hour. Something else to keep in mind is that you hold onto your ticket "in the event" that you are requested to present it. There are no turnstyles (like in NYC or DC) or staff collecting tickets. You simply hold onto it. I sense a lot of trust there... read more

Some routes better than others. Many routes have terrible time frames that do not match the arrivals. You'll see 3-4 buses going the other way before yours arrives. The light rail is much better except there are always, always sketchy people on them. If they just had all the routes at 30min intervals, it would be much easier. read more

From out of state visiting in Dallas. Was concerned about traffic, car theft, vandalism, etc, planned to ride Dart train from Mockingbird Station to Fair Park for an event starting at 730pm, almost 3 hours long. Dart was fine to ride at 6pm, but the return ride was full of so many homeless sleeping in the seats that it was a challenge to get seating in the same area for the three of us. It was sad to see that many homeless folks, and sad that Dart is only serving a tiny amount of the population (those who must use it as their only means of transportation), because of the amount of homeless. Those with no other means of transportation must dislike using it as well for this reason. I would not ride this train system after 6pm. read more

When it works, the DART is a nice mass transportation option. However, it does not work far too often, and provides very poor service to make things right when it does not work: - I have witnessed two people try to purchase monthly passes at the automated terminals, and the machine took their money and provided no passes (the second time was this morning, 1/31/17). When each of my friends called "customer service" for assistance, the customer service people confirmed that their accounts had been charged, but could not provide a pass or a refund. I am grateful to be retired, and not need to use the DART and subject myself to the frustrations my friends have experienced. Caveat Emptor- you may be ripped off, with no competent DART service to rectify the issue. I recommend you use a credit card for ticket purchase transactions if possible, and dispute-do not pay the charges if you experience the "take your money but get no pass" trick described above. read more

Prior to the pandemic, I was a frequent user of both Dart Lightrail and the bus. I started going back downtown a few weeks ago (11/16/22) and was appalled with how bad it has gotten. I was having trouble with the app and buying my ticket, so I tried to get one at the platform. The machines were dirty and broken and I couldn't get any of the 4 machines to work. Thankfully, I ended up getting the app to work. When I boarded, there were about 12 sleeping homeless wrapped in their sleeping bags filling up an entire car and occupying all the seats with their belongings. I get that they need somewhere warm to stay, but the lightrail is not a mobile hotel or a restroom. The seats were FILTHY. What was once blue is now a crusted over light brown. I had to change cars a few times before I found the rest of the commuters. On my ride back at the end of the day there were two kids smoking a cigar, laced with weed. I know there is an app to report these issues to, but the culprits usually deboard at the next station before enforcement can arrive. Dart raised the rates a few years ago and said it was for more security and policing. I didn't see a single police officer, except the one that checked tickets that morning. The rail has really gotten run down. It is downright unclean and foul. I will no longer be riding. It was just gross. read more

Up until yesterday I felt safe on DART. Up until yesterday DART would have received three maybe even four stars from me. I no longer feel safe riding DART; I fear for my safety as well as the safety of my car. Yesterday my car was burglarized at the Jupiter/Forest station. This was a car that had an alarm and was not an easy target. This is a job that would have taken the criminals a substantial amount of time. An amount of time that should never had been allowed in broad daylight while I was at work. What do the DART police actually do? Just issue citations? How's about protecting the fare-paying customers' most valuable asset and securing the parking lots. Don't think it'll happen to you; I felt the same - park at any DART station and I assure you it will. Worse than getting my car vandalised and $4,000 worth of merchandise stolen is the fact that the DART police won't do anything to catch the thieves. This criminal behavior in the parking lots is almost applauded. It would seem the criminals are aware of this because they don't shy away from heists that span hours just feet away from the stop. I rode DART to save money on gas and to be more environmentally conscious. The amount these burglars have cost me is exponentially greater than any money saved by taking the DART train. Park at your own risk; I would recommend taking your car with you to work. There is absolutely NO security at these stations and I now fear for the well being of my car and to a greater extent my life (well I no longer fear because I drive to work). Alright, so our city doesn't have the same level of efficient mass transit as many of the larger cities across the country. But DART is trying to expand and improve the services, which is a start. Money wise, DART is a great way to get around cheaply, especially if a line can drop you near your workplace during the week. When I worked downtown, I gladly forked over the money for a monthly pass ($50 or so at the time), and had unlimited rides on the local lines. If you'll be using the rail sporadically, the monthly pass probably isn't as economic, so check out the weekly passes or simple day passes instead. During the week, the lines run pretty frequently, so you generally won't wait long for the next train to show up. Anytime I do something downtown that could require fighting for a spot in an expensive parking garage or dealing with rush hour traffic, I opt for DART instead. My friends & I even used it to get to the State Fair this weekend and, for the most part, had a flawless trip. It got a little crowded towards the end of the ride, but it was a weekend afterall. All of that being said, the drop off points are a bit scattered once you're out of the downtown area. Sure, a lot of stations have parking lots so you can drop off your vehicle and ride from there, but its not quite the same as being able to walk to and from stations with ease. Sadly, our fair city is too spread out to allow that right now. Weekend schedules can be a little skimpy, so check out departure and arrival times before trotting down to your nearest station. Last year, some stops were redone and revamped, which keeps them from looking sketchy or unkempt. A new style of car was also added to the rail, which allows for easier wheelchair access and the ability to hang your bike in a designated area rather than stand in a walkway like before. The addition of the Green Line will help more of the city become easily accessible as well. Again, I'm happy for the expansion, just sad that its been a little slow. read more

