Just four hours before the scheduled pickup time, I was notified that my order was being canceled because the oven was broken. I understand that equipment problems can happen, but this bakery specializes in sugar-free and gluten-free products, which were already difficult to find. Because of that, finding a last-minute replacement was especially challenging. As someone who bakes professionally, I would expect there to have been an indication much earlier that the order could not be completed. Smash cakes need time to cool, be assembled, and be decorated. If the oven issue prevented the cakes from being made, it seems unlikely that this wasn't known until just a few hours before pickup. Had I been notified sooner, I would have had a better chance of making alternative arrangements. Canceling such an important order with only four hours' notice left us scrambling before a major milestone event. While I sympathize with unexpected equipment failures, the lack of communication and extremely late notice made an already stressful situation much worse.
