I have had breakfast at this restaraunt before and was completely satisfied. I give every place 2 tries before doing a review.....two dinner trips and two hard fails. The service was great and they were very freindly. Dinner..... needs work....I had the half rack of ribs and they tasted as if they had been around for a while.....fries ....stone cold....and again pre cooked and sat for a while. Green beans and coleslaw were the best part of the meal....hush puppies...5 out of 10. Breakfast.....yes Dinner.....hard pass

Broiled Fish, Scallops, Fried Okra, and Green Beans.

This was our first time trying Darrell's and we got our food to go. It seems to be a popular place, but was not quite for us. The food was not inedible but was very bland. All of it was quite lackluster but the scallops were good. I also expected the shrimp burger to be a patty similar to a crab cake, but instead it was individual fried shrimp on a bun. Lastly, the portion size was small for the price, in total it cost around $96.

Service was excellent, I was early for the dinner crowded, so I was seated and served promptly. Food was hot and fresh. I don't care for their bbq sauce, I prefer a mustard base over vinegar. But everything was good!

Great place to stop with a family. Hush puppies and sweat tea were great! Service was very quick, only waited about 10 minutes for our food.

Great family style restaurant. Service was good and really enjoyed the Flounder. Desert was best part. 14 layer chocolate cake.

My husband ordered the fried flounder basket with fries, slaw, and a wonderful homemade sauce. I had the shrimp and grits. They weren't the best shrimp and grits I've ever had, but they were easily in my top five. I especially liked the unique tomato sauce served along the edge of the dish for dipping. I would have preferred more grits, but there was plenty of shrimp and Tasso ham. Service was quick and friendly, the food was reasonably priced, and the views were beautiful. I would definitely return!

They take reservations and it sits on a dock with views of gorgeous yachts. Food- standard fare for the OBX. There's plenty of seafood options, and a few landlubber options. A couple of burgers were ordered, a few shrimp dishes and some fish of the day meals(Tuna). We also ordered a variety of appetizers: Homemade Chips with a chorizo queso, wings and crab dip. The oddest dish that was meh is the Shrimp & grits. It was not a fave amongst the tasters and the actual person ordering it. I ordered the shrimp with pasta. It was very similar to a more saucy Mac & cheese with big shrimp, plenty of shrimp. It also came with 2 pieces of garlic bread. The cocktails were nice. There was an oyster shooter that seemed to be popular with the birthday celebrant. The other cocktails were good. They do offer some bottle specials so we imbibed on a bottle of risata prosecco. Service- pretty good despite having to ask for lemons twice, and having to ask someone else for a soda refill. The server team worked well together.

We liked Olives so much, we dined here twice in the same week…read more I recently visited the Outer Banks for a week with my wife and we stayed in Manteo. Prior to arriving in town, I had made a reservation for dinner at Olives for later in the week. The day we arrived, after we unpacked and settled into our rental, we decided to take a walk to explore as we were staying in town. We happened to walk past Olives and decided to look at the menu - and that made us want to go there that night as we did not make any plans that evening and didn't want to get back in the car. I spoke with someone at the host stand and made a reservation for us. I figured I could cancel the reservation for later in the week after we had dinner. (Spoiler: We decided to keep the other reservation.) The food and the service were both excellent. The first night, I had the tri-tip souvlaki which was a special and my wife had the chicken souvlaki from the regular menu. We started with an order of the dolmas and they might be my new favorite. We both enjoyed our dinner and a nice booth with a view of the marina. We ordered a piece of the baklava to go. The second visit, we started with the hummus appetizer and I had the Keftedes and my wife ordered the gyro. The keftedes was so delicious with the tomato-based sauce. Luckily I had some pita to dip in that sauce. My wife enjoyed the gyro and I enjoyed the bite I got to try. The restaurant has a few greek wines on their menu but not a lot of selection. The restaurant is on the smaller side but they do have a few tables outside in the courtyard which in the nice weather is a good option and helps with capacity. I do recommend having a reservation, though. Everyone of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Topanga for giving us some great tips on places to visit in the OBX.

