This WAS our go-to steakhouse in the Sioux Falls area…read more And yes, I emphasize "was" sadly. Located about thirty minutes north of Sioux Falls in the small farming community of Flandreau, this little steakhouse became one of those hidden gems my husband and I found ourselves returning to whenever we had a serious craving for a good steak without dealing with the more corporate chain atmosphere back in the city. Unfortunately, the owner sold the restaurant earlier this year, and as of now no new buyer has reopened it. Which honestly makes me sad. There was something wonderfully unpretentious about this place. It was tucked quietly into a residential part of town near the local athletic fields and open farmland that stretch out with that classic small-town South Dakota feeling. You wouldn't necessarily expect one of the state's better steak experiences to be sitting there so modestly among homes and fields. But somehow, that made it feel even more authentic. The service was always warm, friendly, and deeply local in the best possible way. You never felt rushed or treated like just another table. It had that comfortable small-town hospitality where people genuinely seemed happy you came. And the steaks? Consistently very good. Were they the greatest steaks we've ever had in our lives? No. But they were reliably well-prepared, flavorful, satisfying, and honestly far better than many of the larger steak chains around Sioux Falls. The kitchen understood proper preparation and seasoning without overcomplicating things. There is a reason this place developed such a strong reputation over the years. The restaurant earned statewide recognition and frequently appeared in discussions of South Dakota's best steakhouses, drawing people from well beyond Flandreau itself. Including us. We happily made the drive many times because we knew we were likely going to leave happy. I truly hope someone eventually reopens the place and preserves what made it special. Small-town restaurants with genuine character, loyal followings, and heartfelt hospitality are becoming harder and harder to find.

There was only one waitress but she was attentive and friendly. The menu is your typical "diner" food including breakfast served all day. I got the breaded chicken sandwich which was steaming hot when it arrived. The tots were delicious and my friend enjoyed her BLT with hash browns. I also tried the 8th Ave Fav dirty soda which was refreshing. The only negative was the smoothie had chunks of ice in it. Worth the stop if you're driving through Pipestone.

I went here with my husband from being on a road trip. Went in and everyone literally just turned…read moreand looked at us, not one person acknowledged us. Which should have been our sign. We sat ourselves and a waitress named Ella came over after a few minutes and said "do you want a drink?" My husband: Do you have a Diet Coke? Ella: no My husband: ok, I suppose it's a diet coke. She looks at me never saying a word. I said I will have a coke, and Ella walks away. Again, no acknowledgment. Ella walks back to our table, again not saying a word with her writing pad and pen to take our order. So, we both ordered a burger which came with fries or potato chips, which we were never asked which one we preferred. Ella brings both orders to our table, and walks away again not saying a word. I looked at my order and it had no fries; my husband's was fine. So, I waited hoping Ella or someone would come back to let them know, but nothing. I noticed Ella hiding behind the donut counter texting on her phone. She was there a good 5 minutes, then hurried and put it in her back pocket. I showed my husband and he was like wtf?!? He walked up and let them know at the front counter that my order had no fries or chips. Eventually an older woman brought my french fries out. Ella never came back to see if everything was fine, if we needed anything. No one did. She was slowly walking around the small diner pretending to sweep. My husband had to go to the front counter yet again to get refills on our soda. The food was good, the service needs a hell of a lot of work! Not friendly at ALL!!! Or attentive. The small diner was cute and clean which is why they get 3 stars. Which this place has potential, they just need new management and training. The burger was very dry, french fry's were good but too late so I brought them as well as my burger home to my chickens.

While passing through Dell Rapids during one of our little road trip adventures, my husband and I…read morestumbled upon this restaurant and decided to stop in and give it a try. One thing that immediately caught our attention was the building itself. Dell Rapids has a great deal of historic charm, and the restaurant is housed inside one of the town's older historic structures, which gives it a lot of personality before you even sit down. The atmosphere carries some of that preserved small-town character that makes these Midwest road trip discoveries enjoyable in the first place. The presentation of the food was honestly quite beautiful. The plating was polished, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged in a way that immediately raised our expectations. The dishes looked refined and carefully constructed, almost the sort of meals that make you instinctively reach for your phone to take photos before eating. Unfortunately, the actual flavors never really lived up to the visual presentation. That was the biggest disappointment for us. While everything looked appealing, most of the dishes wound up tasting fairly flat and underwhelming. Nothing was outright terrible, but very little had the depth, seasoning, or distinctiveness we were hoping for once we actually began eating. Service throughout the meal was decent enough, though the restaurant seemed somewhat overwhelmed at the time. There was a very large and extremely loud Friday gathering taking up much of the dining room and seemingly most of the staff's attention. It also appeared they may have been somewhat understaffed that afternoon, which likely contributed to the slower pacing and divided attention. Overall, the experience landed somewhere between average and slightly disappointing for us. Not actively bad, but not especially memorable either. The historic setting and attractive presentation certainly added points, but ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed by the food itself.