I only have a limited experience with the DART Light Rail line, but I did like the convenience of it. I rode the Green Line after a race that finished at the Cotton Bowl. The stations were nice, clean and seemed to go to places that people congregate; the Green Line has stops at the downtown arenas, West End, Baylor Medical Center and the Cotton Bowl. The line moved quickly through the stations and the kiosks were easy to interpret: a one way ticket is a not-so-bad $1.75. While waiting for the train and staring at one of the route murals on the wall, it looks like they are continuing to expand this line and I wholeheartedly approve. One of my fellow riders commented that they are expanding this to the DFW airport which would be fantastic. It's nice to have other options than sitting in endless traffic on the freeway. read more

Dart really needs to pay more attention! I rode the train to city place in Dallas with my grandparents and my 2 kids when we got off the doors literally shut on my grandparents and my 3 year old son. My grandmother and I along with my infant made it off the train but the doors would not stay open. My grandfather fell on the steps from all of the commotion with the doors shutting on him, my grandmother and my son. He and my 3 year old almost could not get off of the train before it left! This was THE worst experience! I'm so glad my grandfather was on the train with my son because had the train left with just my son that would be terrifying and I would be suing! And to top it off the stop we got off at is underground so there was no cell service to call 911 had it been just my son! read more

This is a review of the whole DART system, including the light rail, but also buses and the TRE. After using the DART for several years, it finally occurred to me to write a review. It's great as a novelty. Maybe you're going to the AAC or some special event downtown, and you don't feel like paying for parking that's going to be expensive or far from the venue. For use as everyday transportation, however, it's terrible. I won't compare it to other cities with mass transit, because we all know it's worse, and we don't have the option of taking those other systems to work or school every day. I'm just rating it based on how well it serves the metroplex. The light rail doesn't go to very many places, but it is expanding (hence the two stars instead of one). Unless you're going downtown or to the West Village or Mockingbird station, chances are you'll have to park and ride or transfer to a bus, and that's when things get really sketchy and confusing. The light rail is slow, and I've never been in a situation where taking it was faster than a car. It's mainly to save money on parking. I took the TRE and DART from the Arlington area (Centreport DFW) to downtown for several years. It took me twice as long to get to work over driving, and I had to wake up earlier. The only reason I did it was because my office paid for the DART pass, so I saved money on gas (even though I still had to drive 6 miles to the nearest station). I now live in Dallas without a car (yes, I know that's my own stupidity), and I take the light rail pretty frequently. I find that the trains are often not on schedule, and sometimes they depart before the scheduled time, forcing me to wait 20 minutes for the next one. It's definitely not a good option if you have to be anywhere in a timely manner. I considered taking the DART bus to school, since there's a stop at my school and one by my apartment, but the shortest trip time for that 10 mile journey is two hours, due to transfers and waiting for the next bus. Sorry, but it's really not worth waking up at 4 a.m. My longest trip was probably when I took the DART light rail and TRE to Ft. Worth. This journey also took two hours, which is more reasonable because of the long distance, but it would have taken under an hour in a car. Long story short, the DART system is not practical for everyday use. Even if your home and office are on the DART line, you still have to go to everyday places like the grocery store, gym, doctor's appointments, socializing, etc., and it will not serve all those needs. The fact that 3 times in the last 2 weeks the bus hasn't shown is enough to make me livid. Fist 2 Saturdays ago the the last 529 didn't show at Royal lane station to take me back to Walnut Hill and Marsh lane forced me to walk back or wait an hour in a dangerous area with no dart officers around which is standard now. The smell is usually quite potent. Depending on who is next to you really determines (between the lines. ..) if it's pleasant or unbearable. All trains are always on time. Although the timer for each can run a little slow on updates. Now, I can not say the same thing about buses. They are always late or Super early. Its all the same for them. Whether you are on the train or bus be sure to carry headphones with you. On the bus the other day a female jumped out of her seat screaming (mind you, my head phones are up full blast) at the bus driver. Taking the headphones off I soon learned a man from the streets had been following her for over the past half hour. The appearance alone explained the stalker and his intentions. She began crying and weeping. "Why does this happen to me?." Thank mankind for the invention of headphones. I would have arrived at my destination bald if I heard that the remainder of my trip. Oh the DART. The complicated relationship of love hate. The beautiful thing about the DART is that I can go anywhere along the line for about $550/yr with my corporate discounts and all that. The bad is that jeez the bus line is about as reliable as a mesh umbrella. I have waited 40 minutes for a bus to show up and in that interval there should have been two buses go through. The DART train is not nearly as inconsistent but it definitely fills up on the rush hour. You will stand for a long time if you are going from downtown Dallas to Plano. The big negative for the DART line is their customer service. I have called in several times and emailed asking for information on project status and on issues with the delays and haven't ever received an answer. Not even a "we are looking into your issue" email or voicemail. As with all public transit, you will have your typical sketchy looking individuals but I haven't felt threatened on the DART line just yet. read more