I left somewhat disappointed after looking forward to what I hoped would be an authentic Greek…read moredining experience. Unfortunately, the restaurant had already sold out of one of its signature dishes, moussaka, even though the owner had enthusiastically recommended it while speaking with us at our table. The suggested substitute, pastitsio, did not meet expectations. The béchamel layer was sparse and lacked the rich, creamy character that defines the dish, and the ziti pasta appeared to have been overcooked (even for a casserole) during reheating of a pre-prepared serving. One aspect of the meal left me puzzled. Why serve Greek rice alongside a dish that already contains plenty of starch? Greek cuisine offers so many wonderful vegetable accompaniments that would have provided better balance and showcased the flavors of the region, including fasolakia, briam, yemista, gigantes plaki, or kolokithakia tiganita. On the positive side, the staff remained attentive throughout our meal, kept our water glasses full, and genuinely tried to accommodate us. However, they did not seem fully familiar with which menu items were available (wait staff need to check the 86 board before and during service!). Several tables offer pleasant views overlooking the park and wharf, which adds to the atmosphere. I also would have enjoyed seeing more of the classic blue-and-white décor that evokes the charm of a seaside taverna in Greece. Overall, the restaurant has potential, but the execution of the food and the dining experience fell short of the expectations created by the menu and the recommendations.

If we'd come earlier we would have 100% been back a second time! We waited about 40 minutes for a table for 3, and just grabbed a drink for the wait and it passed quickly. I had the creamy tarragon fish with wahoo (cooked medium, sub rice for the mashed potatoes, all at the waiters suggestion) and it was SO good. The squash and pepper side was also cooked perfectly, without becoming mushy as squash tends to do when even slightly overcooked. The crab dip was also delicious with big chunks of crab; my husband and our friend also loved their meals. Service was phenomenal and price point was incredibly reasonable for the quality of the food. We tried all of the frequently recommended places for visitors this past week and I think this is the only one that has made its way onto our "must go back" list for our next trip.

We were told it was an hour wait -- we arrived at 6pm and did not sit down until 7:30. Although the wait was long, they have an outdoor bar and a pier with plenty of seating so we felt like the wait went by faster than it actually did. Once we sat down, our server was very knowledgeable. She was very busy and had a lot on her mind but still was fast and did not forget anything. The food is super good and came out very fast! And for such a fancy restaurant, everything on the menu is reasonably priced. For a steak, shrimp kabob, and two sides it was only $35! That is a steal. The food was delicious other than the steak was overcooked and poorly seasoned but we didn't mind. In conclusion, we spent a total of 3 hours here but the actual food only took about 20 minutes to come out. If you have a special event or just extra time to spare -- I would recommend!

We were very impressed! I started out with a margarita, which was very flavorful. For appetizers, we shared the pork belly and the crab dip. I love pork belly anyway, but these were so delicious I could easily eat a couple of plates of them as a meal with a side salad. For the mains, we had the tilefish with a baked potato. It was very light and flaky, and we will definitely be ordering this dish again. To finish off the meal, we had a key lime pie which was delicious. The service was fantastic. Our server, Timothy, was very friendly and spot-on with his suggestions. He was attentive and truly made our meal enjoyable. The ambiance was casual, everyone was really friendly, and we had a great time. The view of the water from our table was amazing, and as the sun was setting, it became completely epic. We arrived early, and there was already a line forming. The restaurant is much larger than I expected, with a separate bar area, a huge dining room, and beautiful views of the water. They even have a souvenir shop, which is fun to browse. This is definitely a popular, family-style Outer Banks restaurant. The staff was a highlight of our visit. Everyone was super friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout our meal. The food, however, was a little iffy for us. The menu looks extensive at first glance, but it is very seafood-heavy. We had a non-seafood eater in our group who ended up ordering a burger. I ordered the scallops and was surprised by how small they were, especially for a restaurant like this. The presentation was also very basic--the vegetables looked like they had simply been dropped onto the plate without much thought to presentation. Everything was fine, but I was expecting a little more based on the restaurant and its setting. Overall, come here for the friendly service, casual family atmosphere and beautiful waterfront views. Just don't go expecting an upscale or fancy dining experience. It's a large, busy, family-style seafood restaurant in a great location, and if that's what you're looking for, you'll probably enjoy it.
