I've been a customer of Darlings for the past 18+ years. Have bought multiple cars from Darlings during that time. I started with Jeeps at the Ellsworth branch and in 2017 leased a new Ford Escape Titanium for my wife. We absolutely love this car and its many safety and comfort features. Every time I was purchasing a vehicle through either the Ellsworth or Bangor branch, I've had nothing but excellent service. Whether it was the sales people, the management, or the people out back doing the paperwork, it's has always been a great experience. I've had our major service work done at Darlings as well. I brought my vehicle in for a recall repair. I was called and told thst the 3rd brake light was out and could they fix it. I said yes. When I picked it up the vehicle the light had not been fixed because they did not have the part. I was still charged $200 when the recall repair was free. I called to complain and was told that when the part arrives it would cost me at least $400 for the repair. This is ridiculous and I will not be going there for this repair or any other service ever again. I should have been told that it would cost $200 just to check the cause of the outage and I would have refused to have it done. read more

Monday morning, Jason was already aware of the problem with the vehicle and said it would be fit into a very busy schedule that day. Bought a late model, low mileage "Certified" vehicle, under warranty. The sales process was fine and the sales employees were pleasant and professional. However on taking delivery of the vehicle and driving out of the parking lot a serious mechanical issue occurred. This began a series of service visits I can only describe as a complete horror show of poor customer service, incompetence and clear indifference the management has toward customers once they get your money. I ended up taking the vehicle to another dealership where I received far better customer service than Darlings ever offered. We were on vacation in Bar Harbor, after towing a travel trailer 6 hours with a struggling Nissan Frontier. On a whim, went to look at trucks with more towing capacity, at the place closest to our campground, and fortunately met Josh. Easily the best, friendliest, and most knowledgeable salesperson we've ever dealt with. He worked so hard to get us into the truck we wanted ,in the very short period of time before we would be leaving to head 6 hours home. We are very happy with our lease, and if we lived closer we would recommend him to everyone we know. We may just have to take another trip to Bar Harbor in 3 years to buy from him again, I can't say enough good things about him! We have purchased 12 cars from Darlings in the past 35 years. Until recently we have been pleased with service we have received from Darlings. The latest issue is what has prompted this review. Our truck broke down, making in no longer safe to drive. I called to get it repaired and was given a date of over 2 weeks out. I understand Darlings is a busy business but is is disheartening to hear and read and hear of vacationers getting immediate service when a customer of 35 years has to wait for more than two weeks. Maybe a triage of sorts should be considered. Fortunately we found another garage to do the work. We will miss many of the employees we have dealt with over the past 35 years but will be looking elsewhere when we purchase our next vehicle. read more

My husband and I were traveling through Ellsworth on our way to Arcadia N.P., when our oil light began flashing on our camper van. Of course it was the weekend and repair shops were either closed or fully scheduled, but the Service Dept at Darling's Auto Mall agreed to squeeze us in on Saturday morning. Service manager Josh Bartlett was absolutely super! Pleasant and knowledgeable, he understood our situation and moved things around to accommodate us. We were made comfortable during our wait, with coffee, wi-fi, and a good spot to wait. They offered an inexpensive car rental, but we declined, so we could get on the road with our own vehicle asap. On Friday, June 21st, we were headed back to New Hampshire after enjoying our vacation in Bar Harbor, ME @ Blackwood campground. We heard a clicking sound in the front of the car, as the car drove at least 40 mph. We stopped at Darlings Auto Mall. To our surprise, Andy was able to help us. He was able to take a look at the vehicle and test drive it after; making sure there was no other signs of vehicle maintenance to be done on the vehicle. The customer service that Andy provided was like nothing that I've never seen!!! Yes customer service experience should be that way to what Andy expressed and showed to us and for the vehicle that was serviced!!! Very easy and low pressure buying experience. Mike Alteri was great. We were getting a new car for my fiancee and he took the time to discuss features and options with her and made her conversation the priority. Often times a sales rep will just talk to the guy and I felt like he treated my fiancee with a lot of respect. As a "car guy," I found Mike to be very knowledgeable about all three of the vehicles we test drove, which was a departure from our visit to a Bangor dealership where I knew more than the sales rep. Andy in finance took the time to make sure we got the best rates possible, which was greatly appreciated. I just had a car repair done at Darling's Auto Mall in ME. I am traveling through town on vacation and was so pleased with their top-notch customer service - From the minute I arrived I felt like they were happy to take care of me in a timely and courteous manner. My repair was completed in about half the time originally estimated; I was shuttled to a nice local restaurant for breakfast, then to the library to while away the time waiting for my car. They also did a great job of washing the dead bugs off my car with their courtesy car wash. This by far has been the best car repair experience in my many yrs of getting cars fixed. After a deer strike, 400 miles from home, we took the car to Darlings without an appointment. I parked in the lot, but was told to bring it in right away. You will do better at Darlings is an absolute true statement. I drove one and a half hours to get to the Darlings Dealership in Ellsworth to look at and possibly purchase a truck that I wanted. I called at 8:15 in the morning and spoke to Ihan (sales) and he told me about the truck on the phone and I said I will see you in an hour and a half. The truck that I wanted to test drive was in the detail area looking AWESOME! He had it showroom ready, not dirty, not half clean but DETAILED. Ihan worked with me not against me as did Andy. We went back and forth with numbers but I was never pressured to buy. The way buying a truck should be. It was such a great experience and my hat off to Ihan for doing such a great job. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I set up an appointment to get my oil changed, windshield wipers changed and my wheels aligned. I left almost 4 hrs later with only an oil change. They emptied out my oil then realized they did not have a filter and had to get it from Bangor. They told me it could be 15 minutes or 1.5 hrs. 3.5 hrs later they were finished and then told me they did not have my wipers (and did not have the forethought to get them from Bangor). I left after paying $100 for an oil change and then realized I did not get an alignment and that my check engine light was on. Pure incompetence. read more

We purchased an automobile from this dealership a couple of years ago. The sales department and service department were great. We visited the service department many times due to problems with the heater. The parts were never in stock; we had to wait days for parts to arrive. The heater problem was "repaired" only to have us return again many times with the same problem. Each repair cost us hundreds of dollars only to return again with the same problem. We will never purchase a vehicle from Darling's Auto Mall due to the service department. We will never recommend this service department to anyone read more

My Wife and I went looking at cars with no intention of buying one that day. As we drove into the parking lot we were greeted by Paris Calor. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about what they had on the lot and picked a couple of cars that he thought we would be interested in. Paris brought out a 2013 Chevy sonic. That was the car for us. Very helpful from the start. We also talked with Andy King when it was time to wrap things up. He was very polite and thorough on explaining everything we needed to sign and made sure we aware that there was things we could purchase if we wish to.