I'm a huge fan of public transportation and honestly wish I could rely on it and not have a car. I've only used the DART a handful of times since moving to Dallas to ride to/from DFW since I travel frequently for work and it's cost effective, $2.50 for local and $5 regional, all day passes. There's even an easy app to purchase tickets. The train has been incredibly reliable, and follows the schedule to a T. That being said I do not feel completely safe riding the train. I'm constantly harassed by other riders. I consider myself friendly but sometimes I just don't want to be bothered by someone tapping my arm asking to use my phone, asking me if I'm married, wanting to talk about my looks, asking where I'm from, if I have extra money, etc etc- you get the point. And I sh*t you not, as I'm writing this post a homeless man is yelling and swearing, and using racist comments to another rider who is also threatening him as well. Why is there no security leaving the airport and checking riders from the start for their tickets? I did see 1 cop walk once through and it was the perfect timing because a rider had gotten up and sat directly in front of me and sat facing me. When he saw the cop he turned around and faced straight. Hmmm. So anyway, riders beware- it's cheap, reliable but there are some weird mofo's on there. read more

The OTP (on-time performance) from what I saw was excellent. The system is affordable, efficient and systematic in its route selection. The bus and train operators were courteous and efficient. I live in Plano. Started a new job in Downtown Dallas. I take DART every day. Now, I need to consider if this job can really work out due to CONSTANT DART delays. In the last 30 days approximately, 4 times all passengers had to get off the train due to trains not completing their routes. We were informed due to power line repairs. This is a horrible, pitiful and unacceptable streak of this particular occurrence. What a bona fide failure and mess DART is. DART is as DART goes. It's great to have public transportation and by and large, the fees are reasonable. Plus it's great to have a consistent commute time. I don't like the ease of getting on without a ticket - unless you are challenged by a DART staffer, you could ride for free. That leads to all sorts of problems, as you can imagine. On the morning of August 13, 2021 there were 2 buses in a row on the No. 205 route that didn't show up at the Addison Transit Center (the 8:00 a.m. and the 8:20 a.m.) because, believe it or not, according to customer service, they didn't have any drivers! Needless to say, there were many people who were over an hour late for work because of this. How in the world can a transit system not have enough drivers to accommodate the schedule? Are you kidding me? Is it not someone's responsibility to keep track of something like this? If DART knew this why was there no mention of it on it's app or the website, and why was there no one from DART at the transit center to answer questions and to tell people what was going on? Dallas is growing up. When I landed in Big D back in the mid 80s there was barely public transit at all; The DART transit bus of the day reminded me of that bus you see at the beginning of "Mary Tyler Moore Show"; Very dated, run down, often seen with caky powder soot around the exhaust. As the years passed, Dallas upgraded to more modern busses, the ones in use today, but things didn't really change until the "light rail" trains came onto the scene. Now Dallas is a real city, albeit still in it's infancy compared to the New Yorks and San Franciscos of the country. But this baby city has potential: The Dart Light Rail system is connecting various Northern areas with the heart of downtown. And the system is expanding fast, with new destinations being DFW Airport, then Fort Worth in the near future. The price is ridicudonkly el cheapo. Want a day-pass to go anywhere around Dallas county? $4 unlimited. The company I work for has a deal with DART and offers employees anywhere unlimited subscription-based passes for $9 a month. Really, $9? Is the Dart Rail system finally the answer to the car ownership requirement of living in Dallas, Texas? Well, no. Not YET. The Dart Light Rail system connects, for the most part, Northern parts of the city with Downtown. There are no concentrically connected East / West-bound trains, at least for now. That means if you're in Carrollton and you want to travel to Garland, you'll need to use the bus system. Good luck with that, and Godspeed. I'm keeping my car for now. And no DART Rail Wi-Fi? Really? Take a lesson from BART and get some online action on the trails. I mean really. *** Dave's DART Light Rail Survival Guide *** As with any public transit system, there comes a certain danger element. Yes, people have already died being robbed and whatnot on the train (happens everywhere, sadly). But heed my advice, and you should make it to your destination in one piece unscathed. Most of the time. 1) Safer During Daylight: This one is obvious, but traveling the train in daylight is the safest bet. Plan, if you can, to head home before it gets dark, if at all possible. 2) Travel in Pairs: Especially if you're a woman, you really should try to travel with a buddy, if at all possible. If you have to travel alone, wear sunglasses so that peeps can't see where you're looking. 3) Consider North of 635 the "Safe Zone:" While the train is in the Northern parts of the city, everything is pretty civilized and controlled. OK, the secret is out. DART kicks ass!! I'm from Los Angeles and mass transit is perhaps one of the scariest experiences in town. Therefore, I resisted using DART light rail for almost 4 years. However, one random night and a ticket to a Stars game prompted me to fork over $3 for the round trip and I have been hooked every since. You may laugh at some of the things that tickle my fancy but: 1) the train does actually show up on schedule, 2) I actually do feel relatively safe on it, 3) it's locations are generally handy, especially drop-off at the AAC. and 4) I want to drink enough one night that train usage TOTALLY make sense. Seriously, $3 for a day pass that will take me from deepest, darkest Plano to the bowels of the West End in a half-hour? How can one resist? Apparently, no one on St. Patty's Day! Anything that takes hoards of drunkards off I75 is genius. When it let's you stop at Mockingbird Station , grab a bite and a beer on the way to another Stars overtime loss, it skyrockets in value. Simple to use. Cost-effective. Clean & safe. Cheap and on schedule. Suck on that, Amtrak! If they would just build a baseball stadium downtown, we could also fully shame those Chicagoans who have flocked to Wrigley using similar transportation (and we still have another 60 years to win a World Series) read more

This is just what downtown Dallas needs! The DLink (or the 722) is a new bus line that was recently added that connects all parts of downtown, all the way over to the Jefferson street area, and all the way to the Bishops Art District as well. The best part about it....it's FREE!!! This is a brilliant idea by DART that will make people get out and about in the downtown area a lot more without worrying about traffic or parking. The stops are conveniently located throughout downtown: the Victory Park area, right by Klyde Warren Park, down Main street, Jefferson street, the Bishop Arts District, and everywhere else in between. The buses that I rode on were brand new (that's what the driver told me, and they were very clean, so I believe her!). They come by their stops about every 15 minutes or so. They start running at around lunch time and continue until about 11pm I think. Personally, my visits to Klyde Warren Park have doubled since it started. We even ventured to the BAD on the DLink, ate a nice lunch and rode back. So awesome and so convenient. This is the perfect way to help stimulate the growth of downtown Dallas. I ride DART to get to school, attend conferences, get to the fair, go to American Airlines, and meet my family members who work in Oak Cliff, so my review may be biased since I only take the Red Line and Orange Line most of the time with occasional stops at Deep Ellum and Fair Park on the Green Line. Honestly, compared to the few other cities I have ridden transit in (those would be Chicago and Washington, D.C.), these trains are CLEAN. (I will give the CTA a shout out for getting a few new trains, though, and for actually getting you anywhere you need to go on time. That system deserves 5 stars.) Also, cameras are now in the stations, and in my experience, DART cops pop up out of nowhere when someone is getting out of line. I have only seen that happen once, and I am a daily rider, not a one-time Cotton Bowl passenger. Realistically, you are more likely to get in a car accident than to get shanked on a train. You are also more likely to get attacked or sexually assaulted by someone you know than by some random person in a public place e.g. on a train, but I digress. I had to go there since the safety issue is frequently brought up. The only major problem with DART is that there are not enough trains. I think the train lines go pretty far these days (as opposed to 10 years ago), so I don't feel like distance is an issue anymore. This system is the largest light rail in America right now. However, waiting for a train at certain times of the day is annoying. On the weekend it is especially bad. Also, there have been a couple of times when the train got delayed, not due to train problems, but problems with the traffic signals. That is some scary stuff. I was ok with waiting since I would rather wait a few more minutes than someone get run over. Tips: Get a bicycle. I walk to the train station because the buses are so slow, but I am not in a hurry. If you need to be somewhere fast, your bike will probably be more effective than a bus. Bike to the station and park the bike at one of those nifty bike-covering things or bring it with you on the handicap car. Show up early. Usually everything is on time, but you can never be 100% sure. While I don't think safety is anywhere as big of an issue as it once was, have common sense about safety. Be reasonably alert (not paranoid) all the time, not just on the train or in "bad neighborhoods". I have been completely left alone by everyone except people needing directions, and I am a small woman. Then again, I am unattractive, muscular, and poor-looking. That is another tip: lift weights, quit spending money on clothes, and hit the gym. Also, be as ugly as possible. A good measure of whether anyone will bother you on transit is if anyone will bother you at Parkland Hospital. :) DO NOT eat at the McDonald's at the West End Station. They charge a dollar for water and the mcdoubles cost more than at other locations. DO stop at St. Paul and walk to the magical oasis of food trucks that is in the park over 75. Ask your school or job for a DART pass. See the DART website about how you can qualify for a half-price monthly or annual pass. Since you are probably going to be walking a lot more than a driver if you take the train, if it's cold out, dress like it is 10 degrees colder than it actually is. If it's warm out, dress like it's 10 degrees hotter than it actually is. (I know that sounds stupid, but a lot of people in Texas spend so much time inside a building or a car that they don't take little things like this into consideration.) read more

I've only ridden DART light rail on the weekends, so it very well may tinge my review. Maybe there are fewer trains. Maybe they run farther apart on the schedule. I could look it up, but meh. I still like the concept of DART and I would happily support many, many more lines. It just takes forever on the weekends. For example, for less money in tolls and gas (currently gas is $1.40 a gallon), I can just drive. For example, to go the White Rock Lake on the DART may take an hour, but only :20 in the car. But for special events at the AAC, you can't beat it. Get on the Red or Blue line, get dropped off at the front steps of the AAC, and never worry about parking. The trains are spotless and my one interaction with a DART employee was impressive: He told us the last train leaves the AAC :15 after the Stars game ends and not to miss it. I appreciated that bit in input. Tip: If you are using DART light rail for the White Rock Marathon, drive and park at the END of the line and get on the train first! They have only a few cars that early on Sunday mornings and the Red Line filled after only four stops. South of 635 no one could get on and had to figure out how to get to the AAC for the race. Um why does every Dart train smell like urine? Does one person run around peeing on all the trains or is it an epidemic . After reading the Yelp reviews we bought a $5 all day pass. We were headed to the Lawn at reunion. Our trip started at 15th street in Plano. Along the way we decided to get off the red line and hop on the green line to Deep Ellem for dinner. After dinner we continued on our adventure that's when the stench hit me. I have now ridden on three trains at this point in time and they all smell the same. It's not an overpowering odor, but it's faint and in the air. All the trains smell awful! It's the smell of urine. *Dallas Area Rapid Transit, please power wash the inside of your trains* The great thing about public transportation is it gets you were you want to go. We arrived safe and in time for the concert. The trains are super easy to navigate, but really smelly. read more

Darting to DFW from Mockingbird Station takes an hour, which is almost as long as driving. You only need a Local Pass/Fare ($2.50) if you're coming from any DART station area. (Ft. Worth and Denton would need a regional pass/fare.) I love that the train stops at terminal A, close to security. Cross over the tracks in front of the train, follow the walking path to the terminal entrance, and take the elevator up. As you can imagine, the lines at this security check point here are the shortest in the entire airport. If you don't need to check a bag, just walk by using the lane on the far right. After you get through security, turn right and follow the signs a short way to the SkyLink if you need a different terminal. Take the escalator upstairs. This monorail will zoom you to any other terminal at intervals of about two minutes. Check the illuminated red signs to see which terminals that monorail will go to. Leaving the airport via DART is not as easy. Take the Skylink to Terminal A, if needed. There are precious few obvious DART signs in the Terminal A concourse. You have to just follow the exit signs to ground transportation, currently near gate 15, I think. Once you are outside the terminal, do not cross the street. Turn to your right and look for the DART rail signs. Follow the signs to the pathway to the train. There's a ticket booth down there by the train if you need it. I only docked one star for the lack of DART train info inside the concourse. There should not only be signs, but also a schedule. You can always use the Where's My Train app, but most people, especially visitors, wouldn't know that. All of this is wheelchair friendly. There are elevators to the Skylink and ground level entries to the train. read more
